AIBU to assume Boris Johnson is lying?

Cummings says that he warned Boris the drinks party was against the covid rules.

Boris says he didn’t. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60039868

So, given the track record, AIBU to assume that BJ is either
(A) lying to Parliament, or
(B) so bad at his job that he has no idea what his private secretary is up to, or what the rules he created actually said, or what the difference is between working and having a drinks party.

@Ipadflowers

I don’t think Cummings is the most honest of people either to be fair. And he’s going after Boris and making it his life’s work to get him out of office as revenge for loosing his job, so In this I’m not so sure.
I agree. They're both as bad as each other. But in any other similar situation where Cummings is NOT involved, then yes, Boris Johnson is lying.
AuntMasha · 18/01/2022 14:53

Johnson will not only lie but blame other boys. That’s what the snivelling coward has always done starting from when he was at Eton.

AlexaShutUp · 18/01/2022 14:53

Quite why journalists aren't just reporting his pathetic excuse and then saying "But they arehisrules", I have no idea.

I know. I really wanted Beth Rigby to challenge him on this earlier.

DGRossetti · 18/01/2022 14:54

I find myself wondering what Boris Johnsons security clearance is ? He's demonstrably untrustworthy so it should be as low as is possible, really.

Especially now we know that even when you tell him something, it doesn't stick.

Blossomtoes · 18/01/2022 14:54

@Tallyhodavey

This isn’t anything new. Tony Blair should have been indicted for war crimes IMHO. They are all liars.
This is getting very stale now. Blair’s been gone for 14 years now.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/01/2022 14:55

When two known liars make contradictory statements, which of them is lying? Sounds like one of those “if a tree falls in the woods…” puzzles.

Of course BJ is lying. If there’s any way for Cummings to be lying too, then he probably is also lying.

whatkatydid2013 · 18/01/2022 14:56

Well if he isn’t lying he’s stupid and incompetent. He’s lying though. He lies like normal people breathe.

kittensinthekitchen · 18/01/2022 14:57

Of course he's lying, it's obvious from what he is saying and how he looks saying it.

Anyone that believes him is obviously the type to say "Oh, my child never lies", at the same time as saying "I absolutely know if my child is lying".

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/01/2022 15:00

@noblegiraffe

Are his lips moving?

Then he’s lying.

Yup.

Gob open = lies.
Gob closed = thinking about lying.

Myturnatlast · 18/01/2022 15:01

He's either lying or he's really stupid.

He's not fit to lead either way.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/01/2022 15:03

there's another...

eyes closed = dreaming about lying.

🤬

DrSbaitso · 18/01/2022 15:05

He lied to his wife, he lied to his mistress, he lied to the press, he lied to his readers, he lied to Parliament, he lied to voters, he lied to the Queen and he's lying to you.

Clutterbugsmum · 18/01/2022 15:07

I’m sick and tired of Bojo whining about “No one toooolllld me” like a bloody 5 year old.
I’m sorry he’s either drunk one drugs or suffering from early onset dementia

Glittertwins · 18/01/2022 15:11

Johnson is a serial liar, he just can't seem to help himself. However, I believe DC even less and the timing make me think he's shit stirring and tell more untruths!

MintJulia · 18/01/2022 15:12

Cummings is acting so much like a vengeful jilted lover, to me, he's stopped being credible.

I'm sure the invitation email, with invitees will leak at some point and then we'll know for sure

Blossomtoes · 18/01/2022 15:14

@DrSbaitso

He lied to his wife, he lied to his mistress, he lied to the press, he lied to his readers, he lied to Parliament, he lied to voters, he lied to the Queen and he's lying to you.
And it’s not as if Max Hastings, his former boss, didn’t warn us.

AlexaShutUp · 18/01/2022 15:15

I wouldn't trust Cummings in the slightest. He is a despicable human being. There is no doubt that he is out for revenge and there is nothing remotely public spirited about his revelations. Nevertheless, I believe him on this occasion because I believe that he has plenty of ammunition without the need to make stuff up.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/01/2022 15:17

Johnson had exactly the same ability to access current advice as every other adult. He's either lying or very stupid, probably both.

Blossomtoes · 18/01/2022 15:17

Johnson would not recognise truth, whether about his private or political life, if confronted by it in an identity parade. In a commonplace book the other day, I came across an observation made in 1750 by a contemporary savant, Bishop Berkeley: “It is impossible that a man who is false to his friends and neighbours should be true to the public.” Almost the only people who think Johnson a nice guy are those who do not know him.

AlexaShutUp · 18/01/2022 15:18

Johnson had exactly the same ability to access current advice as every other adult.

Well, yes. And I doubt that anyone else got away with a defence of "nobody told me".

Exhausteddog · 18/01/2022 15:18

The thing I don't understand is why he repeatedly keeps saying that nobody told him it would be breaking the rules...he made the fucking rules though, so why would he even need to be told?!

Agree.
...but the depressing thing is that Dominic Cummings probably had a hand in making (and consequently breaking) the rules as well.
They are both lying shits.
It's unbelievably depressing that these are the people who are in authority (and that so many people are allegedly ok with thatSad)

Flowertailbird · 18/01/2022 15:20

He's Boris Johnson so yes, he's lying. Lying Mclyingface.

Figgygal · 18/01/2022 15:21

@noblegiraffe

Are his lips moving?

Then he’s lying.

Exactly this
SirChenjins · 18/01/2022 15:22

I suppose the difference between the two shits is that Cummings is no longer in post, whereas Johnson appears to be in charge of the UK and still lying his pants off.

Lolamento · 18/01/2022 15:22

@Tallyhodavey

This isn’t anything new. Tony Blair should have been indicted for war crimes IMHO. They are all liars.
Tony Blair is the worst of all. There is not one politician at the moment that I respect or trust. I find naive of people who believe Labour or Lib Dems would be better. Outside the U.K. Trudeau and Macron also a couple of idiots and is worrying what they are doing to their countries. However, there is bad and there is suicide.
