For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:
GameofPhones · 27/01/2022 22:44

Tunisia, strewn with litter and letchy men. Sullen staff.

Cherryblossoms85 · 27/01/2022 22:44

Sharm el sheikh. Endless harassment. Never again.

NinaDefoe · 27/01/2022 22:45

Cornwall for me too I’m afraid.
We went for 3 weeks some years ago and apart from seeing one or two picturesque places it’s not great. Grey, dirty and overcrowded in the touristy areas and very downtrodden, neglected off the tourist trail.

Wouldn’t rush back.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/01/2022 22:45

New York and Sydney. Both underwhelming.
(Tokyo and Lisbon, so much better than expected, blown away by both.)

worcestersauce29 · 27/01/2022 22:45

Paris
Tunisia
I won't be back to either

Mercier1 · 27/01/2022 22:45

Belfast is NOT a shithole!

HamCob · 27/01/2022 22:45

@Gameofmoans22

Another vote for Paris. It just felt felt grubby and unsafe. Absolutely not what I was expecting!
Yep Paris Also Tunisia
TaraRhu · 27/01/2022 22:46

Toronto. Dull plastic architecture. Boring.

MissAmbrosia · 27/01/2022 22:46

I wonder what people expect when they go to these places? That they don't suffer from homelessness or grafitti or poverty as these things might offend you whilst on holiday? I've been to many of the cities mentioned and always had a fab time. You just need to do a bit research in advance.

hellcatspangle · 27/01/2022 22:46

Rio de Janeiro. Grubby and unsafe. Sugarloaf mountain was a good day out but the rest of it - no thanks.

Slinkymalinky03 · 27/01/2022 22:46

New Zealand. Totally underwhelming.

SwedishEdith · 27/01/2022 22:46

Grin @ Northampton is a bit of a dump. Has anyone anywhere ever rated Northampton?

Utterlybutterly8 · 27/01/2022 22:47

Rome. So dirty, shit food compared to other big cities

I went to Rome a couple of years ago and ate in some fabulous restaurants.

HeyDiddleDee · 27/01/2022 22:47

Las Vegas. Soulless and sleazy. I didn't think it would be my thing but it was worse than expected - thankfully only there a couple of nights before driving to much more interesting places.

Mackmama · 27/01/2022 22:47

Not a place but an experience - glamping. Not as glam as it looks, our own tent was better/cleaner and I’d rather walk to a toilet block with flushing toilets than ever go near a composting toilet again!

I find most places pretty overrated, I think maybe I just really like where I live!

mumofEandE · 27/01/2022 22:48

Edinburgh
Florence
Stockholm

Lightningrain · 27/01/2022 22:48

Another vote for Paris. It just felt a bit soulless to me and it seemed the majority of local people we conversed with were rude even though we spoke fo them in French.

Luckily I’ve not been anywhere else that I haven’t enjoyed.

Silverstreaks · 27/01/2022 22:49

Dublin.
Australian FIL really wanted to go while he was over this way. It was disappointing and ridiculously expensive and we were living in London at the time so the comparison was reasonable.

loveinthe90s · 27/01/2022 22:50

I thought Lisbon was wonderful. Such good vibes there. Also Barcelona.
Malaga is a surprisingly nice city.

I dislike Marbella although the old town is beautiful.

And I'm afraid I find the Cotswolds dull and vaguely oppressive. Muddy and twee!

AngelinaFibres · 27/01/2022 22:50

@Jimjamjong

I guess it depends on your expectations. Mine was Cambridge.
Yes. We went there for a weekend. There was litter everywhere. Not just a bit, but streets full of it. It was foul. Left after a day.
MissAmbrosia · 27/01/2022 22:51

I have to say I was not enamoured with Vienna. Lovely buildings but lacking in atmosphere. I did love the Prater though. It certainly wasn't awful but give me Munich anytime.

CrimbleCrumble1 · 27/01/2022 22:51

Interesting thread, I think I’ve been really lucky with my trips. I found Prague magical, I went for my 50th in the winter and it snowed as i walked over Charles bridge on my way to an amazing dinner. I loved Rio and Naples, the bay of Naples is one of my beautiful views.

RubyJam · 27/01/2022 22:51

Agree with Paris
Soul less , boring ,empty , pretentious

Lolamento · 27/01/2022 22:51

@Jessica60

San Francisco. A tourist was shot outside a cafe we were in. Homeless everywhere. Unfriendly people. Too many hills.
Sadly another city that went down the hill.
SummerLews · 27/01/2022 22:51

Dubai - it's basically the Docklands
