How much do you know about the 7 acres of land?

I know that I could never afford 7 acres of land in Surrey, let alone for a relative to look at.

The average house price in London is currently £629,286, but I could believe that those who want to live in a posh area might have to pay a million or more.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 30/01/2022 16:31

So, son of a nurse and a toolmaker, Starmer gained entry to a 'highly selective' (based on exam results presumably) state-funded grammar school and continued there without paying fees after it became independent in 1976.

He then seemingly did rather well for himself in the legal profession (presumably without ever getting sacked for lying) before going into politics, where he's continued to do well and avoid getting sacked for lying.

Neither Major nor Brown were dullards. The main component of being a dullard is being stupid. They were intelligent men. Maybe dull was what was meant.

merrymouse · 30/01/2022 16:32

I think its the theatricality of the job that appeals to Johnson

We already have a royal family.

His job is to lead the government.

Good point.

'Other parties went on GMB and got the Morgan treatment..'

Oh they absolutely didn't. Starmer and Angie had Morgan bumlicking and waving his sycophantic pompoms. No, they didn't have screeching over them at all.

Tbf Morgan screeches over anyone and everyone.

He's doesn't know how to listen or have a reasoned debate.

He even did it to his co workers.

The man was unravelling before our very eyes into some unhealthy place of thinking he was right and his opinion alone counted.

ClaudineClare · 30/01/2022 16:36

The Starmer and £10 million land claim is straight out of the Tory playbook and was thoroughly debunked at the time it was originally made.

The front-page story reveals that in 1996 he bought a plot of land behind his parents' house which if it were sold – with planning permission it doesn't have– could possibly be worth up to£10m

As for the £1 million London property, well that is basically a bog standard Victorian terrace in London.

1996 - that was 25 years ago. Who knows what it would have cost back then.

He is a top flight lawyer, ex DPP and 60 years old. I guess he has earned the right to get a decent house in London.

'Would you like to have a discussion about why it was appropriate for a 56year old to have a birthday party whilst denying that opportunity to millions of children?'

We had this discussion yesterday didn't we? I'll repeat myself. Say we worked in an office and had a cake and coffee for ten mins, have we been to a party? No, no we haven't.

Kids couldn't have parties because there was a pandemic and they were restricting social mixing. Whereas workplace refreshments were allowed. Things like cafeterias etc remained open.

Say you worked in and office and your wife and interior designer came in for coffee and cake.

Have you had a work meeting?

ClaudineClare · 30/01/2022 16:38

Million pound plus house in a very not posh area of London. I could post thousands of examples.

itsgettingweird · 30/01/2022 16:40

@Clavinova

Then why was his wife there? Does she work in the office? I wasn't aware of that.

Keir Starmer has already said (in an interview) that he doesn't object to spouses/partners being in the workplace - he was referring to Carrie Johnson/Symonds at the cheese and wine gathering.

I have to go now.

I don't think it was Kiers opinion they were asking Wink

And I don't agree with him either.

But souses aside what his opinion on the hired tradespeople being in the office - especially government ones?!

Has anyone got a link to the actual leglisation and regulations in force at the time?

I know that the leglisation did not specify 'an hour of exercise' or 'just once per day' when it came into force at the start. I also know that there was no law on how far you could go - no definition.

Guidance is different to leglisation - so has anyone got the link to the actual law in force at the time?

Wilkolampshade · 30/01/2022 16:47

@ClaudineClare oi oi, that's in my hood! Can confirm, 😂 not posh!

cakeorwine · 30/01/2022 16:50

Did anyone hear this morning about Johnson leaving confidential papers lying around his apartment and friends who had the keycode coming in and seeing them?

He was told to leave his work in his office - for security reasons.

Nobody is suggesting otherwise.

1 million gets you a 3 bed semi in a suburb - a nice suburb on the outskirts of SW London like Twickenham, but nothing particularly posh. As cakeorwine points out, given his age it’s a reflection of the increase in value of houses, not disposable wealth. He could sell it, but then he and his family would still need to live somewhere.

Unless the donkey sanctuary land has planning permission it won’t be particularly valuable. It’s likely that this is the reason he could buy it.

However, to be fair, I wouldn’t be surprised if he is more financially stable than Johnson.

April 2020

Starmer's home in Kentish Town, North London, is worth an estimated £1.8m. Keir and his wife Victoria, a solicitor, bought the house for £650,000 in 2004.

It was another unproven leak from Cummings. It ought to be investigated, but I don't know if it will.

Twickenham is not posh? Shock

Maybe there have been a lot of unproven leaks from Cummings that have been proven wrong.

How would DC know what is on the floor of BJs flat?

I think I recall that Teresa May refused to allow him security clearance on certain documents when he was foreign sec - he was considered a security risk
