Promoted by a twitter thread with some great responses

But seriously i feel a bit weird if I sleep on his side of the bed…and the bed side table….

DH and I are planning on swapping sides soon and have been putting it off for as long as we can as we know it will feel weird 😄 I'm due in 2 weeks and the crib will only really fit one side and it's currently DH's side

maddiemookins16mum · 15/01/2022 08:46

@SallyGoLucky

Always!!

I always have to be furthest away from the door, anywhere I sleep!

Me too, so if a deranged, escaped killer breaks into the house then DH can fight them off (that’s our reasoning).
JugglingJanuary · 15/01/2022 08:50

@BugsyDrakeTableScape

I have friends who don't. It's weird and creepy and wrong. They claim it stems from when the kids were younger and whoever's turn it was to deal with them slept closer to the door, but that feels like a poor excuse to me
My friend is the similar. Whoever she's sharing with has to go nearest the door!! (To protect her which might have some validity when she's with her DH, but not with me!! (Applies to twin share rooms too, but it doesn't affect me as much as I'm in a single anyway).
Ruibies · 15/01/2022 08:52

We do at home (but this has changed in different homes over the years tbh) but if we're somewhere else then usually I'm closest to the bathroom, because I go in the night. My mother was horrified when she found out haha. We both sleep fine on both sides, I don't think either of us has a preference.

Youbelongherenow · 15/01/2022 08:57

I live alone and always sleep on my favourite side. I’ve tried the other and it just feels weird. My legs stray into the other side but I have to have my top half on my side to sleep.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 15/01/2022 08:59

Agree. Anyone that's doesn't is strange!

Haroweller · 15/01/2022 09:01

I have a side and even though my DH died 15 years ago I still sleep on ‘my side’.

Its a new bed too so ‘his side’ is almost untouched.

AliceMcK · 15/01/2022 09:02

I move sides. DH is happy sleeping anywhere so it’s down to me. I like sleeping next to an open window so I tend to sleep closest to a window, we also swapped round when I’m in pain and more recently I’ve started sleeping with an oxygen machine so when ever we go away i sleep where ever I can plug it in.

Babdoc · 15/01/2022 09:02

DH has been dead for 30 years, but I still only sleep on "my" side of our bed.
I am left handed and slept on the left, DH was right handed and slept on the right.
That meant that, lying on our sides, we each had our dominant arm free on top for cuddles!

BluebellsGreenbells · 15/01/2022 09:02

What is the left side?

If I stand at the bottom of the bed I sleep on the left. If we are sitting in bed reading, I’m on the right side.

Which is the correct term?

Squirrelblanket · 15/01/2022 09:02

We do, sort of. He sleeps closest to the door. So we're always on the same side at home but might be different sides somewhere else.

Nietzschethehiker · 15/01/2022 09:08

I'm not sure I could cope with knowing someone who didn't have sides of the bed , I mean surely its indicative of some form of evil ? (Lighthearted obviously I don't actually believe they would be evil)

He sleeps nearest the door, he will claim that its in case we were broken into, I claim its in case of zombies and we both know that it's pointless because frankly either should be far more worried about me than him.

We have been clear for years that we have more of a michonne from the walking dead and Ricky Gervais relationship. The zombie would be distracted by his presence while I was swinging the baseball bat Grin.

CounsellorTroi · 15/01/2022 09:10

Yes. DH’s side is always the one nearest the bathroom.

flippertyop · 15/01/2022 09:12

I actually find it gross that people swap sides. During the night people dribble on their pillows and sweat. I don't want to sleep on his bodily fluids thanks

Bitbloweyoutthere · 15/01/2022 09:18

I sleep on the left, facing out. In my last house this was nearest the door. In this house, it's nearest the window.

SwanShaped · 15/01/2022 09:18

No. Whoever is on kids duty sleeps near the door. Also I feel like my shoulder gets squashed when I sleep and like to change it around.

😂😂😂😂

Would Ricky laugh them to death?

Or would Rick Grimes pitch up to give them a moody stare?!

caringcarer · 15/01/2022 10:23

I always sleep on left next to window. If we stay in hotel I sometimes have to choose which I want the most, the left or the window.

nokidshere · 15/01/2022 10:25

We don't sleep in the same bed but we always sleep on the same side on the occasions that we do. Him on the left, me on the right.

thereisonlyoneofme · 15/01/2022 10:31

I always had the left side of the bed, mostly because its nearest the door and the loo! Now Im on my own with the whole bed to sprawl across I still mostly sleep on the left.

LindaEllen · 15/01/2022 10:32

We always have a side. I have to go to sleep on my left side, and we always fall asleep spooning, so me being on the other side wouldn't work.

MintyGreenDream · 15/01/2022 10:39

We do but we swapped over Xmas and it was ace like a treat Grin back to normal now

MintyGreenDream · 15/01/2022 10:40

@ImaginaryCat 🤣

WeeHaggisFace · 15/01/2022 10:44

I have noticed recently that in most male/female couples that the female seems to nearly always be the one who sleeps on the side closest to the door. Would love to know if that is really the case.....

Just casually creeping into people's bedrooms at night?

nettytree · 15/01/2022 10:46

The first night we spent together I slept on the right side of the bed. Hated it. So next morning I said we had to switch or it was over.
