To think that Angela Rayner could be PM one day.

I just think she's a breath of fresh air. She's real and authentic, she's come from a poor upbringing. She was her mums carer age 9, was a teenager mum, worked in social care and worked her way up the ladder. I just find it amazing that she's achieved all of this from how her life started. If she was running for PM and the next general election I will definitely be voting for her.

She is misogynistic and appears utterly lacking in intellect, so no.

BringYourOwnBoris · 20/01/2022 09:16

Why are we talking about who should lead the Labour Party? They have an educated, moderate, respectable leader who's only fault seems to be that he is boring.
Well right now, after the showmanship and embarrassing behaviour of Boris, I think "boring/sensible" is exactly what we need.

oldwhyno · 20/01/2022 09:17

She's probably the key thing standing between me and a Labour vote right now.

SofiaSoFar · 20/01/2022 09:18

@User6397254

Yvette Cooper always seem alright, I don't know anything about her but she always interviews fairly well or is she not common enough
I think she'd be great.

Very experienced, calm and knows her stuff, as far as I can see.

AdamRyan · 20/01/2022 09:35

Well said bringyourown

longwayoff · 20/01/2022 09:49

Yes, Yvette Cooper would be excellent, calm, knowedgeable and experienced in the devious world of politics.

Skeumorph · 20/01/2022 10:01

Largely agree with this.
awaynboilyurheid · 20/01/2022 10:29

There’s too many standing in my way of a Conservative vote actually the whole blooming lot of them.
Can you imagine Jacob Rees Mog ugh!

Doubt she will ever be leader just as hopefully JRM will never be leader they all have their sidekicks who are not PM material.

3peassuit · 20/01/2022 13:36

I would love to see Yvette Cooper as party leader too.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/01/2022 13:55

Wow!

So this thread was very well timed, it seems. Hmm

Angela Rayner has told CNBC today that it's a case of "never say never" for her leading Labour.

She might lead Labour one day. But not to victory!

longwayoff · 20/01/2022 14:16

Oh dear. That's not good, notwithstanding my belief that snobbery is the main thing standing in her way, I can see she's probably as unelectable as JC.

Nanny0gg · 20/01/2022 14:29

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

I like her and would have no problem with her being PM.

A lot of the criticism of her is uninformed in my opinion and based on prejudice rather than reality.

Such as?
SueSaid · 20/01/2022 14:32

'Yvette Cooper always seem alright, I don't know anything about her but she always interviews fairly well or is she not common enough'

She does come across really well doesn't she, intelligent and quite steely. They really need to get shot of Angie and her lily savage hairdo.

MaMaLa321 · 20/01/2022 15:13

I think Alan Johnson is a working class Labour PM we should have had.
this

the80sweregreat · 20/01/2022 16:20

That was a bit low about Angela's hair ..
I think she has great , healthy hair. Should she have a iron grey bobcut to be taken seriously?
This is the type of comment that means she would never get a good press , especially from the likes of Murdoch and his henchmen.
I find it sad to be honest , even if her remarks about Conservative voters wasn't one of her finest moments ( which did she apologize for)

Mybumlooksbig · 20/01/2022 16:33

Love her. We need a working class hero

Viviennemary · 20/01/2022 16:35

She will lead Labour even further into the realms of the unelectable. Cheers from all Tories. You go Angela.

oncemoreunto · 20/01/2022 16:47

I like her hair for what it is worth.
I don't like cod working class, playing to the lowest common dominator whenever possible.
Encouraging crass assumptions about the aspirations of working class people with regards to education.
Showing no signs of maturing or developing as a person because the persona you have developed is more important.
But as I said the hair I actually like.

Saucery · 20/01/2022 16:51

They hate you if you’re clever/but they despise a fool

Her hair is neither here nor there, really.

Yes, but why does it have to be a caricature of a working class person. I am/was working class and I can't relate at all.

No, I actually think her ability to make embarrassing gaffs is not far removed from Boris.

I suspect Keir (suspiciously absent) Starmer is using her to do all the talking now so nothing sticks to him and she’ll get thrown under a bus by the next election

Twinkleylight · 20/01/2022 17:12

She'd piss off Putin in 2 seconds flat who'd probably send an army to invade Britain because of her.

the80sweregreat · 20/01/2022 17:17

She was on with James o Brien ( lbc) today and she speaks really well. On point, clear and concise
She knows the MP who has made the blackmail allegations quite well and said that he wouldn't have said anything if it wasn't true.
She came across well , but then she was talking to someone who loathes the PM as much as she does, so it wasn't the toughest of interviews , but she wasn't too bad. He brought up her comments and she admitted it wasn't her finest hour..
She will never be PM though , I think that is pretty clear as not the right background ( wrong hair too apparently:(
