To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

Thinking of you too op. I hope you got some sleep and are feeling a little more comfortable Flowers

NYnewstart · 04/01/2022 11:00

My initial thought was sepsis. Hope you are being treated and are well soon.

Greenmarmalade · 04/01/2022 11:01

OP I wish you all the best and hope you’re now receiving good care.

I despair at the state of the nhs.

watchingthedetectives · 04/01/2022 11:03

Sorry to this it sounds absolutely miserable
It sounds like this is Crohn's disease with a perianal fistula. They need to treat you with antibiotics, get an urgent MRI scan and drain any abscess if there is one.
Usually once this has calmed down you can have biologics ( if you haven't been through them already) You need a gastroenterologist as well as a surgeon involved in your care though

pastypirate · 04/01/2022 11:05

Thinking of this dear lady and what sound like dreadful circumstances. Hoping she's having a snooze finally after she's been made more comfortable.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 04/01/2022 11:08

I really hope you get some answers and respite from the pain @alittlebitembarrassing. Can’t imagine what you’re going through Flowers

SwishSwishBisch · 04/01/2022 11:10

I hope you’re alright OP

thetinsoldier · 04/01/2022 11:14

Op, I'm glad you're in hospital and being treated. Good luck.

Runningwithoutstopping · 04/01/2022 11:18

So glad your getting treatment I have IBD and a flare up is miserable, extremely painful and the complications it causes are potentially life threatening if not treated.
O. P your treatment has been poor and I can't understand why they haven't got you on a gastroenterologist books for at least an annual review. I said it before but I think you have been treated appallingly and when you are up to it I think it should be investigated. Crohns and Colitis UK really are a valuable resource and will give you support and information going forward.
I hope your care improves and I'm glad you are now in hospital xxx

colouringindoors · 04/01/2022 11:26

Really hope you're feeling a bit more comfortable and receiving treatment.

I had a severe anal injury during childbirth and the whole thing, and recovery was so upsetting, I really feel for you. Hope this means you'll be back under a colorectal team and soon have a recovery plan in place.

Oh and you Totally did the right thing calling 999 Flowers

MrsPerfect12 · 04/01/2022 11:47

I hope you're feeling a good bit better today and you've got some plan going forward.

Staryflight445 · 04/01/2022 11:53

Hope you’re getting the help you need op, sounds absolutely horrendous.

StellaGibson118 · 04/01/2022 11:54

I hope you feel better soon OP.

My friend's husband got fobbed off with an infected perianal fistula earlier this year; they told him it was piles. He waited it out at home because like the OP he didn't want to bother anyone but in the end he couldn't cope. His wife took him to A&E where he collapsed in pain and had to have emergency surgery twice (discovered a second one as the first one was healing) with a very long recovery process.

If you've never had anything go wrong there (I have) it's hard to express how painful it is.

SocialConnection · 04/01/2022 12:06

How are you feeling today?

INeedNewShoes · 04/01/2022 12:22

I hope things are being brought under control OP.

I have IBD and am appalled that you were discharged following your surgery with no team to go back to for care.

Hopefully you will have been seen by the gastro team this morning. I'd try to make sure you have been added to their list and that you have contact details of their IBD nurse(s). This will give you a direct contact if things flare up in future.

Nocutenamesleft · 04/01/2022 12:28

I don’t think I’ve ever said this

But please do go to A and E again. It’s a rinse and repeat type of thing

I had stomach pain for years. Couldn’t walk standing straight. I was in AGONY. I went to my local A and E and they told me it was my gall bladder.

Friend recommended I go to ANOTHER a and e and they asked me if I’d been scanned. I hadn’t. They couldn’t believe I’d been in pain for over 2 years and hadn’t even been looked at. I’d tried. Just no one would look!! That was the problem.

Anyway. It turned out I had massive problems with my liver. Kidneys and bile ducts. The dr couldn’t believe I’d just been left.

Severe Pain is a reason to go to A and E. so don’t let them make you think otherwise.

I recently had a one sided facial droop. I’ve had a stroke. So obviously was checked for a stroke at a and e. But once they realise I wasn’t. They sent me home. No referral. Nothing. Turned out I had lung tumour. Which can cause one sided facial droop.

Grandville · 04/01/2022 12:32

Good luck OP Flowers

CustardySergeant · 04/01/2022 12:33

Nocutenamesleft The OP's husband drove her to hospital in the early hours of this morning.

cakegoblin · 04/01/2022 12:39

Thinking of you OP, hope you’re being well looked after.

KaptainKaveman · 04/01/2022 12:58

Good luck OP. Sounds awful. Hope you get some decent treatment and some answers.

C8H10N4O2 · 04/01/2022 13:01

@alittlebitembarrassing

I got straight through and am being looked after with a cannula waiting on next steps. I was only waiting in the waiting area for five minutes. Bloods been taken too. Thanks everyone, and for those who are lecturing me, I don’t think ambulances are taxis. But as someone who has had a perforated bowel before and feels the worst I have in ages, I thought it was the right call. My partner ended up giving me a lift because we had no other option.
You are not treating ambulances as taxis if you have potential sepsis and perforated bowel and no other way to get to hospital.

its wholly inappropriate that someone feeling adverse affects of painkillers had to drive you.

Oddbobbyboo · 04/01/2022 13:05

Thinking of you xxx

A & E NOW !!

inheritancetrack · 04/01/2022 13:13

ask your gp for a direct referral to GI and take the letter to A&E they don't need to see you but the GI should assess on the strength of the referral.
