Do you shower before going to the gym in the morning?

For those of you who get up and go straight to the gym; do you shower at home beforehand?

I always jump in to the shower for a quick freshen up before leaving the house and heading to the gym. I then have a “proper” shower, including hair washing, after my gym session before getting in with my day.

There are some people at the gym who I actively avoid standing near as they have a “musty” smell and I don’t like to be around it.

So, AIBU to assume that it’s polite (can’t think of a better word) to shower before the gym even if it is the first thing you’re going to do that day?

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Why why why are people getting up to go to the gym at 4:45?

This is the middle of the night! What time do you go to bed?’

So I can go before work, gives me time to get it done, showered and logged on for 8am 😊 I'm in bed around 9:30/10 at the latest, definitely not a night owl 😂
DillDanding · 11/01/2022 13:54

Yes. Always. Partly for cleaning, partly to wake me up.

I can smell the people at my spinning class that have just rolled out of bed. Not BO at all; they have a particular vaguely fusty smell. I can also smell some people’s rotten breath - that awful stomach breath some get.

LHommeRose · 11/01/2022 13:55

Hell no
Smells never hurt anyone. Waste of water, waste of TIME! Water is so drying on my skin too.

emmathedilemma · 11/01/2022 14:05

Good grief, no!! I don't even shower in the morning if I'm working from home and going to the gym later!

rainbowandglitter · 11/01/2022 16:30

People that shower 2 or 3 times a day otherwise they'll smell must have medical conditions surely? I have the most sensitive sense of smell that anyone has ever known but me and DH have one shower each a day (and we gym and run) and neither of us smells, never have done.

BitcherOfBlakiven · 11/01/2022 16:33

Absolutely fucking not.

I already get up at 5:30am so me and 3DC are ready to leave the house at 7:30am, allowing me time to go to the gym, shower before going to lectures

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/01/2022 16:41

I take From the amount of horrified people on here who shudder at the thought of having more than one shower a day.. haven’t been through the menopause where you wake up drenched in sweat several times a night, or have hot flushes many times a day during the height of summer!! 🙄🙄

dementedpixie · 11/01/2022 16:43

I think I'm in perimenopause and I must sweat in the night. No way am I putting clean clothes on over my sweaty pits so I have a quick wash of pits and bits before going to my classes. It's easier and less messy to have a quick wash in the shower than stand at the sink

BitcherOfBlakiven · 11/01/2022 16:46

I’ve showered twice a day when on a medication that made me sweat constantly - Amitryptylene I’m looking at you - just river running down my back 24/7, ridiculous.

At the time when I was complaining, my Grandmother did say “At least you’ve got a taste of what the meno has for you”

Seems she wasn’t wrong @dementedpixie @Dontsayyouloveme !

I don’t now because I’m no longer on that medication and only sweat when I’m actually at the gym, thank fuck.

Anonymous48 · 11/01/2022 16:46

Why would I shower before going to the gym first thing in the morning? That's ridiculous. Do you not get sweaty a couple of minutes into your workout? If not, you're not doing it right.

Chely · 11/01/2022 16:47

Do I heck. We have a home set up though so sometimes I rock up in my PJ's 🤣🤣

sunnybunnyy · 11/01/2022 18:07

Yes I definitely do, It wakes me up and I prefer it, I wouldn't have anything against someone not showering but i prefer to, even if my class is at 6.30am, it only takes 5 minutes

Iceywinterwonderland · 11/01/2022 19:41

No I don't

georgarina · 11/01/2022 19:46

No, that's like brushing your teeth before breakfast and then brushing them again after

Dontsayyouloveme · 12/01/2022 12:28

georgarina so when you stay in a hotel, you go down for breakfast amongst other hotel guests, with morning breath? 😩

rainbowandglitter · 12/01/2022 12:58

I go down for breakfast in a hotel without brushing my teeth. How bad is your morning breath if guests sitting at other tables can smell it?

Dontsayyouloveme · 12/01/2022 13:02

rainbowandglitter 😂😂

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 13:02

I brush my teeth after breakfast. I don’t want minty coffee. I tend not to snog them other hotel guests so I think I’m probably ok.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/01/2022 13:13

Oh the question of whether to brush teeth before hotel breakfast has always foxed me! I definitely want them brushed after though!

dementedpixie · 12/01/2022 13:25

I brush before breakfast. I dont rebrush afterwards

DillDanding · 12/01/2022 22:32

My dentist has told my kids many times over the years that you must brush your teeth before you eat breakfast, unless you have at least 30 minutes to wait after eating.
