These are my symptoms. What is wrong?

For as long as I can remember, I have very little energy beyond going to work as a teacher, sorting out my two kids, house and husband and general day to day stuff. I'm sick of feeling soooo tired. My exhaustion is now affecting my kids and husband.

Symptoms include: fatigue, exhaustion, never waking up refreshed, irritable, very low mood, tearfulness, slow weight gain, brain feels heavy sometimes and cannot juggle thoughts or tasks.

I've had blood taken recently and awaiting results but I'm worried. I'm worried there'll be something majorly wrong but at the same time worried there'll be absolutely nothing physically wrong so I cannot fix it.

Please help. I just feel like crying.

@MirabelM

Still feeling so unwell. Have no energy despite 10 hours in bed asleep.
Takes 3/4 weeks to feel better with the huge doses of vit d, just remember to take a maintenance dose after the large dose.

I had this last winter, and again in the summer due to not being advised to take a maintenance dose.

Hope you feel better soon

SirVixofVixHall · 06/02/2022 20:55

Yes it takes time to feel a bit brighter.

Glad you found out what was wrong OP. I had the same symptoms. My Vit D level was at 10! My B12 was also extremely low (pernicious anemia). I’ve now got to stay on large doses of both. Look after yourself. Hope you feel better soon.

MirabelM · 06/02/2022 22:09

I just can't understand how a simple vitamin deficiency is causing so much grief. I feel so down. I have no energy.

@MirabelM

Well,turns out it's a Vitamin D deficiency. Cannot believe it's making me feel this ill Sad
Great you found out, I'd also highly recommend you take complete B vitamins from Holland & barrett they truly made a difference for me. A lot of people lack B vitamins too.
EllaB22 · 06/02/2022 22:14

Glad you found out OP and I hope you start to feel brighter soon.

Teaching is hard and tiring and almost impossible to fully switch off from. I hope everything feels more managable soon.

caringcarer · 06/02/2022 22:49

At least you now know why OP. Take the Bit D tabs and you will feel better in a couple of weeks or so.

MirabelM · 08/02/2022 16:53

Also tested as 'weak positive' for gastric parietal cell antibody.have no clue what that means. Dr has suggested a follow up appointment with a rheumatologist but I saw initial doctor privately. An appointment with the Consultant rheumatologist starts at £250!

This is a post to everyone. No matter how long it takes - please continue to stand up for your health.

If you have bloods taken (or any other tests) then ask for the results. Those results should show the guidelines. There are often times where you are JUST inside the range, but you could still be below optimal numbers.

The most important thing to know is that you are entitled to see your results. Do not let a GP send you away with “all results are normal”. You are entitled to know the numbers of your test results and, therefore, entitled to research those numbers.

A lot of women will be fobbed off with “you’re depressed, here are some tablets”. Yet many may be hypothyroid, lacking in B12, lacking in vitamin D3 etc. the best first step for advocating for your own health is to demand your test results - they are not owned by your surgery.
