To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

I can't vote for any politician, regardless of party, who pretends to believe that biological sex no longer exists or matters.

Nor who deliberately conflates sex and gender to further obfuscate their demolition of women's sex based rights.

And definitely not one who attacks other women, looking to defend women and girls sex based rights and safeguarding, as bigots and phobics of the worst kind, and supports their exclusion from their political party.

I want to vote for a politician who has the integrity and bravery to speak that which they know is the truth, whether it is 'popular' or not on such matters.

It saddens me immensely that there are fewer and fewer people that I could consider voting for. I feel politically homeless for the first time ever.

Perfectly put @Fluffymule. I completely agree with this.

RedRec · 19/01/2022 15:42

She lost every ounce of credibility she ever had when she used the word scum, like some 1970s throwback dinosaur.

Indeed. In a country where our MPs all have very minimal security, meet face to face with the public, and are actually murdered while doing so, including a female MP from her own party. To stoke partisan hatred, and dehumanise your colleagues (don't care if it's the opposition, they are still all colleagues, they all work together and there should be a minimum level of respect for others there) is childish, ignorant and irresponsible.

To then take days to apologise for your comments in the wake of the murder of a fellow MP is beyond the pale.

RedRec · 19/01/2022 15:53

SirSamuel, you took what I said and elaborated on it beautifully. I agree with every word.

Meraas · 19/01/2022 15:59

Just because she grew up more doesn’t mean she is going to give poor people more money.

Brieandcamembert · 19/01/2022 16:07

Good grief. Could you imagine a PM that didn't even use correct grammar in a sentence.

Whatshernamedontmansplain · 19/01/2022 16:28

She would ensure the Tories were permanently in power. I'm working class and she does not represent me or the generations of hard working women on both sides of my family . Her rags to riches story is wearing thin and she misses out some key elements of her success.
As @PronounssheRa said , she would throw the most vulnerable and poorest women and girls under a bus. I actually left Labour after finding I could not vote for any of the female leadership candidates (nor Starmer) and will not be voting or rejoining until the protect our sex based rights. Would possibly rejoin if Rosie Duffield became leader.

I'd settle for even a semi-coherent PM at this point.
Nietzschethehiker · 19/01/2022 16:39

I hope not , and I am very far from the middle class tory supporter image. I don't care about accents or wording (which I agree is a terribly ignorant basic spar point to judge on... its just makes people look silly and vapid if that's their issue).

However she has a set image of what she considers "acceptable " working class. She isn't tolerant of anyone who is anything different and she absolutely behaves like a bully. It's a real pity I can think of so many people from harder circumstances than hers who would be incredible in her role. She's a bully with a mouthpiece.

It's a shame because I really wanted to like her , I really wanted to get behind a female Labour representative. I feel quite let down by her because she could have been an absolute beacon and she chose to become a bullying mouthpiece with no tolerance for anyone who doesn't fit her niche dynamic as "acceptable"

Otherpeoplesteens · 19/01/2022 16:41

@Shade17

Interesting that my post was deleted when I simply used her own language to describe her and nothing more.
There seems to be a lot of deleting on this thread.
A580Hojas · 19/01/2022 16:45

I think Alan Johnson is a working class Labour PM we should have had. Angela Rayner just isn't in the same league.

Muminabun · 19/01/2022 17:06

Didn’t she call her opposition colleagues Tory scum, so unprofessional and inappropriate. She could not work on any shared issues, very aggressive and divisive. I wouldn’t vote for her.

Shambolicatthleast · 19/01/2022 17:07

For a start we don't know her personally. Do you @Nietzschethehiker ? You seem to know that she's a bully and is intolerant. Who has she bullied ? Johnson ?Grin

Newnamefor2022 · 19/01/2022 17:54

Utterly unprofessional and rough as heck. We need proper leadership not one who is as bad as Boris, just in different ways!

MrsPeacockInTheLibrary · 19/01/2022 17:58

It is virtually impossible for Labour, or any party other than the Tories, to win an election for at least the next few generations.

So, no, she won't be PM. Future Labour leaders will just have to get used to opposing as best as they can.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2022 18:05

Someone like AR would be an improvement on Sir Kier Starmer , but she would lose the LP even more votes and the press would tear her apart.
She was good last week over the parties and has apologized for her outburst about the conservatives, but as leader material I think she would be a disaster to be honest because she would not be given a chance and the public would be too wary of her.

A580Hojas · 19/01/2022 20:34

How would Angela Rayner be an improvement on Keir Starmer if she lost the labour party more votes? Don't understand that comment at all.

I'm sorely disappointed in Keir Starmer and wish the party had a more impressive leader. Don't think Angela Rayner is it though!

PoshPyjamas · 19/01/2022 20:44

Both Angela Raynor and Lisa Nandy signed a pledge which committed to expelling women who raise concerns about women's rights and safeguarding, from the Labour Party

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/01/2022 20:45

She's unlikeable

22itsallnew · 19/01/2022 21:00

I think its good to have people with her background in Government - someone who understands the realities of life for a lot of the British public. I also rate Jess Phillips as talking a lot of common sense.I don't think either have the gravitas to be PM though. I also can't see her stealing votes from the Tory heartlands they are just not going to appeal to voters in the Cotswolds.

Yvette Cooper can hold her own. Could she be a Merkel?

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 21:19

She’s done well and I admire her for that.

But she’s desperately immature, and politically she’s an idiot. I don’t think there’s any chance of her getting into power, as the great British public doesn’t often vote in immature left wing idiots, only immature right wing ones…

ScreamingMeMe · 19/01/2022 21:21

Oh Christ I really, really hope not. She's aggressive, rude and not very intelligent. Not a fan, sorry.

GreetingsAndSalutations · 19/01/2022 21:28

I can’t see it happening but I like her and think she’s a great example of achieving what you set out to do against the odds.

@AlternativePerspective

Imagine an election where your choice of leader was between Boris Johnson and Angela Rayner. 😱😱😱
