Duvet days are lazy...discuss!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 29/01/2022 15:05

I said I would kill for a pyjama day but DH says they're a waste of a day and lazy. Who is unreasonable?

At the moment DH has COVID so I'm having to do all the school runs/shopping/work etc and sleep on the sofa so I don't catch it. I'm exhausted but have to keep going. Hence saying I'd love a duvet day. But DH practically sneered at me for saying it.

Why is needing rest lazy?

User1412 · 29/01/2022 16:30

Love a day in bed! Good to recharge the batteries

Tee20x · 29/01/2022 16:34

How can a duvet day be a waste of a day when the whole point of it is to do nothing and recoup. It's not a waste if it's salvaging your mental health and allowing you to recharge.

This exactly! It's restful.

Hate the up and active sleep police.

Sally872 · 29/01/2022 16:49

They are lazy and a luxury. Dh shouldn't expect you never to have one if you enjoy it just as you wouldn't make him have one when he would rather not.

It's a wasted day of you don't appreciate it. It's valuable downtime if you like it.

C8H10N4O2 · 29/01/2022 16:52

Ok, so maybe I phrased it wrong. It IS lazy but he was just so sneery about it. That's what got me annoyed

The whole point is that you have a day to do nothing or whatever you want when you are otherwise knackered. Is he normally such an arse?

SilverontheTree · 29/01/2022 16:53

Yes lazy but they are what January and February weekends are for!

duvetdayforeveryone · 29/01/2022 16:54

My username says it all.

Your DH sounds exhausting.

Ok. Did you mean your op to be 'is it ok for my h to sneer at something I want to do with my free time'? Answer. No.
Cherrybomb197 · 29/01/2022 17:00

Have a bloody lazy duvet day if you want one. We’re all Covid infected so a lot of times this week has been snuggling under blankets on the sofa

ChaosMoon · 29/01/2022 17:01

Everything in moderation including lazy duvet days.

Is this kind of controlling behaviour usual, or is it just because he's ill? (Which isn't an excuse but may be forgivable after stern words. And a duvet day.)

arethereanyleftatall · 29/01/2022 17:02

I recall having a complete lazy day when my dc were about 6 & 4 ish. I think I had a bit of a cold or something. Anyway, laid on the sofa in my pjs watching tv all day, dominoes for dinner. We'd normally be up and out at the zoo/the park/town/swimming/whatever. Anyway, there was no stress, no 'hurry up and get ready', no 'where are my shoes', no 'I need a wee', just no shouting/orders/stress whatsoever. Dd stills recalls how lovely it was when we all discovered doing nothing sometimes is really rather pleasant.

UmbrellasAndToadstools01 · 29/01/2022 17:02

Yes, they're lazy but we all need to be lazy sometimes to recover from all the shite this world has to throw at us... so what's your point.

MrsDThomas · 29/01/2022 17:06

Id be bored shitless.

Unless I’m ill i don’t stay in my pj. Im not a lazy person anyway. I walk every day and run 4-5 times a week. I dont like staying still

Each to their own.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/01/2022 17:06

@Morgan12

I find it so hard to have a duvet day. My mum brain doesn't allow it anymore. But I'd love one.
This sounds like a stealth martyr boast.

It's probably more likely that you're too busy, surely. When your kids get to their teenage years and get up later, are you really still going to get up and bustle round at 7.30 on a Sunday morning, because you have a "mum brain"? Confused

@CurlyhairedAssassin. Some people live getting up early. Even on the weekends im up before 7am.

Nothing to to with stealth or anything else

1Dandelion1 · 29/01/2022 17:12

I allow myself a PJ/Duvet (aka selfcare day) day once a month, I make no plans and make sure all the house work/washing/gardening is done the day before. I love to be able the waft through the house (or in summer sit in the garden) with it tidy and clean.

In my life I have found the only people who have issues with someone taking a selfcare day is those that are either miserably comparing themselves to others or martyrs!

StanleyGreen · 29/01/2022 17:19

I think you're BVU.....for demanding 'discuss'.

Yes, I understand that, but that's usually a morning or evening person sort of thing, isn't it? I know someone who loves to get up at 4.30am in the summer and go off cycling on country roads when no-one's about. But then they go to bed at like 8.30pm. Swings and roundabouts.

Isn't this thread about how you fill your time (or not) rather than what time you get up?

Liverbird77 · 29/01/2022 17:25

I would like one of it was planned in advance.
This means: shopping done, house clean, lovely fresh sheets, something great to watch on TV cued up, snacks ready, fresh pjs and kids miraculously away (3 and 18 months so will never happen!).

InFiveMins · 29/01/2022 17:25

I have a duvet day every Sunday if I can. I have a really stressful job and I like to spend it relaxing, reading, watching TV, browsing the internet. I couldn't care less if it's seen as a 'waste of a day' - it's best for my mental health.

InFiveMins · 29/01/2022 17:26

I should add - I do everything first in the morning - prepare the evening meal, clean, do laundry etc, so that I can spend the majority of the day relaxing on the couch.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 29/01/2022 17:27

Depends what's meant by duvet day
Day in actual bed or on the sofa under a duvet? Awful. Day at home chilling and not doing much? Nice.
