Just that, basically. What would get her off games for a few weeks?
@mummykel16 really how
Use threatening behaviour yourself ?
If you seriously know of a teacher bullying your report it so that its dealt with and that person no longer bulies
No, pointless arguing with people who are only interested in defending their colleagues

worriedatthemoment · 29/01/2022 00:32

@RosesAndHellebores yes you never offended anyone with your comments at all and didn't just generalise everyone

worriedatthemoment · 29/01/2022 00:33

@Maestoso I am not a teacher so het of your high horse
Your throwing accusations around which if true you should be reporting
Your basically saying all pe teachers are bullies ,

Which tells you that they are not the ones getting stick, says nothing about others, guarantee some kids are being bullied by some staff and pupils without a shadow of a doubt
No they would mention if they'd seen that.

If
That reply doesn't really mean anything. They've had a variety of PE teachers in their time at the school. Eldest started in 2015. They've never seen a PE teacher sadistically bully anyone. Both are average to poor at PE. They're in a better position to know that than you I would say.

worriedatthemoment · 29/01/2022 00:36

@mummykel16 you think it doesn't matter but it does , most children don't het anywhere near enough exercise and you learn other life skills as well potentially and maybe some kids get to try a sport they may actually be good at
Pe has changed a lot and there is often a lot more on offer than hockey/ rugby
French doesn't matter if you don't intent to use it neither does re if not religious there are loads
Do you have kids at school doing pe now ?

Giraffapuses · 29/01/2022 00:42

This thread is wild. I'd just tell the school your daughter is skipping. They can't make her do it and it's ultimately your choice. The school may whine a bit. Just ignore them.

I don't know how to answer that beyond saying I should have but because of PE and staff attitudes I don't.
School staff are no different to others in that they stick together.

Kipperandarthur · 29/01/2022 00:44

But the point here is the child isn’t being bullied or suffering with body issues and low self esteem, OP has said child doesn’t like the weather😅

We don't always notice things that are happening to others, sadly.
mummykel16 · 29/01/2022 00:47

If kids ever got asked I bet there is a high percentage that have been bullied by other pupils or staff or both.

Topseyt · 29/01/2022 00:49

I do empathise with your DD.

I hated school PE. It was a lesson in abject misery and humiliation. I couldn't wait to drop it, which I did at the age of 13 (this was the late seventies). If I had been forced to carry it on then it is the only lesson I would have truanted from, and I was not otherwise that way inclined.

I don't see any harm in saying that you would prefer her to spend her time in the library doing more useful things such as working on her other subjects. Provided that that is absolutely what she does.

I wish that could have been done for me, rather than having to endure the ritual horror and bullying that was secondary school PE.

Think you've referred to the wrong person. I'm not on a high horse and haven't said or inferred that all PE teachers are bullies.

tolerable · 29/01/2022 00:56

hahahaha! selective ciriculum!!
i favour honesty.id write requesting excused from pe replaced by permitted time libuary as ongoing sensitive issue you guaranteed her wont be discussed

Flynnqwer · 29/01/2022 00:58

I had a lovely maths teacher (who was also my Head of Year) who wrote a note getting me out of PE for the last term of Year 9. I sat in the library or an empty maths classroom unsupervised and it was bloody marvellous.

I don’t know why people are bothered about OP’s DD missing PE. She gets enough exercise so what is she actually going to miss out on? It doesn’t teach children anything.

Rollingwiththehomies · 29/01/2022 01:16

I loved P.E until I was 14 and the teacher non discreetly said I need to go and get a well fitted sports bra. The whole class heard and I was laughed at and jeered as I walked back from just doing the hurdles. Pure humiliation and I never took part again - ever! Some of the stories I hear coming from my dd’s school aren’t too far removed. I don’t think people really understand how demeaning P.E can be for some pupils.

nocoolnamesleft · 29/01/2022 01:19

I don't think anyone's saying every single PE teacher is a sadistic bully. I can only say that every PE teacher I ever met at school was a sadistic bully. That may be a statistical blip...

Or care
StopStartStop · 29/01/2022 01:23

OP, get her out of PE if you can find a way. I was about to day the teachers are sadists, but someone beat me to it.

lolololloo · 29/01/2022 01:23

Honestly, I never did PE when I went to senior school. Couldn't be bothered and it never actually did me any harm. Not overweight, still did plenty of exercise. My DD loves sport but if she didn't want to do it I wouldn't force her either. Maths, English etc are important subjects but PE can be achieved other ways such as extra curricular activities. I honestly don't think it's a big deal.

Changechangychange · 29/01/2022 01:35

@LethargicActress

You really want to be that parent?
OP is quite clearly already 100% “that parent”
Aria999 · 29/01/2022 01:41

DH as a child got out of cross country running by simply refusing to do it on the grounds that detention was preferable.

skeptile · 29/01/2022 01:46

I hated PE at school. I was much happier sitting and watching. Outside of school, I was training heavily in my individual sport and competing at state and national level. I just loathed school sport.

Marcipex · 29/01/2022 01:49

One of our pe teachers wasn’t a sadist, but she didn’t stay for very long. Others were.

I was slim and reasonably good at games until I developed a dodgy knee, but I hated the showers where we had to strip off, walking gingerly on the slimy wooden slats, and leaving our towels in the changing area.
The teacher would stand in the doorway eyeing us up, while we slid sideways past trying not to touch her.
She didn’t fancy bony little me, it was the well-developed girls she was keen on.

How we hated her. My dodgy knee came in very useful.

whatever1980 · 29/01/2022 02:22

I remember being 14 doing mixed PE and the teacher putting on coney Crawfords aerobics dvd (lots of boob shots) for us to do. Boys behind the cheerleader/gymnastic girls ogling them whilst we slightly bigger girls stood at the back in our horrific unflattering PE gear clock watching.

Cross country running, again mixed, where the boys would ogle the girls boobs.

The girls who seed to have a period every week to get out PE

The poor showers with no curtains

Put me off PE for life.

By making me attend it didn't make me fitter or get me into PE. I just stood at the back resenting the whole thing. If there was a team sport I'd purposely hit the ball to be out immediately and sit on the bench.

Teachers had no awareness at all of teenage girls.

Google an ailment any ailment and write that note

whatever1980 · 29/01/2022 02:25

Sorry for the typos

*cindy Crawford

I still remember the summer I tried to break my leg to get out of mixed PE trampolining where all the boys stood round the trampoline watching you. The fear ruined my summer.
