DH watching the film and guffawing. I tried 10 minutes and couldn't take any more.

Never met a woman who finds it funny.

Or Monty Python.

AIBU?

Yeah I sort of hate it. I have family members who find it absolutely hilarious though.

A580Hojas · 16/01/2022 01:52

I am a woman. Monty Python leaves me completely cold. Alan Partridge I find very funny.

colinthecaterpillarisinnocent · 16/01/2022 02:11

Whenever I see the opening credits to Morning Live it makes me think of the latest AP chat show 😀

Can't stand Monty Python though, love This Country. Perhaps Richard Madely makes it hard to see AP as a spoof presenter.

Monkey tennis?

Wafflesnsniffles · 16/01/2022 02:34

daisiesonmydress Im with you. We are the minority apparently but I dont find AP funny at all.

DeeCeeCherry · 16/01/2022 02:42

What's in the draw? I need to know

PhilCornwall1 · 16/01/2022 04:31
Alan and the sex people is hysterical
I can't believe I'm going to say this!!!

That actually was funny!!

blubberball · 16/01/2022 04:42

Monty Python is very hit and miss, but I still love Life of Brian.

I love Alan Partridge. The Alpha Papa film wasn't the best, but I love the audio book I Partridge and the I'm Alan Partridge series.

Mulliganandohare · 16/01/2022 08:22

I’m in the ‘love Alan’ camp. Not so keen on This Time but it has its moments. The podcast ‘AP from The Oasthouse’ is back to his original best, anyone listened? Kept me going through lockdown..

Get me out of here, these people are cunts

Gucuum-pah

alilstressed · 16/01/2022 08:33

Aha!

I've loved Alan Partridge since 'Knowing Me, Knowing You.' A really great, observed character set against the media in a particular part of the country.

I also really enjoyed The Trip.

the80sweregreat · 16/01/2022 09:37

Pulling was funny , Tanya Frank was brilliant in that.
Sharon Horgan is a brilliant writer and actor who is often overlooked for the likes of Waller Bridge or Miranda Hart.

dittymcdit · 16/01/2022 10:14

I find it hilarious and know plenty of women who do too. I've never thought of it as a comedy that wasn't for women? Confused
I admit I was disappointed with the film, but the TV series are generally wonderful. I think that it actually has some great female characters too. It's a very long time since I watched Knowing Me Knowing You, but I'm sure I recall Rebecca Front playing some great characters that picked Alan up on being a sexist prick.
I say "smell my cheese!" And "DAN!!!" far more than I should Grin

You have to see them in context!
ClafoutisSurprise · 16/01/2022 10:39

I’m Alan Partridge is perfection. I can’t think of a scene or even line that doesn’t hit the spot. The Dante’s Fires episode is the best half hour of comedy I’ve seen - even the slapstick (which I usually find beyond cringey) with the makeshift table and lights is faultlessly funny. By contrast, Curb has some great moments but it’s far less consistent and quite a bit feels like filler. Unsurprising given how much of Curb there is compared to the two seasons of Im AP. But actually I can’t think of any comedy series that I enjoy every moment of as much as I’m AP. I love League of Gentlemen, for example, but not all characters are equally funny.

The other AP stuff is more up and down, although Coogan always acts him well.

ClafoutisSurprise · 16/01/2022 10:45

I've never thought of it as a comedy that wasn't for women?

Especially as all women will have met at least one Alan in their lives. Which one of us has not been Sophie standing behind reception at the Linton Travel Tavern listening with politely concealed amusement and pity to a puffed-up character at some point?

aSofaNearYou · 16/01/2022 10:47

I find both Alan Partridge and Monty Python funny, definitely a woman.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/01/2022 10:48

Indeed.

And most will have become confused by a yes or a no.

Although not many would have wanted porn to come on their telly…

OhWhyNot · 16/01/2022 10:56

Curb Your Enthusiasm is funnier

You might like Seinfeld too

I like Alan Partridge but feel it’s over rated. Monty Python is just silly I don’t find it funny and even less funny are those people who think reciting a scene is funny

I agree about Curb. It’s DH’s favourite and if our house was on fire, he would probably save his book signed by Larry David before he looked for me or the dog.

I do enjoy it over all but it’s not as consistently funny or quotable as AP, and sometimes I get secondhand embarrassment so badly my stomach hurts Blush

Although I’ll admit that I shout ‘I’m an orphan, Larry!’ more often than necessary and I will always suggest that DH ‘topsy turvy that motherfucker’ when he needs to make a situation work in his favour Grin

JanLevinsonGould · 16/01/2022 11:17

Alan you can't!

RockinHorseShit · 16/01/2022 11:22

YANBU & he's a sleaze to boot & I have met him

rachb2019 · 16/01/2022 11:26

Some of his sport reports in The Day Today were genius where he didn't understand the sports he was commentating on.

I remember one where a diver misjudged his dive and caught the back of his head on the diving board and Alan commentated as though it was intentional...

"Let's see that again... he boings down... up.... double back twister... bangs his head on the board and in! The judges will surely give him top marks for that"

Then there was the moment in his chat show where he accidentally shot his guest... that was so well produced it looked genuine.

lynntheyresexswappers · 16/01/2022 12:47

Am starting to wonder if OP is in fact a reincarnation of Tony Hares

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/01/2022 13:01

It is either him or Gordon.

I’m thinking on…

Yorkshirelass04 · 16/01/2022 14:27

I also reckon Steve Coogan is more like AP than he cares to admit.

Tho didn't he have an affair with Courtney Love?
