Yes always on the left hand side…dog now on right hand side…husband in spare room…we both snore loudly so it works!

If you don’t have a side, that means you don’t have a pillow or your partner touches your pillow . We switched side briefly when I was pregnant and then switched back. We pick the same sides when we are away too. The only exception was when we visited my mum in my childhood home. For some reason we both slept on the ‘wrong’ side but it was the side for being at my mums.

@FingChristmasFamily get a chillow for DH. It’s a cooling gel insert for the pillow. If you search for it on Amazon you’ll see what I mean (and can source it elsewhere if you prefer). The reviews are mostly from menopausal women but I got one for DH a few years ago because he was also really sweaty (it’s lessened since we changed our mattress). It was a game changer. He’d still get hot but nowhere near as bad before. DH used to put it in the fridge before bed and it would still get too hot after a few hours so he’d end up taking out part way through the night but the pillow lasted a lot longer and he actually got more sleep because he was cooler. I’m not saying you should then swap sides or pillows but it made a difference for me not sleeping next to the human radiator.

@SallyGoLucky Me too! Always the side furthest from the door. Spooky

@filka

We have two homes and sleep on different sides in each. Not quite sure of the rationale, it just happened naturally. May be coincidence but I'm on the same side as the car steering wheel in both.
We are the same! We both want to sleep on one particular side (the right) so we each get a turn in different places.

I remember reading years ago in a "psychology" mag that you can test your partner's flexibility / rigidity by casually asking to swap that night. I tried it on my then-husband, a very rigid man and to my surprise he immediately agreed with a laugh 😂

Absolutely we have sides of the bed. We swapped for a couple of months when my DH had a hip replacement and needed the side near the door as the other side was too close to the wall.

When he was recovered we switched back.

Oh my god, am I a weirdo? We don't always sleep on the same side of the bed, but we only have one bedside table and charger which is by the one side. So it all depends on who needs to charge their phone that night Grin

steppemum · 16/01/2022 00:45

Totally have sides!

  1. I want to sleep on my pillow, size and squishiness is chosen for me, dh's pillow is different. Plus I don't want to sleep on his sweat or slobber.
  2. My book, clock and phone and charger are on my side. And then my jewellry box, and the bedside table has drawers with my deodorant and scaves and stuff. And my chair with my discarded clothes.

In a hotel we usually stick to same sides, but when camping we swap so I have the side easier to get out from.

safclass · 17/01/2022 00:07

Is that affected by position of bed in room, proximity / position of bedroom Door??

lightand · 17/01/2022 00:21

I have a side. But I think, left to himself, DH would change about.

Pedalpushers · 17/01/2022 00:27

We have sides at home, and whenever we go anywhere my DH lets me pick first as I have random preferences and need to assess every time.
