All day today I've had a pain under my big toe, right on the ball, but tonight the pain is excruciating, I can't bend my toe fully and have to hop to get around. Its really swollen and horrendous to touch? Does anyone know if its possible to break a bone Here?? I've never felt pain like it
I've added a photo to show the swelling

@FlamingoQueen

You haven’t got a hair in there have you? May sound daft, but I once cut my hubby’s hair and must have stepped on one of the floor cuttings and it got stuck in my foot. The pain was horrendous.
Same thing happened to me! It was awful, all that pain caused by a tiny little hair.
KaptainKaveman · 30/01/2022 09:11

Looks like Gout Sad

R0tational · 30/01/2022 09:22

Poor you OP! Just wanted to send my well wishes! Hope you can get childcare and go to minor injuries unit or similar x

starfishmummy · 30/01/2022 09:23

@Mammaof

I thought I was young to have gout I'm only 26 Sad
No. It was considered for DS in his teens. Fortunately not.
littlefireseverywhere · 30/01/2022 09:24

How’s the toe this morning?

SirVixofVixHall · 30/01/2022 09:29

Looks so painful OP. I hope you can get seen this morning.
My initial thought was an infection, but I have only seen gout once, years ago, when a schoolfriend’s Dad was laid up with it.

Mammaof · 30/01/2022 09:37

Just an update, thank you for the all the advice. I'm just on my way to A&E now x

good luck!

it does look very painful and swollen.

tbh if you are used to walking 10k steps or so regularly it shouldn't be an issue.

but 'marching fractures' are common in soldiers after marching exercises with heavy gear.

stairgates · 30/01/2022 09:44

Good luck. Adding a vote for gout too, my DHs started like this.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/01/2022 09:45

Good luck OP !

Downsize2021 · 30/01/2022 09:47

Get well soon, Op. I'm also someone who walks everywhere and rarely drives and when I injured my foot, it was the inconvenience that annoyed me (once I had the pain under control!) Hope all goes well.

Clarabella77 · 30/01/2022 09:48

I agree with others that it could be hour. This is similar to something that happened to me and I went to my local minor injuries thinking I had broken it without knowing.

After an x ray revealed no injury they suggested gout. I followed up with GP appointment. It eased after a few days and has never returned. It was agony at the time though so get it seen to.

sweetbellyhigh · 30/01/2022 09:50

Gee that looks very sore 😞 Glad you're en route to a&e and I sincerely hope they can help you.

Remember to raise your foot when resting, pop it on a pillow or something x

Good luck. Hope it gets sorted.

YooCoo · 30/01/2022 09:55

Good luck, OP. Hope you get seen quickly and get a not too serious diagnosis. Flowers

Handholding587 · 30/01/2022 09:56

Thanks for the update, let us know how you get on.

inheritancetrack · 30/01/2022 09:57

Good luck, interesting to see what it was. Looks to me like some kind of inflammatory reaction to the walking. Fracture unlikely but needs minor injuries.

LizzieSiddal · 30/01/2022 10:00

Glad you’re in A&E Flowers

Just an update, thank you for the all the advice. I'm just on my way to A&E now x
*@Mammaof* I hope you are there now Mamma and that you don't have too long a wait to be seen. Please let us know how it goes 💐
KitKat1985 · 30/01/2022 10:12

I'm glad you are going to A&E.

To me it sounds like either gout or a stress fracture.

LadyEloise1 · 30/01/2022 10:13

Best of luck at A&E. Thanks

JugglingJanuary · 30/01/2022 10:13

I hope they can see you reasonably quickly & get it sorted for you!

It's tough being on your own with small kids. Just in case there's a next time though, If I was your neighbour, I wouldn't mind you calling in the middle of the night to look after the kids & SO would happily drive you to A&E. Do you have decent neighbours.

Now between your camera & my phone screen they might be distorting the colour, but if your feet are as yellow as they look on my screen, you should get them checked out anyway. Speak to the Dr at A&E.

Let us know how you get on.

Mammaof · 30/01/2022 10:14

Thank you still waiting but its empty here. I only live in a small town and this is only for minor injuries so hope won't be long.
The only thing making me think its not gout is that it did settle once I rested it and now its only agony when I walk or press the ball of my foot x

Is this a mumsnet game of “guess the disease/injury” ?
Unless you are a suitably qualified medical professional who can examine and take a history from the OP you shouldn’t be diagnosing them! 🤦🏼‍♀️
