Why do all the ensuite haters on here have husbands/partners who only shit while their wife or partner are in bed?

User387598621 · 22/01/2022 21:49

DH is usually banished to the toilet at the back of the house for his daily shit, , there is no way he would use an en-suite or the bathroom for that matter, only if he was ill in bed.

I'm in two minds. I've lived in a couple of two bedroom flats that had an en suite and it seemed kind of pointless. The bathroom wasn't that far away. And I had two bathrooms to clean which wasn't enjoyable. I'd rather the space had been used for storage.
I wouldn't mind one now I'm in a house and have kids though.

fuckyourpronouns · 22/01/2022 21:58

I don't like them when they're tiny and uncomfortable to use. The smallest showers in the world and no window.

We have one plus a second bathroom the same size upstairs which serves the other 2 bedrooms.

The trick to making sure they work is then being a decent size, comfortable to use and with a really good quiet extractor fan. Ours was expensive but it's virtually silent and is great at extraction. The room is never steamed up even after a really long hot shower. A bathroom cabinet with under cabinet lighting is a great way of having light that isn't super bright in the middle of the night

RampantIvy · 22/01/2022 22:05

Why do you need the light on to have a wee in the middle of the night?

PugInTheHouse · 22/01/2022 22:10

I don't really understand the point, would rather have a couple of family bathrooms.

We only have 1 tiny bathroom and a toilet downstairs for 4 of us. Never had an issue re showers etc, we had the toilet put in downstairs when the kids were little and that makes a big difference. I have 2 boys though so I suspect I would be thinking differently if I had teenage girls lol.

ErinAoife · 22/01/2022 22:33

I love mine, my little personal space that only I use so it is not destroy by the kids.

5128gap · 22/01/2022 22:41

I like mine because:
I can get showered and dressed without leaving my room. I often have guests and don't care for meeting DPs brother, adults DSs mates, or my friends H on the landing in my dressing gown.
The 'work triangle' of sink, dressing table and wardrobe in easy reach makes getting ready more efficient.
Because its off my bedroom, no one comes into it, so I don't need to stash private/ personal stuff away and can leave it untidy if I'm in a rush without inconveniencing anyone else.

DH hated en-suites until we moved into our home. It has a massive window, a lovely deep bath, rainfall shower and doesn’t compromise on the space of the room.

I love my en-suite because I don’t have to leave my bedroom in the middle of the night to wee, guests can’t nose through my toiletry cupboard while they are staying over, it’s my private space. I can see why people might hate those tiny, windowless en-suites though

When we had four teens in the house my ensuite was nothing to do with snobbery and everything to do with sanctuary.

I don't understand the snobbery angle - when do you casually drop into conversation that you have an ensuite? and surely no one visits your ensuite except for dh and the plumber. I can think of easier ways to flex. Grin
UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/01/2022 10:50

C8H10N4O2 and lagerandcigars I think you've misunderstood the snobbery angle! Its the other way around! Disliking ensuites is being described as snobbery, because ensuites are associated with newly slightly better off people (upper working or lower middle class or new money, lottery winners 😜🤣 ), new builds etc. while older properties, which are prefered by the middle-middle above classes in the UK, would simply have a big family bathroom or multiple bathrooms but not ensuite ones, (adding an ensuite would usually be unsatisfactory because the layout of older properties doesn't usually allow for a well ventilated, good sized ensuite unless you sacrifice a bedroom).

shinynewapple22 · 23/01/2022 11:26

Our bathroom and toilet are both downstairs - I would love an en-suite - or just a regular bathroom upstairs would be nice !

C8H10N4O2 · 23/01/2022 12:31

Oh very possibly. I've only lived in older houses so proportions may be the issue.

Mind you, with a house full of teens it's impossible to have too many bathrooms and I'd have appreciated my bathroom even if it were shoe box sized Grin
