Disgusted by excessive Xmas treats!

My kids are doing a final clear up before going back to school tomorrow, and 8yo trotted off to fetch her Xmas sweet haul which she had forgotten about and therefore barely touched.

Seeing it all laid out I am absolutely astounded by the amount of chocolate/sweets she has accumulated. (Even more horrified to realise that 5yo currently has a pile half this size despite receiving the same stuff as her elder sister!) This is over the last month alone. She also has two large tins full of the sweets she's been given at parties and Hallowe'en etc. I don't think our friends or family are particularly big on sweets so guess lots of little or one-off things have just accumulated.

AIBU to be a bit taken aback by the amount she's received? And what do other people do with it all? I don't think she'll get through it all but seems a waste to bin it.

Disgusted by excessive Xmas treats!

Come on. It's a nice bit but between you all would that not be eaten over the next while ???

ThinkingtheUnthinkable · 04/01/2022 15:15

Well, it does have to last them until the next great confectionary bonanza of Easter, yes ?

cantgetmyheadroundit · 04/01/2022 15:15

@fairylightsandwaxmelts

most of the chocolate seems to have an 03/22 BBE.

You do know it won't explode or turn green at midnight on the 22nd, right? It may not taste as brilliant once it's past BBE date but it will be perfectly fine to eat.

Also, is it just me who thinks there really isn't that much there? Blush

No, you're not the only one. I could eat that lot in a couple of hours 🤣
VividImaginationAgain · 04/01/2022 15:16

Of course it’s too much for her. Poor wee thing. Whatever you do don’t let it go to waste (or should I say waist). Let her keep the jars and send the chocolate and Percy Pigs to me!

CanofCant · 04/01/2022 15:16

@Wheelerdeeler

It's just as well you don't live in my house. The size of the haul would have stopped your heart
Same. I would take a photo but it wouldn't look as artistic as the OP's. DC1 still has sweets from Halloween. DC2 could polish off the photographed treats in an afternoon.

Melting it down for brownies, crispy cakes etc is a good idea.

SueSaid · 04/01/2022 15:17

Should see our stash op, top of the fridge has got a discusting amount of chocolate and biscuits. I'm bravely working my way through it, denying the kids any (thinking of their teeth).

It was christmas! we all get a load of crap to eat just be grateful there's no nasty pralines or similar in there so you can help her polish them off.

SlamCrump · 04/01/2022 15:17

Why not put it in a old biscuit tin and ration it out over the next few months?

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2022 15:18

Well no, I'm not really horrified but that does seem to be the best way to get a response here

Seemed to back fire, you got responses but just folks taking the piss out you for such a silly thread about a few sweets etc.

You even lined them up and took a photo 🤣

GalacticGoddess · 04/01/2022 15:18

Save it and ration it out over the next few weeks or months. I would personally take the Lindt Santa and eat that in the bath!

grapewine · 04/01/2022 15:18

YABVU for using "horrified and disgusted". It's like words have no meaning anymore.

Twobirdsinatree · 04/01/2022 15:18

It lasts for years? You don't need to chuck it, just keep it in a box in the cupboard and they can have some every now and again. Dont understand your drama you sound like a nan in WW2!

gluenotsoup · 04/01/2022 15:18

It’s not that much! Standard Christmas treats really. Mine ended up with a lot more than that. They’ve eaten some, the rest is in the cupboard for treats over the next however long. They don’t have it in place of proper food, so self regulate pretty well really. You might even spin it out til Easter!😂

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 04/01/2022 15:19

Id class that as a side snackette....... Wink

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 04/01/2022 15:19

Because if you do that, you can't start a thread about how horrified you are Grin
isitfree · 04/01/2022 15:19

FF's Your the parent, dish it out a bit at a time and stop being so over the top!

TheKeatingFive · 04/01/2022 15:19

Just ration it over the next few weeks, not a big deal.

Minniem2020 · 04/01/2022 15:19

Honestly op my 3 year olds haul is at least twice that amount, everyone must think he loves chocolate! We always end up melting it down eventually for crispy cakes like others have said

CasparBloomberg · 04/01/2022 15:20

DD’s Christmas treat haul lasts her until at least Easter usually. Add in treats from Easter and she’s got enough until late summer. As long as they don’t eat it all at once, I don’t see the issue. She’s developed amazing self control I wish I had at her age.

catmothertes1 · 04/01/2022 15:20

@TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr

How did you not know?

Here we put everything into a box in the kitchen and they are eaten as treats over the course of weeks/months.

Exactly what most people do.
LondonWolf · 04/01/2022 15:20

🙄

Crepusculum · 04/01/2022 15:20

Basket on sideboard for each DC - what doesn't get eaten by Easter probably isn't wanted (I've never had that happen though). DS's pile looks like it had barely been touched but I've pretty confident it will all be gone within a few weeks.

Mellowyellow222 · 04/01/2022 15:20

Please be careful. My mother was similar to you- exaggerated reactions to food.

I have struggled with eating disorders all my life.

Normski67 · 04/01/2022 15:21

You’d better help them out with it before they get the next haul at Easter then eh?

Earwigworries · 04/01/2022 15:21

Doesn’t look too much to me - ours normally goes in the kitchen cupboard and they gradually finish it up .. apart from this year … I asked them to take their presents up to their rooms as we needed space for elderly visitors .. and then wondered why no one wanted breakfast a couple of days later .. gone - all of it
