To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

George Bush went to Yale and got a history degree so he really did not have any excuse for being unable to speak English properly.

I firmly believe it's up to adults to educate and improve themselves.

(I am not overburdened with reverence for Ivy League graduates, though, I have to say.)

Absolutely not. Yuck.

QueenPeony · 19/01/2022 14:16

She has the 16 year old idealogue politics’ student’s understanding of the world. It’s embarrassing.

This is the problem for me. It's not about class, formal education, appearance, accent or degree of mouthiness. What I want in politicians is critical thinking ability, an understanding of logic and evidence, honesty and emotional maturity.

She either believes sex-based rights don't matter, or she's prepared to say that to appeal to pressure groups and ideologues - neither are OK.

I also don't think being working-class and pregnant at a young age automatically makes you somehow savvy and wise and a woman of the people. Of course it doesn't. If she thinks it does that's a worry too.

That doesn't mean she couldn't be - and it certainly doesn't mean that not liking her means I think an eton-educated dimwit is a better option. It's just that things like which school you went to isn't the issue. It's are you any good at political thought, and do you give a crap.

tintodeverano2 · 19/01/2022 14:21

God help us if she ever is PM.

poetryandwine · 19/01/2022 14:33

In short, AR is one of the few women on Labour’s front bench I am not keen to see step forward. I wish I thought she had greater potential. But unlike Yvette Cooper, Lisa Nandy, Emily Thornberry, Rachel Reeves etc she does not seem to be growing. I wish she were doing better as I love the prospect of a WC woman for party leader and PM.

But Keir Starmer also has a WC background; even his name honours it. I think he got off to a slow start in terms of making his case resonate with swing voters but this is his big chance. I think he would be a better PM than he is a politician.

Shock I hope not

joydivisionovengloves71 · 19/01/2022 14:43

@Shambolicatthleast

Lol love Boris cos he's funny.
Me too 😄
whenwillthemadnessend · 19/01/2022 14:44

God no. Awful

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/01/2022 14:45

I can’t believe people are still taken in by Boris being “funny”. He’s a disgrace.

whenwillthemadnessend · 19/01/2022 14:46

If I had to choose between Boris and Angela I'd go for Boris EVEN after all this!!!
Another more credible LP leader then I'd consider.

PumpkinCrumble · 19/01/2022 14:46

No.

Bluebluemoon39 · 19/01/2022 14:52

Yes, I think she should be elected Labours new leader.

(Coz then they'll definitely never get in! 😂)

At least he fits in with the world leaders. I can just imagine how out of place she would look

Completely agree with QueenPeony's post.

jcyclops · 19/01/2022 14:56

I agree she has done well for herself considering her tough early years, but she is a victim of the Peter principle in that she has been promoted way beyond her capabilities. She could become PM one day but it would take an amazing, unbelievable and unfortunate sequence of events. Firstly she has to retain her deputy leader position (not certain by any means). Labour have to win an election with an outright majority (a minority government would have a deputy leader from another party). Labour leader has to resign/die. She would become PM by default until the party could organise a ballot and replace her with someone more suitable for the office.

Just imagine, Angela Rayner, hosting world leaders. Out with the jets and caviar in with the buses and egg and chips for tea.😂😂😂
Coldilox · 19/01/2022 14:57

I do t mind her, but I think Lisa Nandy is who would get my vote

Change123today · 19/01/2022 15:00

I should like her - we come from similar backgrounds but I can’t seem to warm to her. As someone that comes from the most deprived council estate in UK she should give me hope. She doesn’t her interviews always seem she right your wrong, she goes on the defensive every time, comes across very aggressive. I think the momentum lot are stood right behind her and whispering in her ears.

I can’t stand tories , and I’m embarrassed that we as a county voted Boris in.

I just wish labour could sort themselves out - I was hopeful when kier got in but they so quiet. They should be being a stronger opposition and not win because the tories had a party. They just to quiet and right now should be making a difference. A strong leader desperately needed to unite them. As a country we could really do with some decent Leadership.

Ghastly woman, and I'm northern working class

Even though she explicitly said that she thinks it's fine to lock up male convicted rapists and pedophiles in a women's prison?
oncemoreunto · 19/01/2022 15:12

I'm Scottish, working class and sound it.
But my grandfather onwards in my family believed in education even if the state wouldn't give it to you.
I feel she is deliberately playing a role of chippy working class girl, it has done well for her so she isn't changing and growing with all of the opportunities now open to her.
I particularly dislike the way working class is linked in a positive way to a lack of education.

The UK shouldn't limit itself to the two options of Eton establishment or no education and proud of it.

wishingitwasspring · 19/01/2022 15:14

Well that would be a good reason to emigrate.

Shade17 · 19/01/2022 15:31

Interesting that my post was deleted when I simply used her own language to describe her and nothing more.
