Duvet days are lazy...discuss!

I said I would kill for a pyjama day but DH says they're a waste of a day and lazy. Who is unreasonable?

At the moment DH has COVID so I'm having to do all the school runs/shopping/work etc and sleep on the sofa so I don't catch it. I'm exhausted but have to keep going. Hence saying I'd love a duvet day. But DH practically sneered at me for saying it.

@1Dandelion1

I allow myself a PJ/Duvet (aka selfcare day) day once a month, I make no plans and make sure all the house work/washing/gardening is done the day before. I love to be able the waft through the house (or in summer sit in the garden) with it tidy and clean.

In my life I have found the only people who have issues with someone taking a selfcare day is those that are either miserably comparing themselves to others or martyrs!

Dandelion, do you work FT? I'd love to have a lazy day on a Sunday. But I'm usually so tired on a FRiday that I need a lie-in on Saturday morning and by the time I've got up and put a load of washing on, had a shower etc it's lunchtime. Then after lunch I'll do bits and bobs of errands/sorting bills and food shopping, more washing on, and before I know it none of the proper cleaning is done. So that gets done mainly on Sundays.

I used to know someone who was really disciplined and did all her cleaning on Friday night so she had the weekend relatively free. But I LOVE my laid-back Friday nights at home now watching crap on the telly starting with Four in a Bed and going on MN and having a glass of wine.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/01/2022 17:30

@InFiveMins

I should add - I do everything first in the morning - prepare the evening meal, clean, do laundry etc, so that I can spend the majority of the day relaxing on the couch.
Does that mean you're up early on a Sunday, InFive? Trying to get some hints of how I can be more organised but still have chilled days at the wekeend and enough sleep.
SpinsForGin · 29/01/2022 17:30

Why is there such an obsession with being 'on the go' all the time.

Everyone time needs some down time. It's positively encouraged in this house.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 29/01/2022 17:31

Today was my duvet day. I have stayed in bed and not got dressed. I have done 3 wash loads though and made meals for DD who also had a duvet pj day.

I didn't get home from work until 3am due to hours and I wanted a day to relax. Plus our heating bill is too high so we've had to keep our heat off today and use duvets to keep warm.

TedMullins · 29/01/2022 17:32

I can’t be doing with people who can’t ever relax and do nothing. It’s an essential part of life for me and I have one at least once a week. I’ve got chronic fatigue so trying to be busy all the time makes me ill - I’ve had weeks where I’ve had plans every evening after work and invariably end up cancelling the ones towards the end of the week and having to take Friday off sick. I then sleep for 12+ hours into Saturday. Even if I wasn’t chronically fatigued, even the very thought of never getting any downtime makes me feel anxious. Your H is BU.

DrSbaitso · 29/01/2022 17:34

Isn't the whole point that they're lazy?

MrsDThomas · 29/01/2022 17:38

Horses for courses @TedMullins.

You say you cannot be doing with people who dont relax. Works both ways.

I like being on the move. You like being in bed🤷🏼‍♀️

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/01/2022 17:42

Yes, a duvet day is lazy - but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with having a lazy day! Time off from the busyness of daily life is a vital part of rest and renewal - and that can be by doing something active or creative or by doing nothing at all - we are all different, so if you need a duvet day, @MyGhastIsFlabbered, you should have one, and your do should realise that what suits him doesn’t suit you, and he should wind his neck in!

1Dandelion1 · 29/01/2022 17:42

@CurlyhairedAssassin yes i work full time with long commute. I have to plan ahead (food shopping arrives Friday night, hoover slung around Saturday evening, bathroom deep cleaned on Thursday night and freshened up before bed every night.

I could have my evenings in the week 'free' but i prioritise a weekend day, neither is wrong but for me its worth it.

gamerchick · 29/01/2022 17:45

Fuck all to do with him. Cheeky twat. Have one if you want.

SilkLabrador · 29/01/2022 17:48

I would love to but owning a range of animals sadly means it will never happen.

