To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

I'm thinking that there never was a laptop. I don't even think there was a next door neighbour.

TreadLightly3 · 18/01/2022 16:58

😂😂😂😂

TreadLightly3 · 18/01/2022 16:58

@NotMyselfWithoutCoffee

Op made owl noises at the neighbour while arguing about the missing laptop so they are now not speaking. Grin
😂😂😂
whatwasIgoingtosay · 18/01/2022 17:16

OP where are you????

REP22 · 18/01/2022 17:22

Do you think StarWa is the NDN covering tracks by starting this thread? On the laptop.

Or the cat?

Nikkic2123 · 18/01/2022 17:26

Hilarious
I love how must have a fabulous sense of humour x

Mollysocks · 18/01/2022 17:27
@Mollysocks First an exciting update off OP (neighbour coming around! Unprompted!), though we still don’t know what’s happened, and then an Only Murders reference... My kind of thread.
@evtheria Grin Is OP’s neighbour a bassoon player 🤣

rrhuth · 18/01/2022 18:01

placemarking just in case there is ever a conclusion

thisplaceisweird · 18/01/2022 18:03

Go to flying tiger and get 3 or 4 silly things, like crafts or those dinosaur excavation kits or little handheld games. Failing that bubbles and a colouring in book. Your husband is a meanie!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 18/01/2022 18:04

@StarWa

Haha, I know! Thank you. I'm one of those people who (usually) always blames themselves and would never accuse anyone of anything if I think I may have made a mistake!

She's still not here 😂

Did she turn up? I’ve never been so invested in a story!

MNHQ have deleted it! Meanies.

Zonder · 18/01/2022 18:35

Wow! Since when did MN take down a thread cos it's old?

QOD · 18/01/2022 18:39

noooooooooooooooo so unfair!

StarWa · 18/01/2022 18:43

Aghh sorry sorry, I work long hours - I haven't been stolen 😂

No, she never came round. I text her to ask if everything was okay and if she was still coming over. She replied:

"Sorry, something came up, another time!"

I still haven't found the laptop - I know it's not here. I know for a fact I left it where I always do.

If she's given "someone" the keys because she was busy I'd rather she just told me.

I feel like I'm in limbo now - I am going between confronting her/ calling the police/ letting it go. I don't know what to do.

Also, a pp mentioned she might have seen this thread, I don't think it's likely. However, I'm starting not to care either way 😭 I just want it back!

Do you have a gift for them for looking after your house? If so just pop round with it and ask if they have any idea where you might have left your laptop cos you can't find it.

MaudieandMe · 18/01/2022 18:49

At this stage I think you should message her to say that you’ve searched everywhere and will have to report the missing Laptop to the Police so that you can claim on your insurance. You’re just letting her know in case the Police need to interview her as she was the last person on the house whilst you were away.

StarWa · 18/01/2022 18:50

@Zonder why didn't I think of that! I have a bottle of Prosecco in my fridge. And a gift bag 😂

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 18/01/2022 18:51

It's sounding increasingly dodgy tbh.

I suspect she borrowed it and it broke or she forgot to put it back.

I think someone's spiked your Ribena, pet.

When you open the fridge, you'll probably find the laptop in there.

Freecuthbert · 18/01/2022 18:55

If you've looked absolutely everywhere now, you're just going to have to report it to the police and claim on insurance. Don't just let it go!

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 18/01/2022 19:06

OP
YOU CAME BACK FOR US!

Emerald5hamrock · 18/01/2022 19:11

You returned OP. 🎉
I think she may have allowed someone use the keys.
Very strange.

Diva66 · 18/01/2022 19:23

Place marking 🙂
