How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

@DillonPanthersTexas

Have to confess the whole idea of a sink wash and all the faff that involves is an odd choice given that you can be squeaky clean with a quick 5 min shower. Anyway, why would you want to deal with skiddy flannels post wash ?
You can use a flannel or just your hands or something else, just like in the shower.
HacerSonarSusPasos · 20/01/2022 19:55

@Gwenhwyfar but in the shower you wouldn't be spreading tiny droplets of poopy water all over the sink and bathroom floor.

Wow we're back to poo droplets 🤣🤣🤣

Cheekypeach · 20/01/2022 20:25

Not being ableist, I’m disabled myself.

But as we’re discussing it, I’m just asking.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/01/2022 20:27

"in the shower you wouldn't be spreading tiny droplets of poopy water all over the sink and bathroom floor."

Just all over the shower or bath if your shower is inside a bath.

Why would I make my life harder by having a sink wash if I found showering easier?

Uhmm the shower/bath is a contained area and it all goes down the drain when you shower. When you wash at the sink you might end up with droplets all over you toothbrush/hairbrush/soap dispenser and whatever else you usually keep near the sink. It's really not quite the same thing.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 20/01/2022 20:36

@HacerSonarSusPasos I don't keep anything on or near my sink. So I think I'm save. Even though my whole household manages to wipe their arses without leaving shit all over the place.

I feel sorry for you I really do. I'd hate to be so bothered about germs. I bet its such a restricting life.

VanGoghsDog · 20/01/2022 21:52

I don't have a shower cubicle. So I don't step into a cubicle. And my shower doesn't have buttons.

It's almost like we live different lives and in different houses! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Worried456776 · 20/01/2022 21:52

I’m sorry but I don’t know how anyone can leave the house without washing I feel dirty when I wake up I shower every day and sometimes twice.

Noone at all has said at any point that they leave the house without washing. So, your comment makes zero sense.

Maybe read the thread. Then you'll be able to read other people's reasons and opinions

And. I do wash, just don't shower.
Gwenhwyfar · 20/01/2022 22:02

"Uhmm the shower/bath is a contained area and it all goes down the drain when you shower."

Do you hose down the walls every time then?

VanGoghsDog · 20/01/2022 22:03

Why do people create poopy droplets in the shower (from poo that has presumably sat there all night...), don't they wipe their arses when they poo?

doyouwantachuffedybadge · 20/01/2022 22:09

Lucky people who have a shower!

Pikaso · 20/01/2022 22:16

Twice a day every day.

Showering only 3 times a week is gross, I can’t get my head around that, don’t you feel mucky?

Grilledaubergines · 20/01/2022 22:17

Normal is what’s normal for you. If you’re clean enough and don’t want to every day, that’s only your business.

My normal is that I have to shower twice a day, sometimes 3 times in the summer if it’s hot as I have a skin condition but if I didn’t have that, it’d be once a day I’d imagine.

VanGoghsDog · 20/01/2022 22:24

No, obviously not. Also, I wash.

Plenty of people agree with the op. Showering every other day is completely fine.

VanGoghsDog · 20/01/2022 22:45
@VanGoghsDog are you the OP?
FFS! No. Lots of people don't see the need to shower every day.

Even the NHS says twice a week is enough to stay clean: www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/practical-tips-if-you-care-for-someone/how-to-help-someone-you-care-for-keep-clean/#:~:text=wash%20their%20face%20every%20day,their%20teeth%20twice%20a%20day

Eh?
CorvusPurpureus · 20/01/2022 23:43

I live in a country where the shataf is standard, so my vulva gets power washed every time I urinate & my anus every time I defecate, to be blunt about it.

My nethers are spotless!

That leaves my armpits & feet, both of which currently smell of the soap I used in the shower 18 hours ago. I've just given them both a good sniff on the basis of this thread. They're definitely good to go.

I shower every other day because my hair looks better for it, & wash the rest of myself whilst I'm at it, but I'm pretty confident I don't whiff.

In about 3 months time it'll be 40 degrees here so I'll be showering briefly at least once a day if only to rinse off pool chlorine, but a whole body daily shower in cold weather seems decidedly excessive.
