New year new ideas please!

Ours had got to the stage of something like this...:

  1. burger and chips
  2. pork loin steaks veg and potatoes
  3. sausage, mash, peas and gravy
  4. curry and rice
  5. pizza and chips
  6. take away or eat out
  7. roast

I need to mix it up, eat less meat and more veg.

Would you mind sharing what an average week of dinners may look like to you?

OP posts:

  1. tuna and veg pasta bake with garlic bread
  2. shepherds pie with veg
  3. Fajitas with chicken and peppers (mild because youngest doesn't like spice) usually with Mexican rice
  4. Beef stew either with dumplings or in a Yorkshire pudding
  5. takeaway/eat out somewhere like kfc or Mcds)
  6. gammon steaks and cauliflower cheese
  7. either sausages or fish with chips and peas

It gets shuffled and some weeks we have lasagna or spag bol or a roast dinner in place of some of the meals here.

ChoccySprinkles · 02/01/2022 18:55

Roast dinner on a Sunday. Chicken, gammon, beef etc.

Something with the leftovers - gammon in a carbonara, chicken in a curry, beef in a stir fry.

Fish meal - fish pie, sea bass and veg

Pasta meal - spag bol or a white pasta sauce

Casserole in the slow cooker

Home made pizza and wedges

Something with wraps - tacos, fajitas, quesadillas

Varies, but a typical week might be:

  1. One pan Thai green salmon curry (BBC recipe) and noodles
  2. Pasta with a homemade vegetable sauce
  3. Chicken fajitas
  4. Cottage pie
  5. white fish with stir fried veg and rice or noodles
  6. jacket potatoes and toppings
  7. Another veggie dish of some kind eg pasta or stir fry

Also in a bit of a rut so trying to change it up a bit this year!

Brigante9 · 02/01/2022 18:57

Toad in the hole, gravy, veg
Chilli or bolognaise with rice
Chicken breast with veg
Salmon fillets and veg

Hot dogs in buns
Roast
Cold meat and chips

BookFiend4Life · 02/01/2022 18:59

I think the below is what we're going to do this week

1)tofu red curry with basmati rice, would add Naan if I had some but don't!
2)Use up veggie soup (onions, carrots, potatoes, celery, spinach, cannelini beans, barley, mushrooms, herbs) bread
3)tortellini with clams, green salad
4)takeout (wings, tots and salad probably)
5)mustard salmon, roasted broccoli, cheesy rice or boxed Mac and cheese
6)dinner out for parents, probably a cheese omelet with spinach for baby
7)coq au vin (crockpot) with pasta

In a normal week I wouldn't do so much "one off" cooking and would make some stuff to spread over two nights but I'm trying to use up some pantry and freezer items

ItsFuckingJuneDadQuickHide · 02/01/2022 19:00

Hot pot with veg on the side
Casserole with dumplings and bread and butter
Cauliflower cheese with haddock and chives
Salmon with pesto and green beens
Veg sir fry
Curry with spinach added to sauce
Burgers/ wraps and chips with salad
Lasagne either meat, chicken and ricotta or veggie
Cowboy stew, just different lentils with smoked paprika and tinned tomatoes

Lottapianos · 02/01/2022 19:00

Sample winter weekly menu (2 adults, no kids):

  • homemade dahl
  • roasted veg gratin
  • prawn and noodle stir fry with green veg
  • shop bought fish cakes and salad
  • homemade veggie lasagne
  • homemade fish pie
  • go out for dinner / takeaway once a week
AtLeastThreeDrinks · 02/01/2022 19:01

I love these food threads! We’re a pescetarian household, next week is shaping up like:

  1. Burnt aubergine chilli (veggie)
  2. Jamie’s 5-ingredient fish curry
  3. Jacket spuds, beans and salad
  4. Sea bass with salsa verde and roast potatoes / some kind of fish traybake
  5. Kimchi fried rice with lots of veg and a fried egg
  6. Fish tacos, usually with pickled veg in / on the side
  7. Usually get a takeaway once a week!

If you want easy swaps could you turn the burgers into homemade bean burgers (these are really good sallysbakingaddiction.com/best-black-bean-burgers/) and add some veggie sides to the curry?

notanothertakeaway · 02/01/2022 19:01

I've never had a meal plan as such, but each week, we try to have -

Chicken
Other meat
Fish
Rice dish
Pasta
Vegetarian
Other / one of the above

This gives a bit of variety

AdoraBell · 02/01/2022 19:01

Today- leftovers, beef and bacon with rice, leeks, tomatoes and peas.

I really need some inspiration.

It’s great to try new food, but if you are short of ideas you could add more veg just by changing ratios - the ideal plate being a quarter carb, a quarter protein and half veg?
  1. burger and chips - fewer chips, lettuce and tomato in burger, healthy coleslaw on the side
  2. pork loin steaks veg and potatoes - less potato and two types of veg
  3. sausage, mash, peas and gravy - less mash and two types of veg eg peas and spring greens
  4. curry and rice - vegetarian curry eg paneer
  5. pizza and chips - pizza with a substantial side salad
  6. take away or eat out
  7. roast
Popskipiekin · 02/01/2022 19:02
  1. Jamie Oliver sweet potato curry
  2. Mince meal - meatballs / spag bol / chilli
  3. Baked fish - salmon teriyaki or with Delia smith pesto crust
  4. Baked risotto - bbc receipt, super easy and adaptable
Or kedgeree
  1. Pasta “carbonara” - not really, but frizzled chorizo, spag, an egg and peas plus Parmesan
  2. Fajitas or tacos
  3. Fuck it let’s have breakfast for dinner (kids absolutely love this one)
thekaratekid · 02/01/2022 19:03

