Just curious 🤨

I love mine - have lived in houses with and without and will never go without one again.
I think some people may have ones that are shoved in a corner of the bedroom with no windows etc. Ours is a proper room with a big window. It's nowhere near the bed as it's through the dressing room. No noise or anything else.
En suites give you private space and having one in the guest room, gives your visitors private space.
If I could afford it I'd have one with every bedroom.

Never heard of en suite dislike until Mumsnet and never heard of anybody choosing to book a hotel room that didn't have on.

@limitedperiodonly

They like to brag that they only have one bathroom in their 900-year-old cottage/rectory/converted windmill and have to flush the toilet with a bucket of water because it was once used by Charles the 1st and is grade 2 listed.

@5128gap do you know many people like that?

Well obviously I'm exaggerating a bit. But yes, I've met a few. They generally pop up when someone is talking about living in a new build to tell them how convenient that must be compared to living in a property so unique, special and important they really see themselves as its custodian rather than its owner.

It's interesting to read the review for those sani-flow poo munching toilets. I've seen ads for them on TV but was very suspicious as to why I'd never heard of them before.

PigletJohn · 21/01/2022 20:11

Architects are notorious for designing ugly houses, but living in old ones.

StoneofDestiny · 21/01/2022 20:13

We had one I hated it. I don't want to hear exh using the toilet or smelling it. Vile

Who are all these noisy smelly husbands? Maybe they need dietary advice? If they were like that - would you rather they smelled out the family bathroom and made so much noise they disturbed the family and guests.
How does anybody use the family bathroom after they have stenched it out anyway?

I have one. Its fine for wees. Very handy and can cope with the occasional small light poo, but its certainly not suitable as a primary, everyday pooing toilet.
StoneofDestiny · 21/01/2022 20:28

New builds are tiny because developers want the highest possible margins, that's just a fact

Some are, not all.
I really depends on your price point and your area

Gingersay · 21/01/2022 20:56

Our house is 7 years old so newish build the ensuite is what sold us the house, off the bedroom we have a corridor with wardrobes on both sides the a massive ensuite with a proper window, it's so big we turned a part of it into a laundry room and it's still huge, my favourite room in the house.

limitedperiodonly · 21/01/2022 21:34

@5128gap you know a few people who live in a 900-year-old house and prefer a bucket to a flush toilet? I think you're exaggerating more than a bit there.

getsanta · 21/01/2022 21:42

Nothing more relaxing than pooing in my quiet, private, out of the way en suite.

limitedperiodonly · 21/01/2022 21:45

@5128gap I don't wish to be indelicate but I can't be the only lady who's sat down for the occasional small light poo only to produce something unexpectedly monstrous.

A very fair point, and well made. Perhaps those with functions of a less predictable and more robust persuasion might be better to served by a traditional toilet.

limitedperiodonly · 21/01/2022 22:14

I always expect so.

It’s called humour, exaggerated anecdotes for a bit of amusement, amazed you can’t see that.

I too find it odd that smelly poos are only done by men, according to MN, whereas my grandaughters can make your eyes water. The other day I'd 'been' in the downstairs loo, the window was open and a couple of minutes later the postman came, I'm sure he wrinkled his nose!

JudgeJ · 21/01/2022 23:20

In terms of shoe-horning things into small spaces I find utility rooms which are simply a corner of the kitchen with a stud wall round it a waste of space.

Grasping · 21/01/2022 23:29

After extensive research 🧐 😉

I have ascertained that the en-suite haters have either:
A) inconsiderate partners (LTB)
B) tiny en-suites that shouldn’t be there
C) massive chips on their shoulders

Rosemarypots · 21/01/2022 23:30

I went to view a lovely Victorian house where the en suite was big, had its own window and was at the end of a 20 feet long bedroom. That was a good set up.

Whereas we saw another house where the en-suite was small, windowless and was at the end of a ten feet long bedroom, and the en suite door almost touched the bottom of the bed when open. That wasn't great.

Or D) we just don't like them because everyone is different! 🤷🏼‍♀️
Blossomtoes · 21/01/2022 23:47

Or we prefer our second bathroom detached from our bedroom 🤷‍♀️

I haven’t heard that word since my dad died. Thank you for taking me back in time ☺️
BritWifeInUSA · 22/01/2022 00:35

I love ours. It’s big and spacious. It has a double height ceiling with a huge skylight. We live in the middle of nowhere with no light pollution. I love looking up at the stars and moonlight from the bath.

I just wonder how all those who claim to dislike them so much cope in a hotel room? Our bedroom/dressing room/ensure bathroom is bigger than the average hotel room. I don’t hear anything when my husband is in ours unless he puts the music full blast.

LondonQueen · 22/01/2022 00:36

I love mine but mumsnet seems to think they're disgusting!
