To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

@Viviennemary

Can't see the appeal of Adele. But yes she is a spoilt selfish Diva. Not a thought given to her fans. All about the most important person in her little world. Herself.
Hard to argue against that.
Lesperance · 22/01/2022 09:07

Yes, it doesn't say great things about her flexibility or work ethic. Only if she had been ill herself would this have been understandable.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2022 09:08

@MrsTrumpton

Also, let's not forget the residency is Fri and Sat night only every weekend. It's not for weeks and weeks uninterrupted. So why not cancel the first weekend and get ready for next week's instead? I just think she's got cold feet/stage fright and mentally can't do it. But if she admits that, her management will struggle to get her insurance to pay out and for her to be covered for future tours.
Yep. Covid insurance is handy get out clause isn't it?
gogohm · 22/01/2022 09:08

It's shocking, she must have known there was a problem at least 2 weeks out. I suspect there's something else the matter but she's hiding behind covid

aspectinputmenutext · 22/01/2022 09:08

Terrible conduct from Adele. I'm tired of the whining Adele show, no need for the next chapter to be aired around the world.

Apparently she suffers from dreadful stage fright which has been muted to be a factor. I read an article about it yesterday, sure it was in the Times that talked about her being a recording artist not a performing artist.

I bet it isn't rescheduled. She is flaky and I have got zero sympathy.

A580Hojas · 22/01/2022 09:09

I feel for people involved and the disappointment but am honestly astounded that anyone would fly all that way just to see Adele! I mean, come on?? And I've read some fools fans paid £30,000 a ticket. Talk about more money than sense. It's insane.

Juniper68 · 22/01/2022 09:10

@PandoraP

I would be relieved if I was going to an Adee concert and it was cancelled 😂
Me too. Does she shout Oi Oi at them?
Nitgel · 22/01/2022 09:10

Her message was like a teenager calling in sick to their Saturday job.

schnubbins · 22/01/2022 09:10

I saw Adele in concert early 2011 at a small venue( that was only half full )here in Germany .It was only her on stage sitting on a barstool with maybe four musicians . Her voice on its own filled the whole room .It was amazing .Maybe that is what she should go back to.She has been so overhyped since especially in the US.

RedToothBrush · 22/01/2022 09:10

@MarshmallowFondant

The thing is, Adele is a hugely emotional person

A bit of a drama queen, you mean?

No other arrttttiiiste has ever been as hugely emotional... Ever

Obviously.

Isn't that a trope that only get banded about regarding women, gay men and twats like Axl Rose?

Lockheart · 22/01/2022 09:10

@RedToothBrush you'll have to quote me where I said it was professional, because I must be temporarily blind and I can't see that in my post.

Of course it's not professional. But the way people are going on you'd think Adele had just said "nah, can't be arsed", completely forgetting the huge legal and financial ramifications for her, her management and label, and the hotel. They will have done everything to try and avoid this, which is probably why it was so late in the day. There will be legal contracts coming out of her ears and there will have been many, many people behind this decision, but as she's the face of the concert she was always going to be the one to have to make the announcement.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/01/2022 09:11

@MrsTrumpton

It sounds like Covid and delivery issues might be an excuse. It's now being reported there were going to be rows of empty seats where tickets hadn't been sold, especially at the front in the most expensive ones. The shows were only billed as sold out because third party sellers swooped in and bought up tickets to sell on.

It's also being suggested that her insistence everyone who came to the show had to be vaxxed and show proof of it – a negative test wasn't sufficient – had put lots of people off, hence the empty rows.

Her management weren't going to want her to play to a half-empty room…

If this is true, this is disgusting. In any case, she has enough wealth to personally reimburse every single person already arrived and anyone otherwise out of pocket.

I totally agree with you op. My first thought was of the poor buggers, who’s already arrived.

sanbeiji · 22/01/2022 09:11

lost all respect for Adele.
There’s obviously something else going on, maybe they lost money, IDK but there’s loads of things they could have done rather than cancel the show.

Her new songs are also dreadful with the samey pop chords.
She’s done…

I agree. She's good but she's not £30,000 good.
DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/01/2022 09:12

Cannot bear adeles music. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Miserable, whiney, whingey shite, but that is by the by.

I was disgusted that there will be people who have planned their holidays around this!!

Shoddy and just shows the absolute 'couldn't give a shit' attitude of people with a fuck tonne of money.

Disgusting

I cant see how this would have happened with any other singer at all. Just complete no show.

Sexnotgender · 22/01/2022 09:13

YANBU. She’s a professional musician with I’m assuming a professional crew.

They MUST have known it wasn’t going ahead earlier. It’s outrageous to cancel the day before.

AuraBora · 22/01/2022 09:13

Spot on, @Nitgel! I just watched it, urgh, totally cringeworthy and clearly a load of rubbish.. Dont mind her songs but she is super annoying!

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 09:13

She seems a million miles away from the Adele that did Carpool Karaoke with James Corden and it wasn't that long ago.

Eleganz · 22/01/2022 09:14

I suspect they will have waited until the last possible moment before most people started to travel to the show because this cancellation will be costing her and her team money.

This is pretty standard in the industry to be honest. I'm guessing they knew there was a problem a while ago, tried to solve it, failed and so cancelled 24 hours before. She is hardly the first major act to cancel a show at short notice. Singling her out as particularly unprofessional seems unfair.

She is a performer and so I have no doubt that she was genuinely upset in her video message, but I also know she is a multimillionaire pop star and her PR team will have advised she record and send out that message as a way to garner sympathy and reduce the negative backlash against the calculation.

I don't care for Adele's music, but I also don't think this sort of thing is particularly remarkable in showbiz either.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 22/01/2022 09:14

I was disgusted that there will be people who have planned their holidays around this!!

By this ^ I mean I feel sorry for people who have paid for their holidays to go and hear the misbag sing.

What legal ramifications?
The tickets are refundable.
She should have insurance to cover contingencies like this.

Why could she not have done a pared down version of the concert?

FromEden · 22/01/2022 09:16

It's shit but that's covid for you.

It's not covid. She's full of shit and only an idiot would believe that rubbish excuse. Vegas is business as usual, there are tons of shows running as normal. Katy perry, with an elaborate stage show, can manage it, why can't Adele? We all know she won't be doing anything beyond standing on a stage singing and no one expects her too
