Novak, he shouldn't be treated specially. If he can't adhere to Aussie rules then he should expect not to be admitted

Svara · 06/01/2022 18:52

@Exhausteddog

I think they are both unreasonable. Australian rules seem incredibly harsh and unreasonable. However he is unreasonable to think they don't apply to him.
This. Should be the same rules for all, the rich or famous shouldn't get a free pass. Though I don't agree with the rules.
Howareyouflower · 06/01/2022 18:59

One of the problems with being anti-vaxx is that some places do not want you, quite rightly!

CMZ2018 · 06/01/2022 19:26

If you don’t like the rules of a country don’t visit it or move there.

TurquoiseDress · 06/01/2022 19:27

Novax!

Whatafustercluck · 06/01/2022 19:34

Rules is rules, whoever you are.

TurquoiseDress · 06/01/2022 19:38

I'm obsessed with this story!Grin

Have been checking news apps intermittently throughout the day to see the updates

Working from home has taken a backseat somewhat!

BaconAndAvocado · 06/01/2022 19:42

@ilovesooty

His parents are entitled nobs and the apple evidently didn't fall far from the tree. Send him back.
This.
LaQuern · 06/01/2022 19:45

Team Aus.

He's a dick

Scrabblecrabapple · 06/01/2022 19:45

He’s not above the rules just because he can play tennis!

Not even if he can play it really really well? Grin

emuloc · 06/01/2022 19:46

Should have kept his vaccine status to himself. It is his business.

Clymene · 06/01/2022 20:06

But it isn't if he wants to go to Australia

Just for clarity again - Tennis Australia is a sports body. It can't issue visas. The State of Victoria can't issue visas. Only the Federal government can issue visas. Our Prime Minister is shallow and dramatically incompetent and this shitshow is consistent with everything else he does.
Novak should get vaccinated if he wants to come.
The current Covid situation in Australia apart from WA is a mess. Huge case numbers, tests hard to obtain and hospitals not coping.

Againstmachine · 06/01/2022 20:27

I can't wait for the episode on nothing to declare on sky with Novak.

blubberyboo · 06/01/2022 21:20

Even vaccinated it’s a bit of a minefield navigating the rules getting into a country and home again.
Therefore if I was unvaccinated trying to get into Australia I would be damn sure that every T was crossed on my paperwork before I set off.

Australia didn’t even allow its own citizens to come home during the pandemic so it’s a bit pathetic for the rich man’s parents to be protesting that he is being held as some sort of prisoner. He’s in quarantine just like the position many poorer people found themselves in all around the world.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 06/01/2022 21:27

@JogooRoad

He has always come across as being quite an arrogant man. I think he has brought this on himself. I have absolutely no evidence for what I am about to say, but I have a suspicion that if he had kept his mouth shut he would have probably been allowed into the country with no issues. A blind eye would have been turned. Australia are obviously going to want the big names at their grand slam. Instead he chose to post quite a triumphant/cocky post on social media about getting a medical exemption.

This obviously raised the heckles of most Australians who have been living under such onerous border controls for over two years, prevented from leaving/entering for funerals in some cases...

We reap what we sow.

I liked Nadal's reaction to all this. He comes across as a humble, gentle person and far more likeable. A class act.

Totally agree with all of this. He just seems a deeply unpleasant, arrogant man with very dodgy views on quite a lot of things. Mind you, when you see how his father acts, it's not hard to see where he gets his attitude from.

(Off topic, but I adore Nadal. One of my favourite stories about him is how after winning Wimbledon, he flew home the next day on easyjet).

Rules are rules. Doesn't matter who he is. He couldn't produce the necessary exemption evidence then he's being deported! He's not above a country's rules.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2022 22:28

Watching the news, his family are clearly as bonkers as he is. “The Spartacus of the New World”, “we are hoping he can stay strong”, “it’s inhuman”.

Aw, poor baby has to stay in a bog standard hotel for 4 days. Must be tortuous.

Good. Rafa Nadal got it absolutely right. I hope the Australian Govt. sticks to its guns and deports him on Monday. Idiot.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/01/2022 22:30

Should have kept his vaccine status to himself. It is his business“

🤣

It quite literally isn’t if he wants to travel.

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/01/2022 23:08

From The Times:
"Srdjan Djokovic, 61, has described his son as a “leader of the free world” and said that he was being “held captive”. He said: “Novak is Serbia and Serbia is Novak. They are trampling over Serbia and by doing that, they are trampling on the Serbian people."

I think your dad talking about you as if you are some sort of god explains Novak's sense of entitlement!

From Daily Mail:
"Read the bombshell letter at the centre of Novak Djokovic drama warning he could face a problem at the border - and it was sent a MONTH before he landed in Australia"

If you want to enter a country, you have to abide by their entry criteria. Their country, their choice.

Clymene · 06/01/2022 23:20

In the interview I heard with his dad, they had taken everything but his mobile. He doesn't even have any clean pants.

I predict a Serbo-Ozzie war

🤣

He has a sink and soap, presumably? As does everyone in the quarantine hotel.

Unless he opens new pants every day and doesn’t understand that they can be washed?
