Anyone testing negative after 5 full days? -Covid

Just feeling a little dispondent. Day 8 (counting day of symptoms as zero in accordance with the guidance) and still testing positive. Any adults with symptoms who tested negative after 5 full days?

OP posts:

Mine got fainter from day 5. It was barely there on day 6, I was negative by day 7 and out of isolation on day 8. I was feeling pretty rough until day about day 5. DH is on day 4 and has been completely asymptomatic, he tested out of curiosity today and its glaringly positive still.

PoptartPoptart · 27/01/2022 12:35

Stupid question but if you are still testing positive after day 10 can you still end self isolation?

Sartre · 27/01/2022 12:37

I tested neg on day 4! Couldn’t believe it. This was before the rules changed at the start of December so I still had to isolate for 10 days. I was a largely asymptomatic case, just had burning sinuses. DD tested negative after 5-6 days.

Echobelly · 27/01/2022 12:40

Don't get too excited, just because you can be free of symptoms on Day 5 doesn't mean you will be - as I discovered. DS and I had COVID last week - but I was hopeful with Day 5 etc I'd be 'out' by the next weekend. DS didn't test clear until days 6 and 7, I didn't until days 8 and 9, and my sister has it now was still testing + yesterday on day 9.

But you are 'out' after Day 10 as long as you don't have symptoms beyond coughing and you don't have a temperature.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 27/01/2022 12:42

I did. It was days 6 & 7 then but I did one on day 5 that was negative too.

I could still barely get out of bed and am now almost 4 weeks after testing positive still really struggling but technically I could have gone out and about from day 6.

PlugUgly1980 · 27/01/2022 12:45

Both my children were negative day 5 and 6, both very mild symptoms and the second time round that they'd had it. Interestingly DH and I didn't catch it this time round either. Only 2 months ago we all had it and I tested positive for weeks after the end of my 10 day isolation.

lineandsinker · 27/01/2022 12:50

Yes, me.

Tested positive last Friday on LFT.
Tested negative last night on LFT.

Will do a repeat LFT test tonight to confirm and leave isolation tomorrow.

Though, for context: I had COVID 3 months ago which might be why I’ve cleared it so quickly. I had it very mildly this time around - sore throat and blocked nose.

whiteonesugar · 27/01/2022 12:53

@PoptartPoptart yes as long as you don’t have a fever

EatYourVegetables · 27/01/2022 12:53

No.

Took 3-4 days after symptoms to even start testing positive. Then recovered, but kept getting positives for 10 days and counting.

fizzyfood · 27/01/2022 12:56

Day 8 for me and a strong positive 🙁

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 27/01/2022 12:57

I gave up after 2 weeks. Nightmare.

Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday · 27/01/2022 12:59

Yes! Me too! I was testing negative with chills and body aches. Then after 4 days I started to feel better and then started testing positive.
Hadjab · 27/01/2022 13:32

A group of us got it at Christmas - it really varied. I was showing negative after three days, most were negative on days five and six, a couple were 10 and 15 days.

MatildaTheCat · 27/01/2022 13:37

Day mine was possibly a stronger positive than before ( always extremely definite). Day 10 it was gone so no fading away here.

merlin8878 · 27/01/2022 14:45

It was day 8 before I started testing negative. Came out of isolation 6 days ago but still not well enough to work. Currently on antibiotics and steroids.
I did have straight on top of flu though that still hadn't fully cleared after 6 weeks.
DS1 had it at the same time as me and again didn't start testing negative until day 8.
DP didn't start testing negative until day 9.
None of us had it before.
DD2 and DS2 have both tested negative from day 6. They both had it 4 months ago. Don't know if that made a difference for them.

SavageBeauty73 · 27/01/2022 14:58

I tested negative on day 5. My boyfriend is still testing positive on day 8.

TheSpanishApartment · 27/01/2022 15:46

Have had all 3 jabs. Due to have 4th next week as an immunocompromised. So that might make a difference. I’m on day 6, still have strong positive. Didn’t test positive at all until 3 days after symptoms. DD and DH have both tested positive since but with faint lines so hopeful they’ll be testing negative before 10 days. (Both finally tested positive 5-7 days after their symptoms started).

Phos · 27/01/2022 16:33

My husband did. His only symptoms were like having a cold and not a bad one at that.

purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 16:36

I don't know why people are mentioning how many vaccinations they've had as if it makes a difference to how early you test negative
I've not heard that makes a difference to if you test negative early
(And certainly not the case for me or my family either)

HoneyFlowers · 27/01/2022 16:42

I'm on day 9 for Covid, cannot get shot of symptoms and cannot get a negative LFT.

Bilingualspingual · 27/01/2022 16:44

In terms of how the virus leaves the body, it has to exit the body somehow doesn't it? Snot, wee, sweat? I'm only on day 3 but I'm drinking fluids like crazy in the hope I can flush the virus out faster - is that bad science and we just shed cells, or does it have a basis in fact? Anyone know? Also, DS day 5 today - much fainter line than originally but still there...

Bearwiththehairs · 27/01/2022 16:45

Day 10 and still testing positive. Does this mean I’m still contagious?

purpleme12 · 27/01/2022 16:46

Apparently after day 10 you're not

Daisy829 · 27/01/2022 16:48

I tested positive on lateral flow & had I confirmed by a pcr. Day 2 I tested negative on lateral flow. I definitely caught my infection on the first day as I had been testing daily due to dd & dh having covid. I’m hoping to test negative on day 5&6 (sun & mon). I’ve not tested today. I’ve no symptoms.

JelloFish · 27/01/2022 16:52

Still positive on day 8 here.
