Toddlers are so irritating

I remember years ago seeing a meme about how toddlers are the most irritating thing in the world. I feel like this today. Constant cheek from my 3year old dd, used the naughty step this morning and i got ‘you can’t do this to people’ and ‘I’m going to my grans’.
Save me 🤣
Yanbu- yes this is a hard stage
Yabu- no they are lovely, get over it

Ours are 3.5 and 18 months. They're back in nursery today, and we've both taken a half day to have a gentle start back and clear the inboxes, then go for lunch and take down the Christmas decorations.

We're calling it Parent Christmas. Grin

Whenever I tell my 3 y/o off for being naughty he looks at me very concerned, pats me affectionately and asks me if I’m ok 🤷‍♀️

hiredandsqueak · 04/01/2022 15:49

YANBU Dgs 2 and a half is wonderful is short doses I feel for his mother/ my daughter though. Last time he was here to distract him from causing mayhem I asked him to help Gangan find the matching piece to one of his games. I swear he rolled his eyes at me, stuffed the piece in my hand and shrugged " there, that's all you had to do," before continuing to cause mayhem.

This morning my 3 year old told me "Mummy, put clothes on, nobody wants to see that."
She asks "What's that?!!" every few minutes, all day.
She tells me not to sing because "people are trying to sleep"
She likes to dig her toes into my thighs when she sits on my knee.
She is still singing Jingle Bells.
She does however tell me she loves me all the world so I'll let her off.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 04/01/2022 15:59

I love my three year old DD, I really do but....

  • won't sit next to me, has to be on me. Quite annoying when trying to watch TV or have a drink.
  • is as stubborn as a mule - you will not change her mind. She will not compromise.
  • picky eating - is there a speck in this pasta?
  • has to have the big light on in her bedroom at night despite this obviously keeping her awake.
  • clothes battles - so many beautiful unworn things. She only wants the manky stained things.
  • constant pestering for snacks. Refusing anything I offer- she has to 'choose which involves me holding her up to the cupboard whilst she looks at EVERYTHING in there before choosing the first thing I offer.
  • breaks and spills everything.
  • generally doing everything I ask her not to do.

Mine points at the door and says "go home" when she's annoyed with me. When I point out that I am at home, she points at the door and says "go to work then".

Threenagers eh.

She does like to sneak up to me and say "I love you" and kisses me on the cheek too though.

I never had the irritating toddler stuff with my two when young.. I used to love seeing them on the move, and exploring everything around them. The so called naughty step hadn't been invented way back in my two toddlers days..Just a few words of dissaproval needed, when things were a bit amiss at times.

TheGarbageManCan · 04/01/2022 16:20

YANBU… but my 5 year old is far more irritating now than when she was 3 😂😂 I adore her at any age nonetheless!

notthemum · 04/01/2022 16:28

God. Sorry for this but I am finding these a scream. I absolutely love the toddler stage. (Handy as I spent nearly 20 years working with them). I feel I should tell you all that it's a very short phase but I can't. Only comfort I can offer is when they grow up and have their own children you will find it hysterical. Tip though , possibly don't mention this to your grown up DC but I promise it is funny.
Sorry not Sorry. 🤣😂 💐🍷

DS is 3.5 and went back to preschool today. It was a joyous, joyous day. I had three precious hours on my own and it was bliss. Unfortunately he doesn't go in on Wednesdays, and our usual toddler group doesn't start again until next week, so we've got a looooooong day to fill tomorrow.

DD is 7 (and grumpy) and went back to school too, so it was a quiet day. They got back home just after 3:15 and were nice to each other for approx 15mins. Now I'm sitting on the floor between them trying to keep them apart, to stop DS wrecking DD's stuff, and stop her kicking off as soon as he comes within an inch of her. Fun. 45mins until DH finishes work...

@notthemum I’m the last of my siblings to have dc and I can remember finding everything their kids did hilarious the sass, the “but whyyyyy” the tantrums for not putting the right socks on, bringing my sister a “present” from the potty…….boy are my brothers and sisters giving pay back now and I have a sneaky suspicion it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse lol 😅

Tooshytoshine · 04/01/2022 17:04

My three year old spent a day pretending she couldn't see properly, intermittently, selectively and entirely ridiculously because her big brother got glasses.

She has form as I once spent hours getting x-rays as she had a pronounced and persistent limp after a tumble - the Dr diagnosed "a flair for the dramatic.

She is currently thwarted and shouting "leave me alone" outside the bathroom door where I am trying to be left alone

Briarshollow · 04/01/2022 17:11

Toddlers are pricks. There, I said it.

Mimilamore · 04/01/2022 17:14

I have spent this afternoon in adventure play with a 75 yr old and a 3 year old, can't say which one was more challenging....

usethedata · 04/01/2022 17:16

Today's biggest tantrum was that there are other people in the play park and I don't want to share.

Eviebeans · 04/01/2022 17:17

Where ya going?
What ya doing?

Starcaller · 04/01/2022 17:19

They sure have their moments but I've never laughed so much in my life as I have now we have a toddler. The things they say and do are hilarious. DD has us properly laughing multiple times a day with her antics Grin

Grin

I remember when my Ds got glasses and we went to pick them up from the opticians. Dd was a pre schooler and horrendously jealous of him. As we left the opticians, she shut her eyes and held out her arms proclaiming that she couldn't see and needed glasses too. I did take her for an eye test and the optician said her eyes were perfect so she had a tantrum...the optician was Shock at the whole thing!

My 2.5 yo is driving me insaaaaaaneeeee Grin but I love him

Babyblues1221 · 04/01/2022 17:23

Discovered at 11pm last night that my 3 year old's nursery was closed today, so she won't be back until next Monday. I wept real, salty tears.

soughsigh · 04/01/2022 17:26

My threenager is currently busy shouting in the kitchen to try and wake up his 3mo sister. He came through to where she is napping on me in the lounge the check we could hear him.

He can be cute but he is a dickhead 95% of the time.

People that don't have a toddler can start their own thread about how irritating their stage is, stop telling us it's harder. Every post I've seen where people have a toddler and a teenager has said toddler is harder.

CorpusCallosum · 04/01/2022 17:39

Everything risks a tantrum here.

About 3 months ago I ate a piece of DDs cucumber (which she had rejected and shoved across the table) without asking her first. She had a massive meltdown about wanting that piece (which I had eaten) and not any of the others in the bowl.

She brings it up almost daily.... 'you ate my cucumber mummy. I was sad about it' FML the girl can hold a grudge.

My favourite thread of the day Grin

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 04/01/2022 17:57

My 4.5 year old questions everything "but why" my 2.5 year old whines and I get "that's not fair" or "mama, I want you" usually when she's sat RIGHT next to me. I'm knackered. I'm 30 weeks pregnant as well. 4.5 year old goes back to nursery tomorrow. And I'm Nightshift tomorrow so I get to go to bed during the day 👏
