Do you shower before going to the gym in the morning?

For those of you who get up and go straight to the gym; do you shower at home beforehand?

I always jump in to the shower for a quick freshen up before leaving the house and heading to the gym. I then have a “proper” shower, including hair washing, after my gym session before getting in with my day.

There are some people at the gym who I actively avoid standing near as they have a “musty” smell and I don’t like to be around it.

So, AIBU to assume that it’s polite (can’t think of a better word) to shower before the gym even if it is the first thing you’re going to do that day?

Nope but I always shower daily

Pikaso · 10/01/2022 22:50

Bet there’s a load of smelly shoes in some houses

Pensieve · 10/01/2022 22:50

No.

Youhaveyourhandsfull · 10/01/2022 22:51

If I go for a run sometimes I stop in the middle for a shower, then have another one when I get home.

LH1987 · 10/01/2022 22:51

I can’t say I am the most environmentally conscious person, but showering twice in what must be a couple of hours period seems very excessive!

Cocopogo · 10/01/2022 22:55

Nevermind the shower, why are people getting up in the middle of the night to go to the gym?

Oh god I just realised I've actually done this! GrinBlush

(Running on the seafront on a really day, I stopped midway and got under one of the showers designed to get sand and salt off. It was bliss)

SocksAndTheCity · 10/01/2022 22:56

@damekindness

I always go unwashed in the morning - the showers at my gym are way better than mine and I feel like I get value for money for my fairly extortionate membership by showering there
Mine too! I showered there tonight after running, a class and then swimming (shower before pool and sauna after before proper shower and home), and I've just set out clean gym clothes for tomorrow.

I'm not doing anything to get dirty between now and my 0715 class, more's the pity Sad

pollygartertidywife · 10/01/2022 22:56

Completely excessive.

.. and no one 'smells musty' from not having a shower for twenty four hours. ..

I’ve had a shower mid gym before. Shower when I got up, go to gym, shower before a swim, shower after a swim and then shower before bed that night.
grooveonthemove · 10/01/2022 22:58

I get up at half past ten at night, half an hour before I've gone to bed to wash my hair ready for t'gym... LUXURY!

24 hours?? That’s gross - I’m pretty sure I’d stink and would be sticking to the furniture 🤮
B0J0ker · 10/01/2022 23:01

Have none of you heard of the Febreze walk through? Perfect solution to all smells, takes no time at all AND saves on time and water.
Grin

BadLad · 10/01/2022 23:06

A shower is the first thing I do, no matter what time I get up. Can't feel awake without it. So I have one whether I'm going to the gym or not.

I have one before bed too. Don't want all the dirt and grime from the day in my bed.

Thirtytimesround · 10/01/2022 23:11

Wow! So many gross stinky people on here!!

I don’t leave the house without having showered OP, no. (I also don’t return to a thread.)

Interesting insight into the state of the nation though. 🤢

Mariposista · 10/01/2022 23:12

I am the exact same as you. I don’t necessarily think I’m ‘unclean’ when I wake up, but a quick shower (usually under a minute) wakes me up and gets me ready for my workout.

This! Especially comments about not showering for 24 hours! Must be some stinky houses around
HangingOver · 10/01/2022 23:16

If I'm doing a 6.30 class my eyes and barely open, let alone having a pointless shower

HPLikecraft · 10/01/2022 23:19

Don't Look Up!

Alas, those to whom that was directed are the ones who think that that is a film about the unlikely scenario of a comet colliding with the earth.

SocksAndTheCity · 10/01/2022 23:37

Anybody who genuinely 'stinks' after twenty four hours without a shower - assuming they don't work in sewage treatment or on a pig farm - must have one truly shit diet.

lborgia · 10/01/2022 23:52

It's not just about diet. It's about the microbes on your skin!

If you wash them off a lot, you end up with the stinky ones taking over.

Like antibiotics wiping out good bugs as well as bad, and then getting c.diff. and very sick.

Obviously that's an extreme analogy, but you see what I mean. The more I wash, or the harsher the shower gel, the more I need to wash. Much better now with bar soap, but still too much.

Northernsoullover · 11/01/2022 00:06

Ah good old mumsnet. You can guarantee that if you admit to not showering you'll be told you stink and don't know it. Because these superior sniffers can smell what others can't. If you smell someone less than fresh you have no idea when their last shower was. Chances are it was more than a day ago.

lborgia · 11/01/2022 00:16

I am a super sniffer, but absolutely do not judge anyone else! My point was that because I'm dealing with this bloody curse all day, it makes me more worried about my own smell.

I recognise that most people smell the right amount and it's entirely my issue to deal with!

I also can't stand air freshener, febreze, incense, and many perfumes. It's not exclusively about "bad" smells!

nalabae · 11/01/2022 00:25

No I put on spray though. I’ve never had issues with smelling though

Figgyboa · 11/01/2022 01:42

No way...waste of time and water!
