For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:
sleaf · 27/01/2022 23:07

Disneyland Paris and its Davy Crockett Ranch. Horrible place.

MissAmbrosia · 27/01/2022 23:08

I agree about Kavos though. It was pretty bad. But this thread is places that are overrated - I'd imagine Kavos doesn't meet that brief ,

WhatScratch · 27/01/2022 23:09

In the U.K.? The Dorset coast.

Allaboutyou222 · 27/01/2022 23:09

‘Nothing to do in Rome’,,.,,.Vatican, the forum, the coliseum, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Piazza Spagna, Palatine Hill,,,,,

loveisanopensore · 27/01/2022 23:10

I'm from Dublin and will always be sentimental about it. However it's been absolutely hollowed out in the past few years. Too many hotels being built, venues closing. It's really sad for a place with much history.

HoneyFlowers · 27/01/2022 23:10

Amsterdam was awful.

The Canary Islands were boring too.

No, that's true. I just felt like slagging off Kavos 🤣
I cant think of anywhere else

Yes. This. Two bouts of food poisoning!

Akrotiri1 · 27/01/2022 23:12

@EcoCustard

Mauritius. It was lovely don’t get me wrong but it just didn’t hit the spot, wasn’t what I was expecting.
Ditto....
RosesAndHellebores · 27/01/2022 23:14

Haven't managed the whole thread but I loved: Paris, Rome, Nice, Cannes, (Juan Le Pins betwixt) though I prefer the South West. Also love Cornwall and was blown away by Belfast.

Wouldn't bother visiting again:
Whitby
Sorrento
Marseille
LA
Barbados
Jersey

TorySteller · 27/01/2022 23:15

@lllllllllll

Also really dislike London

I don’t understand how you can dislike the whole of London. There are so many distinct parts and there’s endless stuff to do. Your loss!

You could say the same about any of the other many capital cities mentioned on this thread…
SecretKeeper1 · 27/01/2022 23:15

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Naples. Definitely Naples.

No way. Just no way!

I was going to start a list of places that massively exceeded expectations just to say Naples! Shock

I think those that slag off Naples probably arrived at the train station in the arse end of town and didnt venture much further. I was warned against going but absolutely loved it around the port and Spanish quarter.

Bali was a bit of a let down for me. Aside from Ubud I was underwhelmed, especially by the beaches. Ditto Phuket - much, much nicer areas of Thailand.

Mother87 · 27/01/2022 23:15

Dublin/Dubai/Mauritius/LA/NY

RosesAndHellebores · 27/01/2022 23:15

Oh and Santorini - thought it was dreadful.

itshappened · 27/01/2022 23:15

The Amalfi coast... full of tourists and too bloody expensive.

Doodar · 27/01/2022 23:16

Turkey, Egypt, Dubai relentless sexual harassment, Would never go with just the kids again. Very threatening sometimes.
Also ALWAYS get stomach problems.

Kitkat151 · 27/01/2022 23:16

Paris

Doodar · 27/01/2022 23:17

Lots of Caribbean Islands too, especially Barbados, had a couple of close calls there. Very threatening off the beaten track.

emotinium · 27/01/2022 23:18

@hellcatspangle

Rio de Janeiro. Grubby and unsafe. Sugarloaf mountain was a good day out but the rest of it - no thanks.
Yeah that's quite a good shout. I thought Rio was pretty meh. Not sure what the fuss is about. There are a lot of much, MUCH nicer places in Brazil.
WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 27/01/2022 23:19

Another vote for Paris. I hated it.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 27/01/2022 23:19

I was too. It was wide and deep and ...so what? The world is full of chasms and gorges in varying degrees of depth and width. I don't understand what was so special about that one.

We got a helicopter there and I was much more impressed when we flew over the Hoover Dam.

If you went my helicopter, would I be right in assuming you went to the Grand Canyon West/West Rim? If so, you didn't get to see the Grand Canyon proper, my understanding is the west rim is nowhere near as wide or deep as the parts within the Grand Canyon national park. I went to the south rim, and seeing the canyon for the first time took my breath away, I really wasn't expecting it to look like it did, I found it awesome in the true sense of the word. I thought I'd be able to stand on the edge, see down to the bottom and see the other side easily. Instead it was many miles wide, and I could just about see a small part of the colorado river right down in the bottom.

@RosesAndHellebores This list is amazingly eclectic! Whitby and Barbados! 😂

emotinium · 27/01/2022 23:20

I've never been anywhere I was really disappointed with. Maybe I'm just good at researching places before I travel or maybe I'm just not bothered by a bit of dirt or graffiti or whatever in a major city.

dorkfink · 27/01/2022 23:20

just for a day out on a plane

jeesh, mine only get to go to the park most weekends! 😆

TickleMyFanny · 27/01/2022 23:21

I love Florence and Rome

Wouldn't visit again:

Bologna, Venice or Seville
