Disgusted by excessive Xmas treats!

My kids are doing a final clear up before going back to school tomorrow, and 8yo trotted off to fetch her Xmas sweet haul which she had forgotten about and therefore barely touched.

Seeing it all laid out I am absolutely astounded by the amount of chocolate/sweets she has accumulated. (Even more horrified to realise that 5yo currently has a pile half this size despite receiving the same stuff as her elder sister!) This is over the last month alone. She also has two large tins full of the sweets she's been given at parties and Hallowe'en etc. I don't think our friends or family are particularly big on sweets so guess lots of little or one-off things have just accumulated.

AIBU to be a bit taken aback by the amount she's received? And what do other people do with it all? I don't think she'll get through it all but seems a waste to bin it.

Who will be the first? Grin

FlibbertyGibbitt · 04/01/2022 14:56

Eat it while they’re at school or in bed 🥳

19lottie82 · 04/01/2022 14:56

Disgusted? Horrified? Really? 😂

BabyofMine · 04/01/2022 14:56

Is this serious?! Whilst I don’t recommend letting them eat it all at once, I think you’re being ridiculous.

LampLighter414 · 04/01/2022 14:57

Why all the shock horror?

Ration it out as treats/desserts over the next few weeks?

Nacknick · 04/01/2022 14:58

Seriously? Horrified?

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 04/01/2022 14:58

How did you not know?

Here we put everything into a box in the kitchen and they are eaten as treats over the course of weeks/months.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/01/2022 14:59

That doesn't seem a huge amount tbh! Surely she can have it over a couple of weeks.

You could make rice crispy cakes with some of the choc melted down.

But of she isn't a fan then I see no issue with throwing if away.

GorgonzolaSouffle · 04/01/2022 14:59

Let her have a treat after school every day

Restart10 · 04/01/2022 15:00

A bit overdramatic. But I honestly don't think it's as much as you are so horrified by. It is alot for her to eat but surely you just share it out with everyone over time.

StrifeOfBath · 04/01/2022 15:00

Chuck the cheap sweets in the bottom R jar, candy cane and possibly the choc lolly.

Put the P Pigs in the food bank box.

Eat the rest as and when without making a drama of how ‘disgusting’ confectionary is.

WorraLiberty · 04/01/2022 15:02

'A bit taken aback' = YANBU

'Disgusted'

'Astounded'

'Horrified'

Have you considered working for the Daily Mail? Assuming you don't already that is.

DirectionToPerfection · 04/01/2022 15:02

It's not that much, bloody hell. Just ration it out over time.

Sounds like you have an odd attitude to food.

girlmom21 · 04/01/2022 15:02

How will she not get through that when she's clearly already had half the selection box?

ApolloandDaphne · 04/01/2022 15:02

That's not really such a lot. Back in my day a haul like that at Christmas would have been viewed as miserly! That amount of sweets will not even last until Easter!

dementedpixie · 04/01/2022 15:03

Half of them are tiny and barely a mouthful. A small amount each day and it'll be gone

Cocomarine · 04/01/2022 15:03

“absolutely astounded”
🤣🤣🤣

Did you forget to attach some more photos?

14 items, several of them very small.

That’s hardly anything!

As for even talking about binning them - that’s shameful. If you don’t want them, food bank. My tip though is all year round keep a tub for “unwanted” sweets (we had loads from party bags as my child didn’t like many) and pull that out for callers on Hallowe’en.

AllLopsided · 04/01/2022 15:03

The best before date is probably at least 6 months away so she has plenty of time to eat it!

PinkPomeranian · 04/01/2022 15:03

Well no, I'm not really horrified but that does seem to be the best way to get a response here. Wink

I'm more surprised by the amount and wondering what other people do with it all. She really won't get through it all, and the rest of us have received our own generous amounts as well. So really I'm asking what you do with all the excess, and how to manage the amount coming in. I'd rather it didn't go to waste.

As it hasn't all been scoffed I would say she obviously has a healthy and self regulating attitude to food and let her crack on.

Fatgalslim · 04/01/2022 15:04

Bloody hell, calm your farm it's a bit of bloody chocolate, no-one's asking her to eat it all at once just spread it out over the next few weeks

MrsFizziwig · 04/01/2022 15:04

Offer to buy it from her and then donate it to the local food bank.

Cocomarine · 04/01/2022 15:05

Nice backtrack 🤣 You really can’t work out what to do with the excess yourself?
