I think it's got to be. I read he was planning to release only a portion of the report and in a few weeks. Now it appears to be maybe even today.

Theresa rather…

Hiddenmnetter · 26/01/2022 12:45

I cannot see how he can survive. The 1922 committee is already submitting letters of no confidence. Labour will leap at the chance to oust a sitting PM. Right now he’s so on the nose with the electorate for what he has done, he can’t survive. Unless most Tory MP don't really mind being out of a job come next election he will be gone. That clip put out of the fake Line of Duty interview says it all really. I cannot actually see how he can remain in his position (I was originally betting on him being gone yesterday) - and I say all this as generally a Tory voter.

TheHoptimist · 26/01/2022 12:47

@SuitcaseOfWhine

I think we will end up with Rishi Sunak if he goes and I'm not keen on some privileged millionaire running the country. It will just lead to more of the same. No change in social mobility, rich people getting even richer. I'd rather wait a month or two and have more permanent damage to their reputation.

That said if not having a leader means we don't get involved with Putin's shit at the moment I will be all for it.

Are we sure Rishi wasn't at the parties? he also lives there and it is his garden as well

If he was at a single one for even a minute then he won't become PM

Blossomtoes · 26/01/2022 12:51

My bet is that Rishi’s squeaky clean. He knows how to play a long game. He hasn’t uttered a word in defence of Johnson. He’s teetotal. Same goes for Gove - who I suspect is the brains behind all this.

Rishi strikes me as one of those types who will laugh and jolly along with the likes of Boris and will do “just enough” such that he’s not actually joining in.

But ultimately, I think he knew. He knew and did nothing.

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/01/2022 12:55

It's difficult to know how low he has to go to be finally booted out...

Iggly · 26/01/2022 12:55

@Longcovid21

Better the devil you know. There will be a much more authoritarian leader in the sidelines. Mark my words.
That’s what they want you to think.

Boris is just the same as the rest of them. He’s a Tory and any subsequent ones will be of a similar ilk. Look at what’s happening under his government.

knittingaddict · 26/01/2022 12:56

@AnotherMansCause

What report?
Seriously?
Blossomtoes · 26/01/2022 12:56

They all did. Like I said, Sunak’s playing the long game.

I suspect it’ll be used to bring the next Tory leader down closer to the next general election.

Rishi was there - which is a problem because he is the only Tory that polls higher than Boris for leadership. If Rishi's reputation is poisoned they won't challnge - because it might trigger a GE they cannot win.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/01/2022 12:59

I don't care if he goes or stays Confused

It's ALWAYS still the Tories !

We're not being offered a general election !

Douchebaggette · 26/01/2022 13:01

Sorry pp, but I think 'better the devil you know' has become the new 'we're not as shit as them'.

There is always someone worse but that's no reason to accept someone as terrible as we've got right now. For me, anyway.

ParkheadParadise · 26/01/2022 13:03

Bawbag Boris must go home every night laughing his bloody head off at what the public put up with.
If I hear the words Sue Grey again I'll bloody scream 🙉🙉

IpanemaPeaHen · 26/01/2022 13:04

The problem for the Conservatives is that they expelled any talented or reasonable mps to support Boris and his Brexit.

Now Boris’ premiership has turned to shit it’s slowing dawning on them that’s there is no viable alternative leader in the wings.

I don't know, haven't they been submitting letters of no confidence for ages now? And labour seem to be doing sweet f all, so I doubt that'll change. I think we're stuck with him for now. And agree the alternatives don't bear thinking about.
FairyLightQueen · 26/01/2022 13:05

@ToykotoLosAngeles

He'll go at the exact moment the people in charge of leaking this stuff want him to.

I suspect they've a Downing St stag and hen do to expose yet.

Who is actually leaking it? Cummings?
Douchebaggette · 26/01/2022 13:07

You've got to suspect Cummings is somewhere behind all this. Even if it's not just him...

Douchebaggette · 26/01/2022 13:09

And labour seem to be doing sweet f all, so I doubt that'll change

I'm definately no fan of this crowd, but I start to wonder what could they do. And if the 'play' isn't to stand back and let Johnson & Co hang themsleves, which is starting to look like a safe bet.

It's a long run to the next schedulled GE, so keeping out of the mess until the right time would seem like one potentially succesful strategy - if Labour don't poison their reputation in the meantime (arguably what they are doing).

genuine question btw.

OhWhyNot · 26/01/2022 13:10

Only if it’s in black and white he absolutely broke the rules

We all know he did but we all know he will lie

Otherwise no as too many senior party members are still behind him because there is no one to take his place

TheSpottedZebra · 26/01/2022 13:10

Classic Dom.

luckylavender · 26/01/2022 13:15

@AlternativePerspective

Nope. And in truth sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. The idea that e.g. Priti Patel could become the next prime minister is something I’m sure none of us wants to contemplate, but it could be a reality if he goes, and she is far worse.

But TBH I’m bored of all this now. There are far more trying issues out there such as Russia/Ukraine, they’re essentially trivialising all that by wittering on about bloody parties.

No way Patel would win a Leadership contest. And it's precisely because there is so much going on that we need a Leader we can trust. And not a lying, financially irresponsible, philandering, homophobic, racist psychopath.
hopeishere · 26/01/2022 13:17

I agree with Sue Gray being the most overused term!! Am sick of hearing her name. The report will be an anti climax.

I think Gove has issues. Hasn't been seen in a while. Lots of rumours.
