Threatened with losing my job

Finallylostit · 19/01/2022 22:49

Yesterday, I got a letter and a delightful email in my work email telling me I am going to lose my job unless I get vaccinated.

Yes I work for the NHS.

This is insulting and rude when those in power think to threaten people without getting their data /facts correct.

May 2020 - I received my first vaccine as part of the first vaccine trial in the world. By the end of June 2020 I had my second dose. In June 2021 - I had a new trial booster.

Problem is if you had your vaccine as part of the trials that helped move the world back to normal - then the systems do not recognise it as being had. The NHS app will give me a covid pass and says i have had it but it is not considered the real thing that everyone else got after being tried on people like me.

I have to email my proof to them to prove ~I have had it. 3 emails later and I have had to send in passport details, vaccine trial details, this detail that detail etc etc.

Today 'i got invited to a meeting with my manager to discuss the implications of my refusenik beliefs and to inform me that as of April 1st I will not be employed by the NHS. That said person could not see how frustrating it is for someone who has been vaccinated all along but systems do not recognise it and still asked me for proof - just pushed me over the edge today.

Whilst I appreciate this is adminstritative it really is insulting that they can not get this right. I and many of my NHS colleagues volunteered blindly into a trial not knowing what the hell would happen to help the world.

our thanks for helping move the world on - threatened with the sack. Thoroughly pissed off Vax volunteer.

So it certainly seems like a cock up within the NHS but having worked with them as a supplier for many many years on IT systems this doesnt surprise me. They were an disgrace to work with (I can say this now I have left previous company!).

Little cottage industries trying to justify their roles, mismanagement of budgets, trying to hang onto old systems even though they were not fit for purpose just because the staff were used to them. I could go on and on and on and I would be fuming if I got this sort of email - but not surprised.

Not having the jab and expecting to keep your front line job. Now that is a different issue....

Franklin12 · 20/01/2022 10:33

I have my tin hat ready on this one but I honestly would not want to give the NHS anymore money until THEY sort themselves out and stop running the trusts as fiffdoms! There was no joined up thinking within trusts, no shared learning just a massive waste of money.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 20/01/2022 10:41

I honestly would not want to give the NHS anymore money until THEY sort themselves out

Who is THEY

The govenerment? The nurses? The cleaners? The surgeons?

FannyCann · 20/01/2022 10:42

Why not leave it and wait till they send you a letter giving you notice then consult your lawyer.
I very rarely approve of suing the NHS but in your case I'd be so cross.
If you have legal cover on your home insurance give them a ring. They usually have 24/7 helplines.
Let them sack you having got their facts wrong. Who'll have the last laugh.

ldontWanna · 20/01/2022 10:42

@BigYellowHat

YABU. They think you haven’t had it and have made a cock up. No-one’s died. Get over it 🤷‍♀️
She's trying to. They're not letting her by requesting meetings and evidence again and again.
vickyc90 · 20/01/2022 10:43

Husband is in the same boat but HR sorted it when he replied with all the details after the first email.

Franklin12 · 20/01/2022 10:48

So when I say they..

The NHS Trusts are run by CEO's on huge salaries. We are paying for that experience and talent. They are running companies yet I worked across numerous health authorities and honestly what hits the media is nothing like the worst of it.

No, its not necessarily the government. I have a view we have now come to a position where we need to look at a co payment system. It will help refocus both the NHS and the public I think. There is a reason why we are often seen as the mugs of Europe for offering it all for free at the point of use.

BungleandGeorge · 20/01/2022 10:52

How awful, it’s ok being flippant but being threatened with instant dismissal is no laughing matter.
Lots of criticism of the NHS but ultimately where does everyone think the funding, manpower, paper work, procedures for doing this are coming from? This is not an NHS initiative, it comes from central government and how much support do you think has been made available? At a time with vastly increased demand on health services and lots of staff off sick and isolating. Who thought this was a good idea??

Tilltheend99 · 20/01/2022 10:53

Sounds like an unusual situation but can you be sure you didn’t receive a placebo as part of the trial? If the current version of the jab is more effective than wouldn’t you be doing a good thing for your personal health to get it again? Genuinely interested.

Unsure33 · 20/01/2022 10:54

For those up in arms your quote is not correct. At the time of the decision the figures quite clearly showed that there was a considerable smaller risk of passing the virus on if you were vaccinated .

