to call for boycott on Cadbury's Roses?

Isittimeformynapyet · 23/01/2022 02:58

I was given a box of Roses as a thank you a couple of years ago. They tasted like vomit, palm oil and sugar. An absolute waxy abomination.

I still see them stacked up in supermarkets every Christmas and wonder who the hell is buying them and how the company is getting away with it.

Please, stop buying them - they are not the same as you remember!

The best ones!

Anyone who claims Cadburys tastes of vomit is a drama queen who has never tried American chocolate, which actually does. Some sort of acid they put in it apparently.

I've been eating roses since the 90s and other than the new wrappers, which I don't like, there is no discernible difference to me.

Pikaso · 23/01/2022 08:15

Have you ever tried Hershey’s chocolate? That actually DOES taste like vomit

shedevill · 23/01/2022 08:28

Cadbury have gone significantly downhill since the takeover.

ChocolateOatly · 23/01/2022 09:15

Agreed, we were given some as a gift and I ended up taking them in to work to see if anyone wanted them. I quite like cheap chocolate but it just tastes like pure sugar and grease to me - DH isn't fussy at all and he didn't eat them either.

My favourite used to be the strawberry creme, but I can't actually taste any strawberry flavour in them anymore!

Pleaseuniverseplease · 23/01/2022 09:20

I quite fancy a box of Roses now with all this talk of them.
They're not my absolute favourite chocolates but I do quite lime them.

Taste like vomit? Grow up.
They do have that vomit edge like Hershey
fairylightsandwaxmelts · 23/01/2022 09:22

Cadbury's in general is utterly grim these days - I couldn't tell you the last time
I bought some.

Such a shame as it used to be nice chocolate at a decent price.

Taste like vomit? Grow up.
Yes. It does. To non US palates it does. Just as Hershey's dies. Because if a particular preservative used.

It isn't opinion, it is a measurable fact. Long known about, often discussed on MN.

Like asparagus or sugar puff wee it is one of those things that separates people into those who can and those who cannot smell or taste it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/01/2022 09:25

It's called butyric acid, also found in parmesan cheese and other savoury food stuffs.

Pikaso · 23/01/2022 09:27

My wee used to smell just like coffee Slimfast when I was drinking them. I swear to god I’d go for a piss at work and the whole bathroom would smell like coffee.

Sugar puffs are the same. Vile

They did a taste test. Apparently the American one doesn't contain palm oil but the UK one is still allowed to?!

I'll never buy Cadbury's again, their products taste horrible now. Really sad because they used to be a great company.

You've got to stop eating those wrappers!Grin

Strawberry and orange creams are my favourites too.

TheGoldenWolfFleece · 23/01/2022 09:31

So... Because you don't like them, everyone should stop buying them? Yeah ok then.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 23/01/2022 09:32

Taste like vomit? Grow up.
It's an actual thing - not something people need to "grow up" about.

It's to do with an ingredient used in the chocolate - it also exists in most US brands (notably Hersheys).

SummerOfComedy · 23/01/2022 09:34

We had roses at Christmas and thought they weren't as nice as what I remembered them to be.
But then last night I had some dairy milk fruit and nut and it tasted lovely.

I've noticed that the ingredients for Cadbury that says 'Dairy Milk' different from an all chocolate bar like Twirl. Not much different, but different all the same.
Maybe that's why roses don't taste the same? 🤔

Bugger, they're the best bit Grin

Palaver1 · 23/01/2022 09:37

Totally agree happy bounty some time ago spat it out don't touch any of the chocolate now.
I used to think American chocolate was bad.
With time people will get used to this awful taste .
Such a shame the company was sold you can still get originals the grandson still sell if I'm not wrong

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/01/2022 09:38

I don't need to 'boycott' them I just don't buy them, they were always disgusting.

twominutesmore · 23/01/2022 09:39

I like them. They're cheap chocolates but I still like them. They are also sold in nice big tins that I like having out for guests, putting in the staffroom etc. I don't get upset if visiting children take a big handful.

I love the strawberry and orange ones!
Mollysocks · 23/01/2022 09:42

I thought they’d been cancelled due to some political/racist issue then for a second.

Voted YABU as YABU to ask people to boycott something because you don’t like it.

Cstring · 23/01/2022 09:43

Why do they taste do different? What has palm oil replaced in the recipe?
I had some quality street and thought they were tasteless too. What is good chocolate these days?

lenorofavenor · 23/01/2022 09:45

You're more worried about the taste than the fact they use Pam oil?
