interesting thread about the time stamps on the testing certificates

Tealightsandd · 11/01/2022 21:13

According to my family in Australia, their opinion is shared by an awful lot of people over there.

AlternativePerspective · 11/01/2022 21:24

Well it seems that even the Serbian government are beginning to turn against him.

How many of you are saying teamAustralia who did not dislike Djokovic in the first place? Right or wrong the amount of vitriol and plain gleeful malice he is receiving in Western and Anglo Saxon media in particular is sad to see and makes one wonder…certainly the WASP elite in Australia are not renowned for their love of the Balkans.

I didn't dislike him before, I thought he had some daft notions but was a great tennis player. I thought the timeline looked unbelievable, apparently that puts me in the same camp as people who are malicious and anti the whole of the Balkans!

As you're clearly supportive of his actions, do you think he a) went out while knowingly infectious, or b) lied about having covid to get into Australia? Whichever you pick, please explain why you think that's the behaviour of a decent human, thanks.

milkyaqua · 11/01/2022 23:44

I think it's more people don't like wankers, liars, or cheats.

I am Scottish. If Andy Murray had gone trying to avoid the rules, claimed he had covid on the 16th and was reported at photo opportunities with children in Scotland the day after, I would have been seriously less impressed with him as he represents Scotland.

I am astounded even Djokovics country is supporting him so strongly.

Tealightsandd · 12/01/2022 00:54

How ridiculous to lump not just all the many and varied residents of one country together as one, but to go even further and assume a whole region is a homogeneous group of clones.

Not Balkan but a near neighbour is Hungary. Here's what Hungarian tennis player, Marton Fucsovics has to say on the issue:

Novak Djokovic has ‘no right’ to be in Australia and compete in the Australian Open, according to Wimbledon quarter-finalist Marton Fucsovics.

Fucsovics insisted the news that the world number one had received an exemption was poorly received by many players.

I hate tennis, I have no interest at all, so bar this recent stuff, I had no real idea who he was or cared. Other than him being a rabid antivaxxer & thinking the rules didn't apply to him as he was such a big man.

We have long time old friends who emigrated to Australia last year, we love them to bits & wish them well, but unfortunately they are also now rabid Quanon antivaxxers & even refer to themselves as "pure bloods"🥴 I can no longer talk to them & DH bites his lip & changes the subject. They bought the most expensive flights they could on their way out there, thinking maskless antivaxxers with money would get less hassle & were very flash about it too.

They got exactly the same flack at the airport & full quarantine. We were equally gleeful that their antivaxx bollocks wasn't acceptable no matter how much they spent. So nope, it's the arrogant arsed antivax bollocks only AFAIC

BeaLola · 12/01/2022 01:10

I was not a fan of his before this debacle despite loving tennis and watching it/going to tournaments as much as I can - yes he is supremely talented, yes he has grafted, trained, adapted his lifestyle and is a supreme athlete etc etc

However when I have seen him play he didn't endear himself to me - his behaviour wasn't sportsmanlike and I didn't warm to him - I probably wouldn't be his cup of tea either if he met me.

However he is a global star and kids look up to him.

I can believe that he has a team of people just to look after tournament admin like arranging his flights, hotels/houses to stay in, visas to enter countries etc - at best they messed up and at worst they lied, seriously bent the truth etc- maybe Novak is so focused on winning and being the No 1 title holder in history that he knew nothing about the day to day detail - however in a global pandemic he could either get vaccinated like 99% of the other players taking part or stay home - it's not hard but obviously being the next "Jesus " or whatever his Father reportedly said makes him above the rules that apply to everyone else

Roussette · 12/01/2022 07:06

He's put out a statement now. Saying that yes, he did wrong for the photoshoot because he knew he had covid.
But with the Tennis Academy and being surrounded by kids, he reckons he didn't know he was positive.
I find that really hard to believe.
The Lab knew at 8pm the previous day. Do I have to believe that probably the top sportsman in the world wouldn't be notified immediately that he was positive for covid?
It just doesn't ring true.

And the missing out the fact on his immigration form that he had travelled to two other countries in the 14 days prior was 'human error'.

Isolation breach, incorrect travel declarations, and inconsistency around when he learnt of his positive result.

All I know is... if this came to light with me, I would be deported. That's it.

I am a bit out of the gossip world and I had no idea about ND previous declaration and ideas. I watched him playing several times and I found him a superb tennist, so I had a positive idea of him.

But this is all wrong.
He either faked the test result or broke the isolation rule. Plus he lied on a very simple Yes/No question.

Considering how many restrictions we had to endure due to covid and he is there going and flying around with a positive test result....

marykitty · 12/01/2022 07:08

@Roussette well said

MyOtherProfile · 12/01/2022 07:10

He had no idea he has covid the day after he was confirmed positive and was posing for photos with people. That's what they just quoted on radio 4. That's so clearly a lie - no idea when it had just been confirmed? Disgraceful.

Mumsnet has always been xenophobia central. It's 100% behind the more outlandish replies here.

You now have people here soiling themselves with delight at the idea of his catching covid in Australia.

That's really fucked up IMO.

Sirzy · 12/01/2022 07:13

I don’t think either party have come out of this looking good really! Completely farcical

milkyaqua · 12/01/2022 07:30

Ana Brnabić, the fabulous Serbian Prime Minister, does not seem impressed by his flouting Serbian isolation rules.

SirChenjins · 12/01/2022 07:56

So he’s now blaming his agent for the balls up over the paperwork and admits he broke Serbian isolation rules.

Less xenophobia and more recognising an arrogant a-hole.

I don't want someone who breaks isolation when covid positive* as to not let down a photographer in my country let alone my city.

I have zero confidence if he tests positive on a RAT while here he will withdraw and isolate.

*Allegations being discussed in the media of the validity of these results.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 12/01/2022 08:47

He should do the right thing, withdraw and go home. But I don’t expect he will as he’s so hell bent on winning another Open.
I can’t imagine the other players are very impressed with his antics at the moment

PlanktonsComputerWife · 12/01/2022 08:52

I can't imagine the other players would mind losing an opponent very likely to beat them, no.

Most professional participants of any sport would want to win fairly. No-one likes or respects a cheat.

Are you his mum

He's been World #1 for something like six or seven years running. Fairly sure not only his mum thinks he's a formidable player.
