To refuse to kiss 70 animals a day?

DS has slowly got into cuddly toys more and more. It got to the point where he had some on his shelf and some in his bed and he wanted me to kiss them goodnight, so I did.

But now he is insisting on having all of them in his bed. There's at least 35 if not 40. And he has a nap as well - so they both need two kisses a day.

Am I being a total bitch to refuse to kiss that many soft toys? He was 3 in September.

I've just remembered making special monster-killing spray out of an old plant sprayer that had to be scooshed around the room and general underbed vicinity. (And a sign that said NO MONSTERS ALLOWED on the door - it really worked).

You could def repurpose one of these for kissing spray.

Spreadingtheword · 18/01/2022 16:46

Hahaha my DD is two and I requested soft toys for Christmas as I’ve decided to throw her into my 90’s childhood and cover the end of her bed in as many stuffed toys as physically possible.

I hated teddies until about 3 months ago. Something in me changed. - she has one particular favourite soft toy that has took a place of pride in sleeping with her rather than at the end of the bed, this particular toy now gets ‘Eskimo’ kisses, ‘mummy’ (normal)’ and butterfly (eyelash) kisses the same as dd at bedtime. It is pretty exhausted trying to tickle a Teddy with my eyelashes at bedtime but watching DD then copy and try the same afterward is just too damn cute not to do it.

TheDuchessOfBeddington · 18/01/2022 16:56

Bless him OP that is so cute. I have 2 cuddly toys in my bed and I’m a grown woman. My DH questioned the second one as I guess he was worried he would be sharing a bed with 40 of the fuckers. Ironically he was the one who gifted them to me.

Anyway, kiss them now, and ensure you pass on this story to whoever is doing the speeches at his wedding 😂

This is genius! And probably the cutest thing I’ve heard at year.

Your son has 40 stuffed animals?

I think the problem is not about kissing them.

stuntbubbles · 18/01/2022 17:11

Of course the problem is kissing them. Children are allowed to have an insane amount of stuffed animals.

I’d rather kiss DD’s animals than play the “can bear/bunny/lion sing the goodnight song?” because they’ve all got different fucking voices and I always forget and get it wrong. Bring on the animal snogging!

Frollop · 18/01/2022 17:27

This thread made me Grin
I needed this..things not been good for me for a while...I may kiss my animals too lol X

FrecklesMalone · 18/01/2022 17:29

Yabvvvvu reasonable for how will they go to sleep.

Doomscrolling · 18/01/2022 18:14

I had this with the youngest. I blew a big kiss with both hands to "all our friends ready for their naps" and that seemed to work.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 18/01/2022 18:20

This is the sort of shit that happens to me. I have enough one day and say no but then after 10/20 mins of tantrums realise it would have just been easier to kiss the fucking toys and I end up doing it anyway 😆🤦🏻‍♀️🤪

User135792468 · 18/01/2022 18:26

Why would you not just kiss them goodnight? If your dc is getting so upset then I actually think you’re a bit unkind as it’s not exactly hard and would probably take a few minutes at most.

AliveAndSleeping · 18/01/2022 18:26

@INeedNewShoes

We have a max 3 cuddly toys in bed rule in this house.

Yes I know I'm dull but it just avoids me having to deal with crap like this Grin

I'm impressed at your 3 year old's ability to amass soft toys. Who's buying them all!?

Neighbours, friends and relatives. I've bought DD just one but she's got dozens given by others. In addition she nicks the ones given to her little brother. He's only six months old and has already got more than a dozen.
Nanny0gg · 18/01/2022 18:33

Say that you shouldn't because Covid?

murasaki · 18/01/2022 18:45

My sister used to make.mum kiss the poster of Kylie that was on her wardrobe door. Think yourself lucky ( lucky lucky etc)

Sunnytwobridges · 18/01/2022 18:52

I would never kiss them, no one has time for all of that lol but I like a pp suggesting of blowing them a kiss and calling it a day lol

girlmom21 · 18/01/2022 18:59

I'm confused as to why so many people think "I can't because of covid" is a good excuse to give to a 3 year old...

I assumed they were joking...
MisiSam · 18/01/2022 20:52

I would pick a main most important toy, the senior toy, so his favourite maybe? Kiss that one and say that toy will pass it on to the others!

DueyCheatemAndHow · 18/01/2022 21:39

So I went in with my compromise

And left having kissed every last fucking one.

New strategy - siphon off the ones he doesn't give a shite about

Do you think its a going to bed delaying tactic?

TotoAnnihiliation · 18/01/2022 21:55

I was once woken up by DD calling to me in the middle of the night. I stumbled into her bedroom to check on her. The reason she wanted me? Her favourite cuddly needed a kiss from me.

I decided to laugh about it, I will remember that moment when I was centre of her world for the rest of my life.

HP87 · 18/01/2022 22:06

We have a soft toy one in one out policy. Whenever she picks one up in a shop I ask which one she's getting rid of to make space, she soon puts it back! You need to start this soon!!

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 18/01/2022 22:09

My 8 year old boy was always into his cuddles but over lockdown and moving up to juniors with very little transition he has become really attached to them. There's his top one, then the next three, then the next tier of about 5, then probably 8 more. He carries them about the house, from the sofa to the bathroom to watch him have a bath then to bed. It's very sweet.

Porcupineintherough · 18/01/2022 22:11

@stingofthebutterfly

Stop the nap and you've halved your problem. Why does he need a nap at 3?
Hmm
