Threatened with losing my job

205 replies

Finallylostit · 19/01/2022 22:49

Yesterday, I got a letter and a delightful email in my work email telling me I am going to lose my job unless I get vaccinated.

Yes I work for the NHS.

This is insulting and rude when those in power think to threaten people without getting their data /facts correct.

May 2020 - I received my first vaccine as part of the first vaccine trial in the world. By the end of June 2020 I had my second dose. In June 2021 - I had a new trial booster.

Problem is if you had your vaccine as part of the trials that helped move the world back to normal - then the systems do not recognise it as being had. The NHS app will give me a covid pass and says i have had it but it is not considered the real thing that everyone else got after being tried on people like me.

I have to email my proof to them to prove ~I have had it. 3 emails later and I have had to send in passport details, vaccine trial details, this detail that detail etc etc.

Today 'i got invited to a meeting with my manager to discuss the implications of my refusenik beliefs and to inform me that as of April 1st I will not be employed by the NHS. That said person could not see how frustrating it is for someone who has been vaccinated all along but systems do not recognise it and still asked me for proof - just pushed me over the edge today.

Whilst I appreciate this is adminstritative it really is insulting that they can not get this right. I and many of my NHS colleagues volunteered blindly into a trial not knowing what the hell would happen to help the world.

our thanks for helping move the world on - threatened with the sack. Thoroughly pissed off Vax volunteer.

If your trial was double blind is there a chance they know you have recieved a placebo/control and you don't? !

Lemons1571 · 20/01/2022 07:15

It is insulting. How would they move to formal proceedings? Surely this means escalating to the legal teams, who hopefully would have a bit more intelligence.

Would be quite something to be in court for unfair dismissal- because you hadn’t had the vaccines…oh, actually, you had….ooops….

NHS admin is more than 15 years behind the times - maybe 50?!!

Bizawit · 20/01/2022 07:15
**@Theballoonsinthesky* People should get the vaccine to protect themselves not others as it doesn't work for that.*
Not relevant to this thread, but you really aren’t the brightest are you?
A) If you are vaccinated you are much less less to contract covid in the first place therefore much less likely to pass it on to others.
B) the immune compromised rely on others having the vaccine to protect them. That exactly how it works.
But the latest data doesn’t support this theory empirically. Especially when it comes to omicron, vaccination appears to have very little benefit in terms of reducing chances of infection.

FreedomFaith · 20/01/2022 08:34

Wtf? That doesn't make any sense.

I'd be telling them to correct themselves and if they didn't, I'd go to the papers. That is utter bullshit. You've had the 3 vaccines are they that stupid they've forgotten how to count?

Woodlandarchitect · 20/01/2022 08:39

It’ll be sorted soon, I’m sure

Thanks for being part of the vaccine trail Smile

Woodlandarchitect · 20/01/2022 08:39

Trial*

EatYourVegetables · 20/01/2022 08:44

It’s awful that you have to deal with this. Flowers Brew

Thank you for participating in the trials - you’re a hero. Star

And for all the PPs replying without reading the thread or even the opening post - here’s a Biscuit, you annoying illiterate time wasters.

Fairyliz · 20/01/2022 08:55

I expect all of the admin team are wfh. It’s the usual excuse you get from any organisation when they cock things up.

Longingforatikihut · 20/01/2022 08:55

Whilst it's not affected me, similar admin issues have affected 2 of my colleagues who's vaccine info have been put into other people's details. One because she has a common name, the others have been added to her twin sisters file. They've been jabbed and won't lose their jobs but they're stressed as their records are not correct and HR keep flagging them for meetings like OP has had.

HarrietteNightingale · 20/01/2022 09:06

Maybe try reading the thread before you stick the boot in.

They clearly haven't even read the op properly!

Prescottdanni123 · 20/01/2022 09:07

So sorry that this is happening to you, and thank you for everything that you have done to help bring about a vaccine.

