DH watching the film and guffawing. I tried 10 minutes and couldn't take any more.

Never met a woman who finds it funny.

Or Monty Python.

AIBU?

With you on Monty Python. Aside from Michael Palin it's just horric unfunny rubbish. I can't even look at John Cleese without wanting to irrationally shout at the screen.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 17/01/2022 00:43

@Benjispruce5

We went on holiday to Ireland a few years ago and I lost count of the amount of times DH said “There’s more to Ireland dan dis!”
🤣🤣🤣
youvegottenminuteslynn · 17/01/2022 00:47

Ahem.

YABVU.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 17/01/2022 00:50

@Ukholidaysaregreat

Is no one going to mention Paul and Pauline Calf? I loved them!
I love Steve Coogan. Paul and Pauline calf are amazing. Pauline reminds me so much of my auntie from Bolton 🤣. He has the characters he does, down to an absolute T.

Wonder if it's a North West thing. I feel very protective of all of Steve Coogans characters. Even Duncan Thicket doing David Daft 😂

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 17/01/2022 00:51

Da Edge is foine 😂

Lily019 · 17/01/2022 00:57

Christ I actually cannot watch anything with Steve Coogan. Cannot abide the man. I honestly think he's talentless and just unfunny.
Similarly Miranda, and Mrs Brown's Boys. Love MP though and very keen follower of all things comedy since the late 70s to present day. Just dont get why anyone would think the above are remotely funny.

foxlover47 · 17/01/2022 01:11

@DorothyZbornakIsAQueen Tony Ferino was also one of my faves , bigamy at Christmas 🤣🤣🤣

Monkeytennis97 · 17/01/2022 01:17

@Karenity

Yabvvvu. Michael jumping off Cromer pier is up there as one of the great moments in comedy history.

Monkey tennis!

You called?!SmileGrin

AP is the best. I'm Alan Partridge series 1 is my favourite. Love the Hamilton Waterways episode.

"Dr No...... vocal chords"

Granted Alpha Papa and This Time aren't the best.

I also love Mid Morning Matters and am an avid listener to the Monkey Tennis podcast (even been to one of their shows).

Monkeytennis97 · 17/01/2022 01:21

@JanLevinsonGould

Alan you can't!
Well there's no need for that!!!Grin
WeasilyPleased · 17/01/2022 02:40

Having worked in local radio stations I find it absolutely hilarious and Monty Python still reduces me to hysterics.

DedalusBloom · 17/01/2022 04:41

Kommen sie bitte und listen to Kraftwerk!

Love AP. Although was not convinced by the latest offering.

There's very little comedy I don't find amusing to be fair, ( I'm easily pleasedGrin) but Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda are beyond the pale.

This Country is absolutely sublime.

aConcernedPrude · 17/01/2022 06:58

How's Adam Clayton?

Huy456 · 17/01/2022 08:00

Fine

goldensilver · 17/01/2022 10:51

Loved the episode when he was talking at a charity function for someone who had lost their hand in an accident and he said
"Let's all give a big ha.... Applaud! Applaud like mad!"

Also when he is at the funeral of Tony Hayers, looking fairly smart in a Partridge way and he turns round and has Castrol GTX on the back of the jacket 😂

I know loads of people who don't find it funny, but a similar amount that do. It would be boring if we all had the same sense of humour.

goldensilver · 17/01/2022 10:51

Also, the actor who plays Lynne is brilliant

AryaStarkWolf · 17/01/2022 10:54

Another woman here who finds him hilarious :p

RockinHorseShit · 17/01/2022 11:11

Quite a few on MN have got to know Steve Coogan very well. I have for some odd reason meet a few women who have known him well he gets about

Yes, for sure, I've known a few women with low self esteem get hooked up with him, the stories of his ready to go for when he pulls kinky underwear dress up chest, turned my stomach. Personally I told him to feck off & don't understand why they didn't 🤢

JudgeJ · 17/01/2022 11:57

Like a lot of programmes Monty Python was very funny when it first started because the type of humour was new but it went on too long and other programmes developed from it and it didn't change to meet newer ideas.
MarieIVanArkleStinks · 17/01/2022 12:04

Don't know. I used to find him mildly entertaining but I find it difficult to separate the character from the actor. There's something about Steve Coogan makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and absolutely not in a good way.

Monty Python, mentioned upthread, was a bit hit and miss (of the films, Life of Brian and The Holy Grail were a laugh a minute for their total ridiculousness, but The Meaning of Life IMO was awful.

Big Rik Mayall fan here, and although it's dated now I still love 'The Comic Strip Presents ...'

PolytheneRam · 17/01/2022 12:06

I absolutely love A. P and Python!

ethelredonagoodday · 17/01/2022 12:08

It makes me howl. Is hilarious!

LemonMuffins · 17/01/2022 12:16

You are not alone OP. Have never found AP remotely entertaining.

I sure as hell don't enjoy that pile of tripe Miranda either.

Also don't enjoy Blackadder.

zigzag56445 · 17/01/2022 12:19

Alan partridge, I just can't, thoughts of it make me shudder. Same as Mr bean, I just dont understand the appeal.

Monty python however, love it!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 17/01/2022 13:16

If you ask me, it's the behaviour of a "dosser". Dave Clifton : A "dosser"? Alan Partridge : Yes, a "dosser" and a "dwad". Alan Partridge : There are others, aren't there, there's "did-head" and there's "dalendless shid".
And if rumour is to be believed, you’re back on the boddle.
