Hairdresser Breakup...HELP

I need help on how to break up with my hairdresser…

I feel like each time I leave I am never really happy with my hair, it’s always ok but I never walk away with that feeling of I absolutely love my hair. I show her pictures of exactly what I like just to make sure what I’m explaining and what I hope for her to achieve line up but unfortunately I still don’t get the outcome I hoped for. It’s difficult because ive gone to her for around 8 years.I think maybe the problem is she is a mobile hairdresser and never in salon so she’s maybe not as up to date with new trends and training. I gave her one last chance this time (in my head) I was really clear and showed her pictures but didn’t get what I was looking for. I made an appointment like I always do but I know that I want to cancel.

So I guess I’m looking for advice on how to cut ties? Do I message and cancel the appointment and say I will message to reschedule but this gives me major guilt or do I say a friend has got me a voucher to try her salon she goes to? I feel like telling her upfront would really hurt her and I don’t want to do that.

Thanks in advance x

I remember angsting about this and I'd been going to mine over a decade. After I 'broke up' which was just by saying I'd rebook and didn't, I wondered why I'd waited so long. Then I got a new more expensive one who I didn't like either, when I left there she kept texting me but I said I was growing it. Now I've found one who actually listens and is ideal.

I had this - it was awkward. I just didn’t book for ages and she kept texting to ask if I wanted to book in. She was mostly mobile too. In the end I said I had decided to go to a salon as I wanted time away from home/the kids to relax. She then offered to fit me in on her one day a week at a salon - I said I would get back to her but didn’t. I got an amazing stylist and loved what the new one did.

I saw a hairdresser for ten years and was always unhappy with service but felt I couldn't break up with her, she was also a FB friend. 👀

In the end enough was enough and I just blocked her and went elsewhere! Best thing I ever did.

Now I go to a salon and at the end when they want to book another appointment I always say I never commit to the same stylist and will book in with whoever is available.

Could you maybe white lie and say a friend is starting out hairdressing and you want to support them?

Seems perfectly reasonable to me to simply say that you're going to go to a salon for a change. It's a business transaction - that's all.

@Alfixn

Omg I'm in this situation. Not very good hairdresser and actually I don't even like her that much as a person. However she works for herself and I feel bad about the idea of her losing a client/income if I left. Isn't that bonkers!!

Although I'm loving the idea of suddenly having a niece/cousin who's training to be s hairdresser... this is genius

I'm exactly the same, I feel bad for the loss of income as stupid as that sounds...but the same way I guess I'm wasting my money with something I'm not happy with. I wish I didn't care about peoples feelings as much Hmm

I'm a hairdresser who does mobile and salon, been doing it for over 30 yrs, I've got clients who I've been doing for nearly all that time but I still give them a full consultation every time I see them in case they want something different and sometimes I will suggest this. I've had clients use various reasons over the yrs for not rebooking after a long term relationship, I have also broken up with several clients over that time again using various reasons for not being available. My attitude is we are not married to each other, we see each other while it suits us both, when this is no longer the case on either side, time to move on, there will always be another stylist out there for you, just as there will be more clients out there for her to fill your space.
If you want to try a new salon but are scared of taking the plunge the best way is to go in for a blow dry first to get the feel of the salon and the staff without the commitment of a cut.
Good luck with your new hair journey.

I'm very promiscuous with hair dressers and beauticians fingers crossed I've found a hair dresser who I love and is affordable!! I'm paying so I expect a certain standard. If I'm not happy I just won't go again.

It would be better just not to rebook an appontment after next time. Or cancel with white lie ie being too busy or short of cash. Or say you want to try a salon somebody you know works in.

Mine divorced me 😩after 15 years. Also mobile.

Some spurious excuse about becoming a lady of leisure. If she cared enough about me she’d have kept on working!

I went through a promiscuous period in my life but I’ve now found another soulmate. Shes higher maintenance in that she costs me more, but our relationship is good so far.