Forrandomposts · 20/01/2022 09:13

As an aside, won't your booster have worn off by now?

girlmom21 · 20/01/2022 09:14

@Forrandomposts

There's nothing in the rules to say you have to have additional boosters
JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/01/2022 09:20

@FreedomFaith

I think I would be getting to the point where I was using exactly that language!

I have had three vaccines on

date A
date B
date c

The proof is attached (for the xth time).

I am concerned that NHS employees appear to be unable to count to three.

Please confirm by return that you will be taking no further action in this matter. If I do not hear from you with this confirmation by x date I will be taking legal advice.

I would be going mad OP! Copy in HR. I presume you have done that already but maybe cc in the head of your hospital/facility.

Ultimately you might need a solicitor's letter to make them see sense. Or go to the press. This isn't confidential and they need to get their arses into gear.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/01/2022 09:21

@Forrandomposts

People only get one booster - how is that comment relevant.
Ahalam · 20/01/2022 09:21

Thank you for helping get vaccines to the rest of us.

Norgie · 20/01/2022 09:23

Firstly, thank you for participating in the trials, which has benefited millions.
Have you got your union involved, if you're a member of one? Or escalated it to HR?
Could you involve ACAS?
Keep a written record of every spoken conversation you have regarding the matter too, who you spoke to, what was said, time and date.
Just how do they think the NHS will function when they get rid of all these staff? They keep saying how understaffed they are, yet they want to get rid of staff at the same time, it doesn't make sense to me.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/01/2022 09:24

PS you might want to mention the GDPR as well. It is a legal requirement to ensure that the data you hold is ACCURATE.

Clearly they are not updating the information as they should. You could also threaten a report to the ICO (it doesn't deal with individual cases but it will investigate if there is more of this going on in the NHS).

britneyisfree · 20/01/2022 09:25

@3scape

So .... Do what most of the volunteers have done, get more jabs.

What's your point exactly? Propoganda?

Are you smoking crack???? Why should she have them twice ffs
BashStreetKid · 20/01/2022 09:28

@Luredbyapomegranate

It’s just an admin error.

They are dealing with millions upon millions of vaccinations. Errors are bound to happen. Don’t waste time personalising it.

The HR department within OP's organisation isn't dealing with millions upon millions. They must be aware that their staff took part in the trial, it really cannot be difficult to ensure that those staff members don't get these letters.

OP, I suggest you raise a formal grievance.

Regularsizedrudy · 20/01/2022 09:31

I known people in your situation, they just got the extra jabs so it would be recognised. Simple.

Unsure33 · 20/01/2022 09:31

@Finallylostit

I went to meeting - told to show proof which i have done 3 times now and still not recognised.

3scape - what go and waste some more tax payers money by getting 3 more vaccines just because people can not get the admin right.

Seriously are you mad.

Just had a v frustrating day - showing pieces of paper that show I am vaccinated and still asked for more information.

I would go straight to HR and say you will be considering wrongful dismissal as you have shown proof of vaccination.
OniferousWasp · 20/01/2022 09:33

I’m sorry you’re going through this OP. I’d be very angry too.

I’m waiting to see what happens from the 1st April when front like workers who choose not to get the vaccine are asked to leave their jobs. How will the NHS cope? Staff shortage is bad enough as it is.

Unsure33 · 20/01/2022 09:35

@Confrontayshunme

If your trial was double blind is there a chance they know you have recieved a placebo/control and you don't? !
That is a good point , was it a placebo trial or just testing antibodies afterwards?

I would still do as others said and raise a formal grievance mentioning wrongful dismissal then relax

trickytimes · 20/01/2022 09:35

Absolutely terrible. Email newspapers. This should be on the front page of every newspaper. It’s disgusting that our money is being wasted chasing people who have been vaccinated. Plus plan b has now been scrapped. We don’t need to be sacking un vaccinated people now. This virus is done.
