For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

@RosesAndHellebores

Oh and Santorini - thought it was dreadful.
My sister went and said it was hell. All those pretty streets looking over the water were packed shoulder to shoulder during sunset with hundreds of people all holding their phones in the air. She sent me a video of it and it totally killed the illusion of Santorini I had in my head.
Allsorts1 · 27/01/2022 23:34

Oh and agree Greek Cyprus - never going there again. Literally Irish bars along the coast - so tacky and I found there was this air of sexism - just minor things constantly that bugged me, waiters ignoring my order but listening to DP etc

Dora26 · 27/01/2022 23:35

London - dirty and unfriendly- don’t care if I never go back
Naples - a total shithole

LightDrizzle · 27/01/2022 23:35

Monaco
Cornwall
Jersey
The Uffizi
The Sistine Chapel

However I love Venice and Paris; the Musée d’Orsay is one of my favourite places in the world. It can be a bit gritty in places though so I can imagine some people having less good experiences.

I’m a bit worried about NYC. I visited back in the time of the dinosaurs and have been desperate to return but it sounds like it has really gone down hill in very recent years …

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 27/01/2022 23:36

Amsterdam- the busiest place I've ever been. Couldn't move. Claustrophobic.
Warsaw - unpleasant people
Brussels - boring

Theblacksheepandme · 27/01/2022 23:38

Paris
Morocco
Sorrento
I live in Ireland and Dublin is a shithole. The problem is when most people visit Ireland they go straight to Dublin and stay there. Unfortunately I think they may think all Ireland is like this when it really isn't.

YellowEllis · 27/01/2022 23:39

@EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad I love a beach holiday, and I've always thought no one could be bored going to the most beautiful place on earth. I didn't expect to be wrong but it was just really underwhelming and got boring really quick. It's just my opinion, the first two days I thought I was in paradise and then it just became a bit.. oh, is this it?

Scianel · 27/01/2022 23:39

@HeadNorth you've perfectly summarised my reaction to Ireland. And I just didn't get Dublin at all. It was so underwhelming. I mean compare it to Edinburgh!

Suzi888 · 27/01/2022 23:40

Dubai

Tunisia
Both unwelcoming.

AliceMcK · 27/01/2022 23:41

@Slinkymalinky03

New Zealand. Totally underwhelming.
What, the whole country? What was it that was underwhelming the abundance of beaches, food, vineyards, wine, mountains, lakes, skiing, glaciers, volcanoes, natural hot springs, geysers, mud pools, whale watching, swimming with dolphins, water falls, scenic scenery, adventure sports, culture diversity, multiple world heritage sites?
SmokeAndBone · 27/01/2022 23:42

Los Angeles - I travelled alone and felt unsafe. Awful homelessness.
Wasn't keen on Marrakech - glad to have seen it but wouldn't go back.
Loved Edinburgh, Venice.

Greenmarmalade · 27/01/2022 23:45

Dubai

littlebilliie · 27/01/2022 23:45

LA scruffy grubby city

Scianel · 27/01/2022 23:45

I know there's a lot of hate for Paris on these threads but I really really like it. I've got a theory that if you gel with a place you'll see it through a very forgiving lens and if you don't you'll view it considerably less forgivingly.

I think Dublin is probably the only tourist destination type place I've really properly not liked, but I was a little disappointed in Whitby. It was nice enough but I felt not as nice as I'd been led to think it would be?
I'm also not hugely keen on Aviemore. Beautiful area obviously but the town itself is not going to win any beauty contests.

expensiveshite · 27/01/2022 23:47

Zanzibar- Is high hopes of it as I love Indian Ocean islands and places like morocco, so I thought I'd love the combination of different cultures and the history. Instead it felt a bit predatory and our beach hotel was completely devoid of atmosphere.

Bali was horrible near Kira- busy, dirty and soulless. We moved to the north west, and while there was a lot more visible poverty, the locals were lovely and you actually got to see a bit of culture.

Firebird83 · 27/01/2022 23:48

Paris and Brussels - both felt unsafe

Bortles · 27/01/2022 23:50

Aruba. Some nice hotels and beaches but then just scrub and cactus. Nothing to really do.

DukeofEarlGrey · 27/01/2022 23:50

Gawd, New York here too. Swelteringly hot, loud, not different enough from here to make it worth it. Expensive. Not as good as my beloved London Grin

Beanybob · 27/01/2022 23:50

Padstow, Land's End and the Eden Project - at least they're 'ticked off' and I never have to go again.
Another vote for Whitby - don't know what I was expecting, just more
Rio - dear god...
Venice - argh!
Orlando - any time spent outside of the hotel or parks was utterly soul destroying

DukeofEarlGrey · 27/01/2022 23:51

Oh, and Fifth Avenue was such a let down. No shops that we don't have here.

Hairyfriend · 27/01/2022 23:52

Lands end- expensive parking, tacky theme park type rides and plastic tat for sale. It even costs to have a photo with the lands end sign now!

Bortles · 27/01/2022 23:52

And Miami. Rudest rudest people from the plane pilot onwards.

Devpatelslaughingeyes · 27/01/2022 23:53

@Campervan69

Morocco. Hated the creepy men and subjugation of the local women.
Ditto this exactly!
MogsBestestFurball · 27/01/2022 23:53

Malta was overdeveloped. I can see how it would have been so beautiful years ago before holiday resorts were allowed to take over.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 27/01/2022 23:55

‘Tenerife. Shit hole. Expensive shit hole full of shits. Most of the shits were our shits. I couldn't find and natives - they were probably in hiding (from the shits who ruined it for them.)’

Tenerife is awful. I will never set foot back there again and unfortunately some of the locals were the rudest people I’ve ever met in my life. They hate tourists and tar them all with the same brush. Horrid place.

Sydney was pretty but overrated abd the people not as friendly as Melbourne. Melbourne is a lot more laid back.

Cornwall - couldn’t understand why half the country appeared to be clamouring to go when restrictions were lifted and some of the locals were acting as if they were living in the best place on earth. It’s alright but as PP said, the Welsh coastline is lovely, accessible and locals more welcoming to tourists.
