To think Adele’s been shockingly unprofessional?

Adele was due to start a Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace this weekend and cancelled the entire thing less than 24 hours ahead of time, saying they weren’t ready for a number of different reasons.

FIL had bought tickets to the opening night for himself and MIL as a 40th wedding anniversary present, they had pretty much just checked into their hotel when she announced it wasn’t going ahead, and the cost of that and their flights is now money down the drain. DH and I and BIL and SIL were planning on taking them away for a family weekend at Easter but have instead offered to pay for travel and accommodation when (if?) it gets rescheduled.

I get that covid is fucking a lot of things up for a lot of people, but surely they could have faced reality a bit sooner? Even one more day’s notice would have saved so many people taking flights and checking into hotel rooms that they could have rebooked or been refunded for.

The main issue for me is why cancel all shows? This residency is until April. I can understand maybe the first few weeks, but not the whole thing. Makes no sense

I would imagine she’ll incur some costs - that depends on the contract though. She has no legal obligation to pay for peoples travel and accommodation of course.

The only plausible reasons I can think of are; Adele is broken (physically or mentally) or there is an active police investigation going on.
Why else would you invalidate insurance by stating your show ain't ready?

it'll be a huge financial liability. You can't just cancel stuff like this at the drop of a hat, there are contracts with get-out clauses for things like illness, bereavement, and extreme weather.

I assume that nobody was daft enough to travel to Vegas purely to see her in concert (there is so much to do in Vegas and the surrounding areas)

I know know she is pretty reviled on here, and yes a 24 hour cancellation is great or particularly professional but surely people on Vegas with tickets to see her, can find something else to do? They aren't going to fly straight home?

She isn’t even really crying in the apology video - there are no tears in her eyes or on her face. She’s rich enough not to have to do anything if it becomes hard work. So maybe she just couldn’t be bothered when she realised what a hard slog it was going to be and/or anxiety for the better of her. Low ticket sales could compound that and her thinking why would I bother.

What insurance has been invalidated? Have you seen her contracts and insurance details?

I cannot get over how successful this women is. She's a glorified pub snger!! She's whiney and self pitying and has a staggering lack of self awareness.

You don't need to have seen her contract. Some people here work in the industry and know how it works. And it stands to reason that Vegas venues are going to cover their bases legally.

I think even worse is Harry Styles, to keep people waiting for 2 years, and then switch to stadiums and less dates and think fans getting presale first will make up for that. I'd be annoyed if was going.

I'm wondering how that will work. DD is desperate for me to get her tickets (she became a fan in 2020 and didn't have tickets for the previous tour) but I'm not sure what my chances are if (and rightly so) previous ticket holders for 8 concerts get priority booking for 3 concerts? Will there even be enough tickets to accommodate the previous ticket holders

The only thing (and was pondering this with DD this morning) I can think of is that if the venues themselves are booked up several years in advance for other tours, which takes priority - the rescheduled tour or the original booking?

Beyond annoyed as Harry himself has known since at least November (he told a fan at a concert.) so his team must have know longer. It’s also unfair on fans who will be awaiting that refund to buy new tickets but not enough time for most to be refunded before new ones go on sale. Just poor in my opinion.

I am also no longer able to take my daughter to any of the new dates and she’s too young for a stadium concert and venues are too far away or mid week and I can’t have time off with my job.

Previous ticket holders get access to their two closest venues. Well that’s what mine says but assume some like us will be unable to use them. Pre. Sale for prev ticket holders is 9am Monday. General sale is Friday I believe.

Sad for your FIL and MIL. I think you should reach out to her personally. I know she can’t help everyone, but I think they deserve something from her.

The concerts are to tie in with her comeback album. It wouldn’t have the same impact if the concerts where at a later date

I find the constant crying videos nauseating but she lives in LA now where this is seen as being brave

Shes really just devastated that she won't be getting her 500k a show. I found the message of her blubbering and repeating herself more unprofessional that cancelling at short notice.

She's awful! Bought into her own hype. I don't even like her songs. All depressing and exactly the same.

I don't see how the pandemic can be blamed for this. Perhaps some of her team do have Covid, but that doesn't mean she needed to cancel the entire residency.

It's possible the real reason isn't something she is ready to disclose.

Many many many reasons.

For many performers, their fans are important enough that the show goes on or else they don’t try to overbook themselves so they aren’t well enough to perform (like happened with Adele’s shows a few years ago).

She would be boo'ed off in a pub. That dreary whiney voice. Awful. Still goes with her I suppose.
