For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:

@EcoCustard

Mauritius. It was lovely don’t get me wrong but it just didn’t hit the spot, wasn’t what I was expecting.
Same. Supposed to be a really special holiday but was just, well, OK.

Love Edinburgh and Paris though

grapewine · 27/01/2022 22:21

Amsterdam. And I didn't need a week in Vienna (both a long time ago). A weekend would have been enough.

CafeConLechePorFavor · 27/01/2022 22:21

Dubai. We visited as a last minute holiday for new year 2021 (Spain stopped allowing brits in) and because we stayed fairly far out from the 'main' attractions, I could see that actually it was still quite backward and dirty tbh.

SwishSwishBisch · 27/01/2022 22:22

@Cheshiresun you really cannot equate Marmaris, which is a crappy tourist trap, to the whole of Turkey being shit Hmm

Longdistance · 27/01/2022 22:22

Milan is a hole. I still have visions of a guy sitting on the pavement jacking up into his foot.

Istanbul. Creepy men and getting ripped off by the taxi driver.

Tunisia, food hideous and cigarette butts littered all over the sandy beach. Hygiene was not the top of their list.

underneaththeash · 27/01/2022 22:22

@Lottapianos

New York. It's a big bustling city. I live in London, so it felt a bit underwhelming
Yes. I really don't get it. Dirty and the shows aren't as good
HeronLanyon · 27/01/2022 22:22

Naples is in my top 5 - been going since 60s as a kid. Right now it feels a bit like mid 80s ish Barcelona. Perfect city to my mind. But I love in central London’s and I often think that helps with certain level of chaos and dirt.

slaybell · 27/01/2022 22:23

Dublin - boring and grey

Tunisia - I was 15 and the men were disgusting.

Notimeforaname · 27/01/2022 22:23

Giant's Causeway. All I can say is that the people of Antrim have a vivid imagination.

Ah I won't go so..🤣 I was thinking about seeing it in the flesh, I dont live too far away but I'd say its extremely underwhelming

grapewine · 27/01/2022 22:23

@Puffalicious

Belfast is a FABULOUS city: the people, the music, the pubs, the history. Amazing for a weekend trip.
Agreed!
Violetparis · 27/01/2022 22:23

Milan

endlesssighing · 27/01/2022 22:23

Barcelona.

Overpriced and I got mugged.

FelicityBob · 27/01/2022 22:24

Maldives. Didn’t feel like paradise.

BotterMon · 27/01/2022 22:24

Dubai - plastic fakery

Agree with PP - Waikiki is nasty.

San Francisco is fabulous! Best friend lives there so guess see another side than just the tourist haunts.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/01/2022 22:24

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Naples. Definitely Naples.

No way. Just no way!

I was going to start a list of places that massively exceeded expectations just to say Naples! Shock

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Oh I am glad! I was just feeling gutted as I am planning it for a trip this year. Do you have any top recommendations??

MummyPebble · 27/01/2022 22:24

Will no doubt get backlash but Cornwall. I know people obsessed with the place but to me it’s a shithole 🤷‍♀️

HundredMilesAnHour · 27/01/2022 22:24

Dublin

Sydney

Marbella

Bali

Langkawi

CrimbleCrumble1 · 27/01/2022 22:24

South Africa (specifically Capetown)...people there are unpleasant and inherently racist and elitist
Cape Town is my favourite place in the world.
Most overrated place I’ve been to is the whole Florida/Disney thing. I enjoyed our day trip to see the alligators on the airboats and the Kennedy Space Center but didn’t get the magic from the rest of it. The Harry Potter stuff was good as we went their really early one day but the rest of it was not for me.

underneaththeash · 27/01/2022 22:24

@Mamette

Niagra Falls.
Now that wasn't great either - like blackpool. But the waterfall is amazing....
jackieh1987 · 27/01/2022 22:24

Paris.
Utterly filthy, over-priced, and just a French version of Bermondsey.

LynetteScavo · 27/01/2022 22:25

@FangsForTheMemory

Gibraltar. Very polluted, hideous food, nothing to do.

Did anyone ever say Gibraltar was nice ? Grin

Youngstreet · 27/01/2022 22:25

St Lucia, beautiful but ultimately boring.
St Ives, expensive to park and just a town full of art galleries.
Dublin.

I love Paris but haven't been for about 10 years.

Was keen to visit Naples, not sure now.

echt · 27/01/2022 22:26

Bondi Beach not nice at all - Manly much better.

Port Douglas in Queensland - soulless shithole.

echt · 27/01/2022 22:26

Oh. Jamaica.

Houseplantmad · 27/01/2022 22:27

Prague - pretty dull.
San Francisco - dirty and not a nice vibe.
Gold Coast Australia - just tacky and tatty.
Cornwall - why bother when the Gower coast in Wales is so fabulous and so accessible.
