For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

Love Mauritius but I stay with relatives not at hotels so probably different experience to most.
Barcelona I found a bit soulless but I've never been anywhere abroad I haven't enjoyed

Allaboutyou222 · 27/01/2022 23:21

@emotinium

I've never been anywhere I was really disappointed with. Maybe I'm just good at researching places before I travel or maybe I'm just not bothered by a bit of dirt or graffiti or whatever in a major city.
Exactly….what do people expect??? a Disney version of major cities where everything is clean and pristine.
Yankydoodledandy · 27/01/2022 23:22

St Ives

PermanentTemporary · 27/01/2022 23:23

Cyprus. I just felt part of the problem as it was so built up and a bit depressing. It does have incredible Roman mosaics though.

I had a dirty weekend in Winchester once. Could barely muster up enthusiasm for a proper snog. Dullsville filled with Pippas, Tors and Becs.

NamelessBaby1 · 27/01/2022 23:23

Places others have said that I agree with:
Dubai, Amsterdam, Venice (Venice itself is very cool, it's just so crowded and smelly and so overhyped it's never going to meet expectations). I'll also add Budapest which I haven't seen mentioned, although we were only there a day so probably didn't spend the time to do it justice.

Ones that have been mentioned that I disagree with: Paris (there is just so much to do and it's fab just strolling along the Riverside and whatnot); Naples (as with Paris, yes it's a bit city with normal big city issues, but the food is great, it's easy to get around, some amazing historical museums and very relaxed).

Dubai is really the only place we've ever said we would never want to go again, it's a horrible place.

AssemblySquare · 27/01/2022 23:24

Worst holiday ever - Malta
Tunisia is grim
I cannot stand London or Manchester!

Don’t understand the NYC hate… been there lots and love it!!

Tsuni · 27/01/2022 23:24

@sleaf

Disneyland Paris and its Davy Crockett Ranch. Horrible place.
That's very specific
emotinium · 27/01/2022 23:24

Lots of people always say Paris when this topic comes up but I don't really get it. If you stay centrally you can walk all around the Arc de Triomphe/Champs Elysee/criss-cross the Seine/Eiffel Tower/Louvre/Notre Dame/etc, hop a few stations on the metro if you're tired, and it's all very pleasant isn't it? At least I never felt intimidated in any of those areas or noticed it being particularly dirty or anything.

Mookie81 · 27/01/2022 23:25

@HelloFrostyMorning

Cornwall

Stonehenge

Not a place but a painting.. The Mona Lisa. A bit 'meh' and stupidly small.

Especially when the painting opposite that takes up the entire wall is so amazing!
RosesAndHellebores · 27/01/2022 23:25

Whitby I think is an utter dump full of miserable people and almost 100% boring unless you like fish&chips, kippers and dracula.
Barbados is a succession of beaches, devoid of culture and as miserable as Whitby outside the resorts.
One is all knickers and no fur coat and the other is all fur coat and no knickers although the weather would dictate it shoukd be the other way round.

YellowEllis · 27/01/2022 23:25

Maldives!

It had always been my absolute gold tier bucket list dream holiday. It was absolutely beautiful but a bit.. boring? There's only so many times a day I can have a romantic canoe or walk on the beach. I dunno, I didn't find it worth what we paid (£££££), we've done a few all incs in Dom Rep, Barbados, Mexico for a quarter of the price and had a lot more fun.

HoneyFlowers · 27/01/2022 23:26

Another place was Sweden, wow so many rude people there.

dorkfink · 27/01/2022 23:26

Edinburgh is fabulous if you know where to go to avoid tacky tourists.

Surely though you're still a tourist

SquirrelG · 27/01/2022 23:27

So agree with your view on Australia, 1980’s shopping centre sums it up.

What, the whole of the massive country ?????

Honestly, this is typical of this type of thread. It seems so many of you travel somewhere only to find people living the kind of normal life people live anywhere and then appear disappointed that the whole place isn't going all out to entertain and impress them! The poster who hated Dublin based on a few day trips and a couple of overnighters Hmm

Theblacksheepandme · 27/01/2022 23:27

HeadNorth
Ireland. I live in Scotland so our scenery is far more amazing- I couldn’t get the fuss.

Where in Ireland did you go as I live there and there are parts of Ireland that are stunning? I have been to Scotland and it is beautiful.

RedRec · 27/01/2022 23:29

Jamaica

Mo1911 · 27/01/2022 23:29

Definitely San Francisco and Paris

Oh and Stonehenge, what a waste of time!

Allsorts1 · 27/01/2022 23:30

@YellowEllis agree - not Maldives but similar vibes - I found French Polynesia - Tahiti and Mo’rea so dull. Really put me off beach holidays unless there is some night life like Ibiza/Greece.

gelatodipistacchio · 27/01/2022 23:31

Croatia (the problem may have been the weather)

Yes, I agree with this and I’m also surprised that people have mentioned Mauritius because compared to Maldives there is SO much to do! It’s a huge island compared to others, lots to see and do, mountains, a busy capital city and then miles and miles of white beaches and turquoise water.

What were you expecting the Maldives to be? If you get bored of beaches it probably was never going to be a good holiday destination for you.

i loved Moorea!

Yes, I agree, it’s one of my favourite cities,
