Using a potty in a restaurant

Went to a gastro pub over the Christmas break, quite a large open area where say 20 tables all in one room.

In the middle of this room, a couple having lunch had their toddler sitting on a potty, no trousers on. Clearly in early stages of potty training as the girl was sat their for ages (20+ mins), then the dad picked up the potty and carted it off to the toilets.

Is this not a bit much for a restaurant?

No that's not okay and I'm pretty liberal.

They should have taken the child into the toilets & then sat them on the potty.

Not just unreasonable in a gastro pub or a restaurant. Did no-one say anything?

PrincessNutella · 04/01/2022 21:09

Well, now I have heard everything.

No. Gross. I think travel potties in general are grim. If you're at the park, just whip them behind a tree. Better than sitting on a potty in the playground. If you have no idea of their cues but are desperate to train them, get a bloody takeaway.
I know someone who sat their kid down on one in the middle of a shop. Just no. NO.

What is wrong with some people?! It's just not okay.

Very lazy parenting, they wanted to eat in peace.I'd definitely have said something for the child's sake nobody elses.the parents would have been out straight.poor child.

VimFuego101 · 04/01/2022 22:42

Absolutely grim. When you start potty training you just need to resign yourself to camping out at home for a few days/ weeks until it clicks.

Cryalot2 · 04/01/2022 22:42

I would have complained to staff and followed it with an email.

The family could have requested a table near the toilets. It is not hygienic at all.

We rarely eat out and no way would we have found this acceptable . When you are out you are there to enjoy food not have a child wee or worse on a potty nearby..

I still would email the restaurant. I can't believe that staff let it happen. No excuse for parents like that

ThinWomansBrain · 04/01/2022 22:48

That's revolting for other diners - I'd have complained.
Also hope that there weren't any paedophiles dining there.

@GrendelsGrandma

Like I said, kids train differently. Well done on having champion potty kids. DS did the same as yours, but after few months he's regressed a bit and wets himself fairly regularly. The pandemic doesn't help, we seldom go to cafes etc so they're very new environments and he gets distracted.

I'm not putting him back in nappies. He's ready, just being a bit lazy.

So do you put him on a potty in the middle of the restaurant or take him to the loo?

And many kids regress. Just take them before it gets too late

Assuming that this actually happened, I would have complained immediately to staff, and if nothing was done, I would have taken my complaint further.

SammyScrounge · 05/01/2022 01:19

Disgusting. I'm afraid I wouldnt have stayed there for a meal. God knows whaytbother hygiene breaches there were elsewhere in the eatery.

HappyDays40 · 05/01/2022 01:33

I complained about potties at a soft play cafe it's disgusting even worse in a restaurant. Who the fuck do people think they are?

Catflapkitkat · 05/01/2022 05:59
