If he gets let off the only fair thing is that everybody who was fined gets refunded and forgiven

Absolutely
Walkaround · 30/01/2022 22:40

@Clavinova

What was he saying here?

You would have to be a bit of a twit if you thought he said drink some bleach.

😂😂Yes, obviously you would be the twit to think that. He wasn’t at all the twit to have thought of injecting or inhaling bleach. 😂😂 Tbh, I think our expectations have sunk a bit low if we effectively imply that it is OK for the leader of the Western world to be an idiot because nobody he governs could be as idiotic as he is. And, of course, our embarrassing leaders “get the big decisions right,” and also “get the big decisions wrong,” because - let’s roll a die, shall we, and see how often we think it is right?
longwayoff · 30/01/2022 22:43

A sighting of Michael Gove always makes me think that David Icke may have got at least one thing right about some people.

GreenLunchBox · 30/01/2022 22:43

@Walkaround I applaud you for your patience. Sometimes you just have to give up 😂

longwayoff · 30/01/2022 22:53

notinthestairs thanks for tip about the Dispatches programme on C4, it was comprehensive. If the Spectator has had enough of Boz then presumably he's over. But I shudder to think what they will find as a suitable replacement.

DePfeffoff · 30/01/2022 23:31

@Clavinova

Are you saying there have been 900,000 deaths in the US since Biden became President

No - but the death rate per million population was lower than the UK under Donald Trump and higher than the UK under Joe Biden.

Fortunately Trump wasn't president when Omicron hit. Just as well, really, it would have been utterly disastrous.

ClaudineClare:
The front-page story reveals that in 1996 he bought a plot of land behind his parents' house which if it were sold – with planning permission it doesn't have– could possibly be worth up to£10m*

Anyone who has watched Homes Under the Hammer will know that some developers will pay a fortune for land without planning permission, in the knowledge that if you keep appealing the planners often capitulate, especially given the political pressure to build more housing. Here, the so-called "plot" is actually 7 acres - enough to build an estate of many homes - in the stockbroker belt close to London.

I see that following the death of his parents, Keir Starmer has put the family home on the market but has retained the 7 acres.

anything to paint Starmer in a poor light regardless of whether its true or not.

Pointing out that someone is not short of money is not painting them in a poor light!

Florianus · 31/01/2022 06:50

DatFresFriedEgg:
I would suggest that most people do not have enough spare cash lying around to afford 7 acres of land in Surrey, however much it cost.
I would suggest that most people who've dragged themselves up from a fairly humble start, worked as top-flight lawyers and served as the DPP may well have 'enough spare cash lying around' to do exactly that.

Exactly. He's not like most people who are struggling to get by.

Florianus · 31/01/2022 06:53

@FatFredsFriedEgg

Isn't Starmer's rise to relative wealth, from relatively humble beginnings, something that should be celebrated, rather than criticised?

It's surely the sort of social mobility that anyone, of any political hue, should applaud.

Nobody is criticising Starmer (it's good to see the tradition here of poor English comprehension is alive and well).
longwayoff · 31/01/2022 06:54

Many people are struggling to get by but Most people are not. Yet.

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 06:58

Flo, criticizing another person's comprehension isn't really the point of this thread.
This isn't an English language exam , it is about the current Government and what happened over the lockdowns.

Florianus · 31/01/2022 07:01

FatFredsFriedEgg:
If anyone was present that wasn't 'reasonably necessary' to be there for work purposes then everyone present at the 'gathering' (on June 19 2020) was committing a criminal offence. That's what the law says.

And what the Met are facing is the probability that if they imagined things to be that simple, any FPN could be challenged in the courts by top lawyers who would point out that thanking a workforce for spending many hours beyond the call of duty is essential if management ever expect the workers to do the same again.

Who knows what a judge might decide, after the expenditure of large quantities of public money? The point is, matters are not necessarily as simple as just quoting the legislation might seem.

Comprehension is essential to the functioning of this, and any, forum. Constantly misinterpreting what others have written, whether deliberately or through lack of skill, renders a forum useless.

Well, 15 million people according to the StepChange Debt Charity.

Alexandra2001: anything to paint Starmer in a poor light regardless of whether its true or not.

Pointing out that someone is not short of money is not painting them in a poor light!

..you are only talking about Starmer and a field because it diverts from the thread title, even now suggesting he might appeal multiple times and build Starmer Heights! its a complete joke....

So perhaps going and start a new thread on Starmer and his field.

Alexandra2001 · 31/01/2022 07:15

Constantly misinterpreting what others have written, whether deliberately or through lack of skill, renders a forum useless

What wrecks a forum is posters deliberately diverting from topics they don't like onto completely unrelated ones.

Starmer came up because the thread moved onto the type of Prime Minister people thought they might or might not like.

And curiously, the matter of the 7 acres came up - without reference to the donkey sanctuary.

You do realise that there are people on here who are very well informed about Tory misinformation and can clearly see what you and Clavinova do and will shoot down the misinformation you come up with.

Because we read crap like the Daily Mail just to see the lies they feed people and then do the research to see what has really happened. The truth behind the headlines.

A simple question.

Did you know about the donkey sanctuary before you posted about the 7 acres?

cakeorwine · 31/01/2022 07:45

Would love to chat today - but I have a job to do. So will see if we get the report today.

Quite. Constant derailment and red herrings but then the posters who employ them know that.

Interesting that yet another U turn has been performed - covid vaccination won’t be mandatory for NHS staff now.

When will the u-turn on the April tax increases come?

Not only did I know about it but I mentioned that he bought it for his mother and I also know that it no longer exists - although Starmer still owns the land.

Alexandra2001 · 31/01/2022 07:54

Don't treat us like fools... what has ownership of a field got to do with someone's suitability to be PM.
