To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

@purplecorkheart

140:1 Op brought the laptop on her trip and forgot it at airport security
Oooooh... interesting other scenarios!

I suspect we need to start doing some 5/2 and Lower odd ratios .... Smile

MagicKit · 18/01/2022 15:16

What happened then?

danblack87 · 18/01/2022 15:24

The cat nicked it 'cos it was warm after she turned it off. It's in the cat's bed 100:1!!!

@Shapiro

The laptop has been taken and placed in the Victorian safe.
😂👍

Blimey this is the longest cup of tea ever.

Do you think the ndn stole the laptop and laced her tea?

KittyKattyFosterMummy · 18/01/2022 15:48

I reckon the NDN was planning on moving the laptop to a safe place but dropped it whilst trying to be helpful and wants to explain in person.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 18/01/2022 15:48

Op made owl noises at the neighbour while arguing about the missing laptop so they are now not speaking. Grin

Freecuthbert · 18/01/2022 15:50

Has the neighbour escalated her criminal activity from theft to kidnapping and possibly murder?

Namechangeforthis88 · 18/01/2022 15:50

It's a time shift mystery and the laptop was actually taken before the op went away, possibly replaced with a replica that disappears of its own accord over the time she's away, perhaps a laptop shaped packet containing frozen black ink, with a hole positioned over a potted plant, so that the frozen ink gradually defrosts and drains into the potted plant, where it disappears without a trace.

At some point in the next few weeks the op will find the empty plastic sleeve and will dispose of it, thinking it perhaps originally contained a magazine or brochure of some sort, when in fact it was the only clue to the crime.

morrisy · 18/01/2022 15:50

300:1

OP can’t find the laptop and neighbour hasn’t showed up to her house because OP is still not back from her getaway.

LostFrog · 18/01/2022 15:52

Fgs @StarWa, are you going to tell us or not?

GreenEyeOfTheLittleYellowGod · 18/01/2022 15:53

Glitch in the matrix perhaps! Happened to me once with a can of cider...

StrangerThanSpring · 18/01/2022 15:59

It will mysteriously turn up somewhere you have already checked several times. This always happens with me.

Will nobody think of the cat?

Left all alone for 3 weeks with just a burglar popping in and out for company.

Nikkic2123 · 18/01/2022 16:16

Is there an update?

BertramLacey · 18/01/2022 16:17

Hope OP isn’t being held hostage by her neighbour

Well at least that way we'd get a note.

I can't breathe! That thread is brilliant! Grin

butterpuffed · 18/01/2022 16:47

OP was away for the three weeks as she was actually moving. She's obviously returned to the old house by mistake, hence the missing laptop.
That's why the NDN planned to come round last night, simply to inform OP she's in the wrong house.
