DH watching the film and guffawing. I tried 10 minutes and couldn't take any more.

Never met a woman who finds it funny.

Or Monty Python.

AIBU?

I'm a woman and I've always found him funny.

IWantMoreStationery · 17/01/2022 13:56

Ahhhh I bloody love there episode! And Sonia's face as she's smelling a rat! Love her.

"Classic intercourse"! Grin

Like a lot of programmes Monty Python was very funny when it first started because the type of humour was new but it went on too long and other programmes developed from it and it didn't change to meet newer ideas.

////

But I think it's deliberate to show what a dinosaur AP is.

SallyWD · 17/01/2022 14:00

I haven't watched the latest series of Alan Partridge bit found the older ones absolutely hilarious! I'm a wan and this is my type of humour.

SpinsForGin · 17/01/2022 14:25

Alan partridge, I just can't, thoughts of it make me shudder

I've always thought that was the point......

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 17/01/2022 14:29

@goldensilver

Also, the actor who plays Lynne is brilliant
So is Susannah Fielding as Jenny in This Time. Totally nails that type of “One Show” host.
thetwofridas · 17/01/2022 14:44

I can't stand Partridge either OP! Never ever understood the appeal - I don't like cringe comedy as a general rule, but even putting that aspect aside I just cannot find it funny.

I do enjoy a lot of Python stuff though, although I agree with PP that a lot of it is quite dated now.

daisiesonmydress · 17/01/2022 15:01

In reference to some other comments, I think The Young Ones has aged so badly.

I loved it as a young teenager but now it's just puerile (struggled to spell puerile) Confused

YABU. Funniest comic character of the last 30 years. Gets better with age and more backstory too.

As you are not an AP fan OP, I am going to assume that my very clever reference to 'American things' has passed you by. (Probably my username too)

What an odd thing to say. For the record, I'm a woman and I love both.
todaysdilemma · 17/01/2022 18:18

I

I love AP! And am female. In fact, it was something i made mention of on my dating profile because i knew any bloke who enjoyed it would have the same sense of humour as me, and sure enough, I found one who did. Our communication has a lot of AP memes and gifs. He is a fantastic character and the dialogue is so clever.

I didn't grow up in the UK so only discovered it in my mid 20s, but have re-watched it many times since.

"That was ‘Big Yellow Taxi’ by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they ‘paved paradise to put up a parking lot’, a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn’t quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song."

Class Partridge!

todaysdilemma · 17/01/2022 18:19

Classic Partridge!

SingleHandSue · 17/01/2022 18:40

@goldensilver

Loved the episode when he was talking at a charity function for someone who had lost their hand in an accident and he said "Let's all give a big ha.... Applaud! Applaud like mad!"

Also when he is at the funeral of Tony Hayers, looking fairly smart in a Partridge way and he turns round and has Castrol GTX on the back of the jacket 😂

I know loads of people who don't find it funny, but a similar amount that do. It would be boring if we all had the same sense of humour.

Single hand Sue right here Wink

‘She’s like a human JCB’

SingleHandSue · 17/01/2022 18:45

‘Look we all these brave people’

‘So ruddy, bloody brave’

goldensilver · 17/01/2022 18:53

@SingleHandSue 😂😂😂 love it

rachb2019 · 17/01/2022 18:59

I thought Tony Ferrino was a superb character as well - the song "The Valley of Our Souls" was genius.

I saw his live show in 1998 at the Ipswich Regent (supported by Simon Pegg and Julia Davis) and it was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Also saw the one in 2008 - that was less good, the lyrics of the final song were a bit of a shock! Shock

somewhereoverthechipshop · 17/01/2022 19:39

why would women not find it funny? I’m like his number one fan!!

Lifeisnteasy · 17/01/2022 19:53

Alan’s brilliant. Utterly pedantic and lacking in self awareness. We all know one. Like David Brent.

sweatervest · 17/01/2022 20:15

monkey tennis is literally in the dictionary. allegedly.

plus alan partridge is doing a ted talk at the o2 in june and i am going and i can't wait and i heart steve coogan and i love the trip and no i haven't stopped to draw breath yet.
