www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10419543/Christian-couple-ban-gay-man-partner-buying-dream-650-000-sexuality.html

A church-going wife who banned a gay man and his ITV producer partner from buying her £650,000 Surrey home has hit back in the row and insisted they are just sticking to their beliefs.

Luke Whitehouse and Lachlan Mantell were stunned when they were told that they could not buy the three-bedroom home because the Christian owners didn't want to sell to 'two men in a partnership.'

Honestly, they should be ashamed of that text. I hope no estate agent will work with them ever again.

I'd love it if, when this bigoted pair put an offer in somewhere, they're rejected for having such hateful views. As for the other couple, it makes me so sad that two consenting adults in a loving relationship are treated this way, simply because they're the same sex.

Tempusfudgeit · 20/01/2022 19:19

When the sellers said they couldn't do viewing on Sundays as it is 'the Lord's day', it was a pretty big clue they might not be open to these particular sellers.

Absolutely ridiculous and should be illegal

As a Christian, I am embarrassed they claim to be Angry

ItsSnowJokes · 20/01/2022 19:22

These people sicken me. Absolutely sicken me. Not very Christian, what happened to love thy neighbour huh?

They deserve to not be able to sell their house at all. All local estate agents should refuse to work with them (I doubt it will happen though as most are so money hungry). The gay couple involved should seek legal advice as surely this is against the law?

mjf981 · 20/01/2022 19:23

I love how they bring out the bible verses. What do they think this will acheive? Do they think ‘the gays’ will see the light and be converted? 😂

viques · 20/01/2022 19:24

I wonder if their consciences would spring into action if their next dream house turns out to be currently owned by a gay couple, or (eeeek) wiccans. Would they be able to live there or would they have to have a full on exorcism to rid the place of its evil. And how would they deal with giving their honestly earned Christian money to fund some evil gay couples future and improved life style?

(I am secretly hoping that their next house turns out to have been built over a plague pit, or a gateway to hell, or something else unsavoury.)

nitsandwormsdodger · 20/01/2022 19:24

I’d love it if they found a sneaky way of buying it and then fuck on every surface in the house , even the shed - and send the homophones graphic photo of willie wanging

userxx · 20/01/2022 19:25

Yeah, not exactly coming across as Christian's are they. Blaming their backward homophobic views on religion is pretty poor and an embarrassment to true Christian's. Twats.

Thirtytimesround · 20/01/2022 19:27

Obviously the homophobia is upsetting.

But crying on the phone to his mum, then selling the story to the Daily Mail, including photos of the house owner?! What. A. Whiner.

3scape · 20/01/2022 19:28

How does this go against their beliefs that still (presumably) allow them to borrow money? Does noone ever counter quote these idiots from their own book of contradictions. (Eg there's some stuff from Paul about abiding by the laws of the land. The law recognises same sex marriage, unlike these opinionated twosome)

user1471505494 · 20/01/2022 19:29

@Artichokeleaves

Well obviously they do have a place in modern society, they're living in it and it's ridiculous to pretend that society doesn't include people with these beliefs. It does. Those beliefs don't get changed by tutting and reporting to the police for wrong think, that just makes the divide of belief harder and them angrier. Having beliefs you may not agree with is not a crime.

If you discover that your seller is prejudiced and has incompatible views and doesn't want to sell to you - you shrug and go buy from someone else, because life is too short. You might think your seller is an unpleasant twit: that's not against the law. This whole punish and silence the wrongthinkers and be prejudiced against them really doesn't help anyone or solve anything. It's just prejudice in a different form.

I'm LGBT btw.

What a sensible comment
ConsuelaHammock · 20/01/2022 19:32

Meh ! People can sell their house to whoever they want. I don’t agree with their views but lots of people will agree with them. We cannot police anyone’s own belief system.

llanfair11 · 20/01/2022 19:34

I'm a bit surprised the Paper that Supported the Blackshirts carried the story though.

tkwal · 20/01/2022 19:36

Strange Christians. I thought they would have believed that God created ALL of us in His image, and that we should Judge not lest ye(we) be judged. Or how about removing the log from our own eye before attempting to remove a speck from someone else's?I could go on but I'm sure you get the gist...

nancy75 · 20/01/2022 19:36

In the position if the gay couple I’d be very tempted to buy the house next door & make it the campest house the world has ever seen.

I hope the miserable religious fuckers get stuck in the house forever

TooWicked · 20/01/2022 19:36

Homophobia is still rife.

But… It’s a sellers market in my area and I’ve no doubt some other estate agents will snap them up - they’ll just charge a higher commission and maybe ask for payment upfront whether they get a sale or no sale. I doubt it’ll put other buyers off purchasing their house either.

CamomileTeabag · 20/01/2022 19:38

It's disgusting. If they want to retain control over who lives in the house or what happens to it, then don't sell it.

Kanaloa · 20/01/2022 19:38

To be honest I’d rather know somebody had those beliefs, rather than someone who sneers at people but is happy to take their money. I wouldn’t want to be giving them my money.

As a woman married to a man with kids I wouldn’t give them my money! So I’d be glad to know they held those beliefs. In a way I think it’s great when racists/homophobes/misogynists are this open, at least it makes them easy to avoid.

BlissfullyIgnorant · 20/01/2022 19:39

I think the bigots have dramatically reduced their house value with this. They're going to have to try and sell without an agent I suspect as nobody will want to be tied to a bad reputation. Much worse, though, is they've devalued their neighbours' properties because who wants to live next to self-righteous wankers (his work van, btw, carries the name of a building firm which went under in 2011).

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 20/01/2022 19:39

As usual Artichoke you've articulate a thought that was only half formed in my head. Whilst i completely abhor the views of this couple I think we need to be able to tolerate people with opinions that are different from our own. These people haven't killed anyone, they've acted in line with their own beliefs in a way that is not criminal. It's shit but there it is. Some people have views that other people find abhorrent. Reacting in the same manner just perpetuates polarisation.

BiscuitLover3678 · 20/01/2022 19:42

Absolutely pathetic. They clearly aren’t serious about selling anyway.
They’ve dodged a bullet tbh. Imagine if they accepted but then the couple planted things in their home or kept coming back to try and convert them or something.

MissConductUS · 20/01/2022 19:44

I guess they missed the part in the bible about loving thy neighbor.

5128gap · 20/01/2022 19:45

@Thirtytimesround

Which part of the crying to his mum are you sneering at him for? Talking to his mum about a deeply shocking demonstration of hatred from a stranger, or that the this made him cry? And why not take his story to the papers? Why should he be silent about it? Its in the public interest to know that such people exist, as unless they're directly affected most people don't realise the discrimination others face.

Not everyone who is a committed Christian is homophobic.