It’s all about the numbers . Not individual cases .

So of course some vaccinated people catch it/ pass it on/ end up in hospital . But is a vastly reduced percentage than the unvaccinated.

Now the only thing is that this is before omricon was prevalent so perhaps this changes things ( pandemics are not predictable)

But the rest of us have also done our duty by having the vaccines so either this will go ahead or there will be a reconsideration now that covid passes are to be scrapped.

This is a moving target and at the time of this mandate protection of patients and staff was surely a priority.

MsFannySqueers · 20/01/2022 10:55

OP I am sorry this is happening to you. I hope the ridiculous position you find yourself in is soon resolved. I also think bullying people with the threat of losing their jobs if they don’t get vaccinated is vile. I say that as someone who has had three jabs. As if the NHS can afford to lose 90k staff! Forgive me for going slightly off topic but I also want to thank @JugglingJanuary. I have read several threads this morning and your contributions to them have been kind and thoughtful.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 20/01/2022 11:03

So you’d like your organisation to be able to read your mind? You know you’re not on NIVS (the system with vaxx info your organisation can legally access) and your manager cannot see your medical record so you can avoid letters by speaking with hr preemptively rather than getting all up in arms.

Nurses and doctors already have mandated vaccines as terms of their registration so it’s just adding a new vaccine to that list during a pandemic. Not really a big ask.

vivainsomnia · 20/01/2022 11:09

An admin error that threatens her with getting the sack! I'd say that is pretty dramatic, and the drama has all been created by her employer (the NHS) not checking facts
This is standard letter to say OP was at risk. It was always obvious that it wasn't going to be the case in OP' situation. OP says it herself.

Frustration with admin is part of life in many domain. I agree, this is about of an overdramatic response.

kgov1 · 20/01/2022 11:14

If you are part of a union, I would get advice from them. Make sure you keep an audit trail of all correspondence where you've repeatedly provided proof of vaccination too.

If they do terminate your employment, they would not have a leg to stand on.

Forrandomposts · 20/01/2022 11:15

@JuergenSchwarzwald and @girlmom21

I know, that's why I said "as an aside".

Rainbowshit · 20/01/2022 11:19

this is ridiculous. Honestly i would try and get this in the press.

Dh was also on a vaccine trial and has ended up getting a second lot of "approved" vaccines and a booster. Not happy about it particularly as it could have put his health at risk.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/01/2022 11:20

This is appalling OP. I'm so sorry for you.

Derbee · 20/01/2022 11:24

@FreedomFaith

Wtf? That doesn't make any sense.

I'd be telling them to correct themselves and if they didn't, I'd go to the papers. That is utter bullshit. You've had the 3 vaccines are they that stupid they've forgotten how to count?

I don’t think “going to the papers” over an admin error at work is going to do the OP’s reputation or career much good.

It’s annoying OP, but I’m sure it’ll be sorted out

Tallisimo · 20/01/2022 11:42

I’m on a trial and my NHS shows me as being fully vaccinated. Just have a word with your trial team, the should be able to sort this,

Thoosa · 20/01/2022 11:42

Thank you so much for being a willing guinea pig for us all.

Your HR department should be ashamed of themselves.

StarFlowers

foxychox · 20/01/2022 11:43

Just appalling of them not to accept this. Where would we be without the trial participants, they should be falling over themselves to thank you not give you this shit.

Hagpie · 20/01/2022 11:43

I am personally moved by your bravery and I am so sorry that this has happened to you.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 20/01/2022 11:44

This thread is nuts. The organisation legally cannot access her medical record outside the official vaccine. She needs an OFFICIAL exception letter that you can only get any calling 119. They pull evidence together and liaise with your gp. The onus is on the employee to get that document so just call and get it ASAP. Until you have that you’ll get letters. HR should advise you of this so the only admin error is there although you’re capable of reading the info - it came out last Friday with clear flow charts.

UnconditionalSurrender · 20/01/2022 11:58

For people saying this is an admin error, this issue has been ongoing for ages when people were trying to go on holiday. In Scotland they have made sure that those with trial vaccine have the same vaccine status as the rest. In other places it obvs still isn't happening which is outrageous when the government are bumming and blowing about the whole vaccine thing- those people who helped make it happen are being threatened with the sack.

WindInTheWillows7 · 20/01/2022 12:01

This is a classic symptom of our overly bureaucratic health service
