To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

It seems an odd decision to sign up for a Las Vegas residency when you don't like singing live that much and are sick with stage fright etc.

Money, and lots of it, is a great motivator.

The girl next door thing is a total act - she’s become a self obsessed diva (& has been for a good while!). They could’ve pulled together anything and I’m sure people wouldn’t have minded it not being ‘perfect’. Instead you just get a last minute crap excuse.

I think people think that things are pretty much back to 'normal' they aren't, not even close to the normal we had. Expectations haven't been adjusted and so while it's hard for those who have tickets hasn't anyone considered that this might have happened due to Covid?

What was she going to provide show-wise on top of her singing? Can't imagine dancers as they aren't really dance tunes she produces.

I personally think it does women a disservice when prominent women resort to crying to deflect criticism and turn it to sympathy (a bit drama triangley for me) I thought the same with Allegra Stratton. It’s one think to have an uncontrolled wobble in the voice (which happens to men and women at times) but the elaborate tearful videos are just for effect. Likewise Sam Smith filming one’s self crying on the doorstep in lockdown.

The PR people know it works so that is why they do it.

I went to see a band once where the lead singer got taken ill. As it was last minute the rest of the band did a "kareoke" set for all the people who turned up. Then they rescheduled.

Cancelling less than 24 hrs before, for a non emergency reason is not ok.

Why not? Especially if the alternative is to cancel every date for the next few months? Surely the hotel would prefer bums on seats, than a cancelled show.

And it isn't just "Adele fans" that would be watching with a residency, it's people who have gone to Las Vegas for a holiday and would like to see a show.

With the cost of the tickets, I doubt there are many who decide to see her as they happen to be in Vegas at the same time.

It will probably be the subject of her next song !! Embarrassing video by her, this should not have happened so close to the show start ! I feel so sorry for people who have wasted money on her overpriced tickets !

Las Vegas isn’t exactly the worst place to end up if you want entertainment on tap. I can’t believe anyone would go there from overseas just to see Adele and for no other reason whatsoever. It’s not as if she won’t ever be singing closer to home. So, sorry, but I feel less sorry for someone going there to see her sing there than the nearest big City to their home that she is singing in. And as Las Vegas itself will do nicely out of anyone visiting there, I don’t see any reason why other profit-making venues would step in and help out through the goodness of their hearts. And no, you do not go all the way to Las Vegas to watch someone sit on a bar stool.

Life is normal in Vegas, except for masks. It's not covid.

Disappointing but things happen. I hope they are able to have a nice time there and see some others shows.
Sounds like they have the means to return when the concerts begin again.

This has to have been a choice on her part I think.

I really don’t like how much she’s changed. I know once you have that money and fame it’s impossible to stay exactly as you are but there’s not even one humble bone in her body I feel.

Surely all she needs is her voice and a microphone? What does it matter if others have covid?

She could be sick, there could be any number of reasons. 99% of everything written is just spin.
It’s not like she has a high record of pulling sickies, most people in that job have to get on with the show no matter what is going on, that’s why most of them are on drugs to cope.
I think it must be horrible stressful job but I could be wrong there.

Did your parents in law travel to America just to see this show? There is lots of other things to do in Las Vegas. I’m sure they will get a refund also.

Hope they can have a nice time regardless. There is no way I would be in any way angry with her. We do not know what is going on with her.

I would have thought that you would book a holiday to Las Vegas, and incorporate going to see Adele rather than the other way around. It's way too far (from the UK) to go for one show.

There's plenty of other shows to go see and do out there and see Adele. It can't be helped at the moment.

Not really the point though is it.

People have paid thousands of pounds to fly to that place specifically for the concert. Many will have only gone there because of that one concert. They didn't fly over to go and see a different show,

People found out in their flights that the reason they were going to vegas had been cancelled. It's not like many of those people can just rearrange now.

Out of interest does anyone know how much a ticket to something like that would be?

If they can get a guided tour of Vegas it should be amazing. So not my thing but it was fab.

TBH you couldn't pay me to go to see Adele. I think her behaviour is absolutely appalling - I'm not a fan, but I know that so many people are and they will have forked out a huge amount of money to see her, money which will be now be lost.

Almost no notice given, and crying in her announcement - for goodness' sake. She needs to refund everyone who's lost money (won't happen).

Aye. That's exactly what I meant. Ridiculously over emotional. Which is why I went on to say later in the post that it was an alien concept to me and that I couldn't be arssd with her drama.

I can't think of any band or singer I would fly from the UK to Las Vegas to see and then fly back again. Especially one from the UK themselves!

She still hasn’t bothered to explain why she’s cancelled the whole thing rather than just knocking of the first couple of weekends.
