To think this couple's attitude has no place in modern society?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10419543/Christian-couple-ban-gay-man-partner-buying-dream-650-000-sexuality.html

A church-going wife who banned a gay man and his ITV producer partner from buying her £650,000 Surrey home has hit back in the row and insisted they are just sticking to their beliefs.

Luke Whitehouse and Lachlan Mantell were stunned when they were told that they could not buy the three-bedroom home because the Christian owners didn't want to sell to 'two men in a partnership.'

Honestly, they should be ashamed of that text. I hope no estate agent will work with them ever again.

I wonder if the couple have ever had mortgage.

Money lenders VVVV not liked Jesus.

Imagine usual pick n mix.

Mortgage fine. Homosexuals NO.

that stuff.

user97533676 · 21/01/2022 03:53

@llanfair11

If only we regulated estate agents so they were obliged not to accept those who do not want to sell to people on the grounds of what is termed a protected characteristic in the 2010 Equalities Act.

I thought we'd moved away from 'no dogs, no blacks, no Irish'.

Whilst unacceptable it's not akin to disallowing black people into an establishment.
CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 03:57

Given the situation rental market where it's not ok to discriminate,

But landlords don't want black person, agents say fine and don't show those to black people.

That's a bigger priority at mo.

There's plenty more houses out there for couple.

I have a feeling the couple said here look Bible. Might be facing a few repercussions though. I hope so anyway.

She's really dropped herself in it with work.

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 04:03

Don't be silly user.

Law aside for the moment.

Just basic humanity.

How is turning someone away because of who they love, different from turning someone away because of the colour of their skin?

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 04:04

What happened to Jesus teachings with these sort people?

' If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.'

1 Corinthians 13

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 04:14

Romans bit they cited.

How many onboard around men having sex with women, being described as the 'natural use' of women?

'26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.'

King James version as specified.

Not allowing someone to purchase a house due to their sexual preference is not the same as not allowing someone into an establishment due to the colour of their skin.

For starters, a black person cannot cover up their race.

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 05:11

You think that people in same sex relationships should lie so as not to get told no can't buy house, no can't come in pub because gay?

The second illegal of course, going to establishment.

The first, they could have said no easily without being complete dicks about it.

Question though.

No you can't hide skin colour, I mean jacko to, and sure skin lightening products etc. That aside.

How black is too black? I mean this was a USA big deal wasn't it.

How Asian is too Asian?

What about those with southern Europe colouring? Dark hair olive skin etc?

Thoughts on those who are wearing kippah?

Veils, what if white though?

Interested tbh. Surely lot of complexity for racist to wade through.

What, in the end, are you on about?

Innocenta · 21/01/2022 05:21

@user97533676 You show an alarming determination to justify homophobia.

loislovesstewie · 21/01/2022 05:33

My DH died on Sunday, I want to say to this obnoxious couple that there isn't enough love in the world. To deny 2 adult people the opportunity to love one another is NOT Christian. 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone'

Innocenta · 21/01/2022 05:38

@SantaClawsServiette It's not a failure to "Act like a grown up" to be distressed or angered by homophobia, and to want to respond to it actively. The very fact that you're this willing to dismiss it in such terms is disturbing.

@BoredZelda You're disturbingly willing to tolerate discrimination against gay men and lesbians. Giving lip service to it not being what you really think actually doesn't mean anything to us, you know. I notice that you use exactly the same tired homophobic trope that others on this thread have been using - claiming that gay and lesbian posters don't understand / are stupid / can't read / can't grasp matters. You couldn't be more wrong; indeed, it is you who comes to this with not only a shallow mindset but a failure of empathy. I would encourage you to meditate on what it's like to experience homophobia, but I fear such exhortations would be useless.

@WindInTheWillows7 So do you think society should tolerate the implementation of such views? What about, say, an attempt to reintroduce legal slavery? For any disturbing view, you can find someone who sincerely holds it. Society rightly limits how people can act on their views.

Where have I justified it sorry?

user97533676 · 21/01/2022 06:16

You think that people in same sex relationships should lie so as not to get told no can't buy house, no can't come in pub because gay?

Where did I say they should?

What, in the end, are you on about?

I'm not too sure what you're on about. I've tried to read your posts but I'm none the wiser.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 21/01/2022 06:19

They're building a masjid now down the road from me. Would this couple happily sell their house for the same purpose, since the buyers would likely share the same amazing views on homosexuality?

MummyWoodentop · 21/01/2022 06:23

I think people should be more realistic and accept that there are many people in the UK with different religious beliefs to them.
As far as I know the Muslim religion doesn't acknowledge homosexuality either.
We are not clones.
This is very sad but just because you believe something doesn't mean everyone else does the same - we're a big world.
Abortion is another difficult issue but you cannot deny other's choice of beliefs.

Innocenta · 21/01/2022 06:29

@MummyWoodentop Please don't defend these bigots. People can have different beliefs, but they have engaged in hateful and discriminatory actions, which is not the same at all.

There are gay and lesbian people reading this thread and seeing your attempts to defend this behaviour.

MummyWoodentop · 21/01/2022 06:32

This is where I disagree with others. There are bigots in the world who will behave in a discriminatory way - the attitude to women for example.
I'm being realistic.

Omicrone · 21/01/2022 07:04

I think this needed to be called out, and the homophobic couple needed and deserved to be publicly shamed and held up to public ridicule.

Why? How is that in the public interest and what would that achieve?

Omicrone · 21/01/2022 07:08

So you believe that the radical Jihadi Islam that ISIS practice should be tolerated and that we should allow those who wish to follow it here in the UK to do so freely? An extreme example I grant you but what about those who wish to follow Salafism or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ideologies? Is it OK for them or is freedom of religous expression only ok for Christians?

Erm, I don't know the ins and outs but don't ISIS types think that gay people should be stoned to death etc? It's hardly comparable? This couple did not incite hatred or violence, they just did not want a gay couple in their home. Totally weird and messed up, but not really comparable to ISIS.

Confrontayshunme · 21/01/2022 07:11

As a Christian myself, if I knew these people, I would tell them they are the worst. What even does not selling them a house achieve spiritually, if that is why they are doing it?!

@user97533676 You show an alarming determination to justify homophobia.'

'Where have I justified it sorry?'

Well right here-

'
For starters, a black person cannot cover up their race.'

Keep it hidden is certainly a homophobic attitude.

Keep it hidden if you don't want to have negative thoughts happen due to being gay is a step worse as well.

They have a choice. If choose to not hide it. Well then. Up to them.

Really lovely view.

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 07:19

If the Christian couple had restrained from detailing why these men were sinners according to their beliefs.

Then they wouldn't be getting criticism.

Cuts both ways surely.

And I'd say that responding initially oh two men buying house. Sorry offer off market for a bit.

Is way way easier than concealing your sexuality as a matter of course your whole life.

user97533676 · 21/01/2022 07:21

As a bisexual black woman can you please highlight where I said they should keep their sexual preference hidden?

loislovesstewie · 21/01/2022 07:24

Perhaps they should ask potential purchasers about their sexual preferences/practices in general? As far as I am aware the Bible says no to masturbation, having sex during menstruation and for a time afterwards, and of course fornication.
Whatever they believe there will be another person, more extreme, who will tell them that what they do is not what god wants them to do, so how do they feel about that? Frankly I am always surprised that some Christians are obsessed with where people put their genitals.
