If there was an election tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Obviously the Tories are a complete shitshow, but Labour aren’t a lot better and I couldn’t hand on heart vote for either in good conscience right now.

So… IF a snap election was called, like in December 2019, who would you vote for? Would it make a difference to you if Boris was replaced as Tory leader? Would you even bother voting or maybe go for a totally different national or local party?

Just curious!

@Pyewhacket

Conservative, the alternative is too awful to think about.
Surely every woman will be voting Tory.
soisealta · 12/01/2022 21:48

@User135644 Nope. There are other issues massively affecting women and children you know! Anyone care about the two child policy, the rape clause?

MrsMoastyToasty · 12/01/2022 21:51

Monster Raving Looney Party or an independent.

(Our local MP is Rees-Mogg).

layna12 · 12/01/2022 21:51

Labour.

OnTheBoardwalk · 12/01/2022 21:52

I honestly do not know. I’m in a position where I currently couldn’t vote as there is no one I would vote for and that makes me upset

User3456 · 12/01/2022 21:53

I would vote for whoever is most likely to beat the Conservatives in my area.
For me, now, that's Labour.
But I would consider any of Labour, Lib Dem, Green, maybe an independent depending on what their policies are and their chances of winning. Possibly Plaid if in Wales. Possibly SNP if I was in Scotland (although I don't want Scotland or Wales to leave us, I don't want a Tory government either and don't blame them if they want to go, if that makes sense).
I think we have got a good chance of getting at least a hung parliament, which would mean Keir Starmer needing to work with other parties. That might mean positive policy changes such as proportional representation. It might also mean a Scottish referendum which I have mixed feelings on (see above...).
I would be happy with an outright Labour win, or a hung parliament. I can't see any other options actually happening (eg Lib Dems or Greens getting an outright win).
Anyone who has reservations about Keir Starmer, or Labour, please please look at the absolute shit show we have now and vote to get them out. Nothing can be worse than what we have now.
Vote tactically! Tories out etc etc.

Frazzled2207 · 12/01/2022 21:53

I will always vote tactically against the Tory Party. Which round here is usually Lib Dem.

If we had PR I’d vote green. Or possibly Labour.

Kshhuxnxk · 12/01/2022 21:54

Sadly no one. I'm mortified to say I am not going to vote.

Frazzled2207 · 12/01/2022 21:55

Would it not make more sense to vote for whoever is most likely to beat the Mogg?
Kshhuxnxk · 12/01/2022 21:55

@grannyjacob

I’m in Scotland, in an SNP stronghold, so my vote has essentially been “wasted” for years. I don’t support the fight for Independence, plus Nicole Sturgeon is rabidly pro self-ID (she outright lied today about how the country voted SNP at the last election, so proving they obviously supported this. No, people vote SNP because of the Independence issue). All the other main parties except the Conservatives are also pro self-ID, but I really don’t think I could bring myself to vote Conservative. I voted Green and/or Liberal Democrat for many years, and still favour many points in their respective manifestos. For the first time in 50 years of voting, I’d almost certainly abstain, but feel incredibly guilty for doing so.
I'm in Scotland too and feel terrible but I won't be voting for anyone now.
WarmSeaSwimmer · 12/01/2022 21:58

Labour.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 12/01/2022 21:59

I care less about parties at number 10 or otherwise and more about who has been given carte blance to use the pandemic as an opportunity to line their pockets at the tax payers expense. That would really get my moral radar blinking, especially if people high up have benifited as a result.
There is being an amoral twat and being an amoral twat who has made money, whilst the rest of the population suffered.

UltraVividLament · 12/01/2022 21:59

I don't want to vote for any of the main 3 parties any more, nor the greens or any of the other smaller parties. I would usually vote tactically to try to oppose the Cons, but where I am that would involve voting Lib Dem which I really don't want to do. Reasons being their beliefs about women and women's rights.

So.. if there was a rational, centrist, independent candidate I might vote for them.

OverByYer · 12/01/2022 22:02

@NoWordForFluffy

The Women's Equality Party seem to believe that 'women' includes 'men who call themselves women'.

I have nobody to vote for. We only had the three main parties at the last GE. I'm hoping we get a GC independent next time.

Crossing WEP off my list as well

I’ve just been looking at actual votes from 2 years ago:

Conservative: 13,966,454
Labour: 10,269,051
Lib Dem: 3,696,419
SNP: 1,242,380
Green: 835,597
Brexit Party: 644,257
All other parties received

Labour, with no hesitation. I campaigned for Corbyn during the last two GEs and while not a fan of Starmer I would still prefer a Labour majority.

Guineapigssweak · 12/01/2022 22:10

I shall never vote again. All liars and have absolutely no understanding of peoples struggles with day to day life.

Kendodd · 12/01/2022 22:12

Surely every woman will be voting Tory

What including all the women and their children the Tories have pushed into poverty and food bank use?

hivemindneeded · 12/01/2022 22:12

Lib Dems. They aren't exactly sparkling but I don't trust Labour and absolutely despise the Tories with all my heart. Ideally a Lib/Lab pact with Labour putting the spending back into services and national infrastructure and Libs preventing them from some of their more outlandish policies with a bit of centerist balance.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 12/01/2022 22:12

I do think the Conservatives have played a blinder with their stance on womens rights, they have had two female prime ministers, have Labour or the Lib Dems ever had a female leader ? And if not, why not ?
Are the Conservatives big on Womens rights ? Largely I think they are about as misogynistic as you can get, but at least misogynists recognise that women are women, whilst slapping their arses.

Chloemol · 12/01/2022 22:17

I wouldn’t vote

Firawla · 12/01/2022 22:17

The rest are worse, so conservative - I can not stand labours views on tighter Covid restrictions and self ID issues and Lib Dem are no better.
If they brought Corbyn back then Labour would become a better option for me. The current Labour party stands for nothing.
I don’t agree with all conservative policies but they currently are my least worst option

awesomekilick · 12/01/2022 22:20

Have always a voted Labour. For a zillion years. Spoilt ballot paper at last election. Probably will do so again. It's heartbreaking. (Can't vote Labour cos of their position on women)

soisealta · 12/01/2022 22:20

They do more than slap their arses @Wrongkindofovercoat - they make them disclose, fill out, and sign a potentially retraumatising form, declaring that they have been raped (including domestic violence victims trying to leave), and force them to get a medical professional to sign it - in order to claim any benefits to clothe and feed their 3rd or subsequent child.

They also make any woman leaving domestic violence and having to claim - and their children - have zero money to live on during the 5 week wait for any benefits - unless they take out a 'loan' from them (no choice), which is then deducted from further payments for a year.

The Tories brought all these changes in - the past decade.

But it doesn't matter to some women - they still vote Tory - because it doesn't affect them.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 12/01/2022 22:34

I am suprised by all those who are saying they won't vote. You are voting for your representative in Parliament, the person you think will vote with your particular areas best interests at heart.

How many people have contacted their MP about a local issue ? I have and they have been very helpful, because that is their job, that is what they get paid to do. I have contacted them about national issues and they have replied, I might not agree with their stance, but I am making them work for that salary. Make yours work for theirs Wink