Pretty similar here. An average week looks like:

  1. Chilli con carne or spag bol
  2. Pizza + side salad (half a medium frozen pizza per adult)
  3. Quiche + side salad or tortellini pasta in sauce
  4. Sausage (2 x naice sausages), mash and peas
  5. Chicken kiev, chips and peas
  6. Yellow sticker pot luck Grin
  7. Sunday roast (usually chicken) or something like lasagne

Yellow sticker pot luck is also substituted for a takeaway more often than not. Blush We used to do a veg stir fry and also a homemade curry, but I got bored with them. I will probably cycle back round to them again. DP could eat literally the same 3 meals every day for the rest of his life Hmm....I get bored much more easily, so have to give things a rest before reintroducing.

TheUndoingProject · 02/01/2022 19:04

Roast veg and cous cous
Mushroom bourguignon with polenta
Fajitas (veggie with beans but might do chicken on the side for DH)
Chilli (beef or veggie depending on what else we’ve eaten that week)
Paneer curry
Veggie tagine
Risotto with leeks and bacon

GiltEdges · 02/01/2022 19:05

We're doing Green Chef so I can't take credit for all of the recipes, but this week looks like:

Mon: Gremolata baked feta with courgetti
Tue: Blue cheese pork steaks with green beans
Wed: Shredded chicken and sesame soup
Thu: Turkey and bacon orzo pasta
Fri: Steak with chimichurri sauce and broccoli
Sat: Chicken burgers and wedges
Sun: Fish tikka masala and whole grain rice

HeyMicky · 02/01/2022 19:06

Mon - soup
Tues - Omelettes and salad
Wed - baked potatoes/sweet potatoes
Thurs - prawn noodle stir fry
Fri - courgette and lemon pasta
Saturday - steak, spinach and chips
Sunday - chicken tray bake

Mon- thurs are pretty standard for us due to after school activities + they're cheap and I can make them veggie to reduce our meat consumption.

Friday and Saturday we eat separately from the DDs so we can eat more interesting meals, more spice, veg they wouldn't eat.

Sunday is always a family friendly meal which will give some leftovers for lunches the following week

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 02/01/2022 19:07

I’ve just done my plan for the week as it runs Monday to Monday

Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup with soda bread.

Salmon and sweet corn Risotto with a tomato and mozzarella salad.

Spaghetti Puttanesca with a Caesar salad

Courgette Lasagne and green salad

Baked Potatoes (choice of fillings, couple of side salads)

Beef (or halloumi) Pad Thai

Roast Lamb, roast potatoes, Cauliflower Cheese, Carrots, Peas, mashed Swede.
Apple Crumble and Custard

maya71 · 02/01/2022 19:09

Probably something like:
Pasta, pesto & bacon
Veg or chicken stir-fry
Jacket potato with tuna & broccoli or cheese & coleslaw
Salmon fish cakes & chips & veg
Curry or pizza
Spaghetti bolognaise or chilli
Stew done in slow cooker or Shepherds Pie or roast

Boiledbeetle · 02/01/2022 19:09

Tuesday: breakfast chicken dippers lunch chicken dippers tea chicken dippers
Wednesday: breakfast chicken dippers lunch chicken dippers tea chicken dippers

Sunday: breakfast chicken dippers lunch chicken dippers tea chicken dippers

I don't think I can be of much assistance other than to say that compared to mine yours it's positively awash with choice!

bonfireheart · 02/01/2022 19:09
  1. Chicken tagliatelle
  2. Chicken fajitas
  3. Cod with lots of veg and Asian spices
  4. Fish pie with herby cauliflower mash
  5. Roast chicken dinner with veg
  6. Tandoori fish with veg
  7. Chickpea and veg curry/soup/stew
SofiaMichElf · 02/01/2022 19:09

My rough plan for this week:

  1. Beef casserole (make enough for 2 meals)
  2. Chicken with cous cous and salad
  3. Veg stir fry
  4. Beef casserole (with freshly cooked veg.)
  5. Fish pie
  6. Chicken and veg. skewers with rice
  7. Home made chilli

We very rarely have takeaways and don't really eat chips/fried food so it's not too much of a chore to eat relatively well.

georgarina · 02/01/2022 19:09

this is what we had last week (racking my brains)...I am a single parent and it's hectic but I always have a carb, a protein and a vegetable

monday - marinated tofu with instant rice and broccoli
tuesday - leon takeout (chicken aioli and vegetables/fish finger kids boxes)
wednesday - poached salmon with instant rice, spinach salad, and aloo gobi (random but needed to be eaten!)
thursday - tuna pasta with cucumber on the side
friday - poached egg on toast with carrot and cucumber

This week (mainly pescatarian diet for 2 adults, plus a 4 year old and 1 year old every day except Tues-Thurs):
Sat: vegetarian spag bol with brocolli or peas

Mon: salmon, baby potatoes and broccoli
Tues: japenese ramen with mushrooms and Pak choi
Wed: omelette
Thurs: chicken / Quorn chicken escalopes, baby potatoes and green veg
Fri: veggie lentil lasagna (frozen but homemade) with green veg

guestusername · 02/01/2022 19:12

Mine this week is

Chicken bites and salad
Spag bol
Fish and salad
Chicken fried rice
Small pizza and salad