Bakewelltart987 · 29/01/2022 17:52

Our bodies need rest. Its not very often I have lazy days but have had 1 today needed a day to chill In front of Netflix (watching the sinner) it's been great.

nordica · 29/01/2022 18:00

I need a lazy "do nothing day" occasionally just to cope with life. I work long days and live alone so need to do all the housework alone too. I don't like to stay in bed though, and tend to get dressed in something comfortable and then catch up on TV, read, get a take away etc.

MargosKaftan · 29/01/2022 18:01

Oh god a "waste of a day" busy person.

Yes, pj days are lazy. That is the point. If hes one of those people who feels the need to be occupied and making the most of every day, then a day resting will seem "wasteful". Is he the sort who wants to draw up an itinerary for holiday days, and doesn't see the point of sitting on a sun lounger? Dh can be a bit like this, but gets that i like to do nothing sometimes. And thats as much fun as going on an energetic bike ride for him.

Hightemp · 29/01/2022 18:04

I am a great fan of having a day loafing on the sofa watching rubbish TV occasionally, but I have to be showered and dressed to feel really comfy. I really couldn’t stand being unwashed and in pjs . I was the same when my children were babies…absolutely nothing stopped me from getting showered and dressed every morning.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 29/01/2022 18:06

I have a lazy day every single Sunday, lol.

I stay in bed until around 9am, get up, make coffee and breakfast, back to bed for another hour, shower, change into clean, comfy clothes and spend the rest of the day on the sofa doing as little as possible Grin

I work outdoors all week on my feet in all weathers, Sundays are my saving grace and I'd not swap them for anything.

BitterTits · 29/01/2022 18:07

I'm basically spending my January hibernating when I'm not at work. I'm really, very tired by the weekend at the moment and have zero guilt about using it to rest. I don't think I'm lazy at all - I work very hard.

I wonder if there's a difference in perception between people who work full time in a paid job / outside the home and those who don't.

neverbeenskiing · 29/01/2022 18:38

I find people who congratulate themselves on being busy and 'productive' all the time and sneer at anyone who isn't incredibly tedious. Tell your DH to bore off and stop being so judgemental.

My job is very full on and can be emotionally draining. I also have two young children, and one isn't a fan of sleep. On the rare occasions I get time to myself I want to do is spend it rushing around.
Personally I've never been a fan of spending all day in PJ's (just makes me feel a bit meh, but each to their own) so I will always shower and get dressed. But I could then very happily spend the day curled up on the sofa listening to music, getting lost in a good book or binge-watching a TV drama, having a nap if I fancy it. How is it a waste of a day if I enjoy it and feel re-charged afterwards?

TooManyPJs · 29/01/2022 18:39

@Toddlerteaplease

Yep. Very lazy. Couldn't think of anything worse!
It's only a waste if you don't like being lazy surely.

I looooove a pyjama day, lie in and then mooching about the house, under a heated blanket with warm drinks and a film or book. One of my favourite ways to spend a day. So not a waste at all for me!

neverbeenskiing · 29/01/2022 18:39

Sorry that should say the last thing I want to do is spend it rushing around.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 29/01/2022 18:52

Well it appears my wish may well be granted...I have tested positive for COVID now.

Cherrybomb197 · 29/01/2022 19:02

Well OP. You defo need a duvet day now to recuperate. How are you feeling?

Vieve1325 · 29/01/2022 19:05

Completely acceptable.

I was up at 6am this morning, done the horses, been to spin, done some work on the farm… got home at 2pm showered and climbed into bed. Didn’t move until 6pm to answer the door for my takeaway and will be returning very soon.

Pinchofnom · 29/01/2022 19:18

Now and again I think they are amazing. DP and I had the day off together on Friday. We pottered around in the morning, went for a speedy cycle and came back, showered and snuggled up in bed and watched movies before DC came home for the entire afternoon. It really was lovely.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 29/01/2022 19:27

@Cherrybomb197 more achey than anything else at the moment. Going to eat then have a long soak in the bath I think. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
