To just want to go for a walk

Fedupmummy88 · 02/01/2022 10:01

Whole household tested positive for covid Christmas Day (Dh, me, dc1 7 years old and dc2 8 months old) luckily we seem to have had relatively minor symptoms (cold and flu like for a few days for me, same for DH for a bit longer, coughs in the children) and now thankfully all feel fine

Dh is now testing negative on day 6 and 7 do is back to work today as per the government guidance. The children are both negative as well.

I however am still testing positive despite having less symptoms than DH and feeling fine since about Tuesday.

Children aren't sleeping well especially the 8 month old and I definitely think it's the lack of fresh air. With school runs they are used to being out on a walk at least an hour a day and now they have barely left the house.

I know it is but would it be totally unreasonable to go out for a short walk through the woods at the back of the house? We live in quite a remote area and rarely see anyone in the woods and I just want to get out. Have no interest in going anywhere else (luckily we had a food shop delivered Thursday and have had family drop anything we need at the door.)

Also feeling sorry for the eldest DC as this is the second Christmas holidays we've been isolating as DH got Covid at the same time last year! It's also my last couple of weeks off before returning to work after maternity leave next week.

I probably won't go out as I'll feel too guilty but just wondered if anyone would in these circumstances?

@Normski67

Yesterday I saw 2 test and trace people in hi viz vests, cycling around where I live. First thought was they are going looking for all these covid + people breaking self isolation and walking in the local beauty spot! So just maybe they are checking on people?!?
But think about it How on earth would they know! Not like tattooed on forehead when you get covid

And how did you know not just cyclists?!

Normski67 · 04/01/2022 07:24

@Excitedforthefuture because they had hi viz vests with test and trace in large letters on the back! Not wearing standard cycling gear either.
No idea what a pair of them would be doing but as far fetched as it seems I guess they could go and knock on the door of someone to see if they’re in?

Excitedforthefuture · 04/01/2022 07:41

They could

But if you have covid
You could argue that you were tucked up in bed too I’ll to answer the door!

Excitedforthefuture · 04/01/2022 07:44

Wow they were wearing hi vis with “test and trace” emblazoned over it?

Never heard of this or anyone seeing them
Perhaps they’re taking the Piss and had them made up themselves!

The thought of the NHS spending money on hi vis vests with “test and trace” emblazoned on them makes me think wtf?!

Quite, and me neither. I was WTF too. Anyway, no idea what they’d be doing but there you go.
Skinnyfrappewithmilk · 04/01/2022 08:21

Of course, people with dogs must still be taking them for a walk when isolating. Even those living in less rural areas, or else it would be cruelty.
I’m also of the opinion that going for a walk / getting fresh air is beneficial when recovering from an illness. Keeping the blood pumping and lungs working properly.

izzy2076 · 04/01/2022 08:30

I've just been for a 5.30 am walk. I'm day 5 and was climbing the walls yesterday. Did 10,000 steps this morning, didn't see a soul and feel a hundred times better.

Wow, so that's what they spent the £38 billion on, on hi-viz vests with track & trace written on them? Bargain! Smile

Yep, it did us the world of good to get some fresh air. With 3 very large dogs the idea that I wouldn't be allowed to exercise them for 10 days is ludicrous. Pretty much like the majority of the 'rules' actually.

That's exactly what I would do, if I were to get covid. I would have to get out, at some stage. Early morning walk, with nobody about.

Hope you feel better soon.

What powers would they have, to do something like that? Genuine question.

Also, someone as has been said, you could simply be too unwell to answer the door.

Good for you!

I am awaiting the result of a PCR, will be the same as you.

Sensible decisions.

They might be self-appointed busybodies. Either way, they can still be told to fuck off if they come up to you and demand ID or whatever - they have no legal authority to harass random people in a public place.

It's always been fairly important to know when and where and why anyone, even a police officer, can stop you and make you account for yourself, and when you can refuse to comply - if you are outwardly respectable-looking it's a really good thing to be civil but obstructive to petty little shits who are overstepping their bounds.

(Yes, door staff can refuse you entry to a building if you do not comply with the regulations of that building, but that's a different matter).

If you have covid surely you shouldn't be answering the door anyway? And surely even the government wouldn't think it a good idea to employ people to visit or approach people with covid, in person, protected only by a high viz vest?Grin

@5128gap when we had covid the council sent 2 representatives to my house to ask if we were ok, did we need help and how were we finding our quarantine. They knocked on the door then ran halfway down the path. I opened the door, gobsmacked that the council was sending neighbourhood wardens to houses where they know people have tested positive, to ask them how they are! Pretty much said just that to the guy who by this time was at the gate and calling up the path asking if we'd needed to go to hospital etc, had we secured an online shop blah blah blah. I told them to go away and perhaps speak to someone in charge about how stupid the whole concept of checking in on positive covid people is!!

Wreath21 · 04/01/2022 11:35

It's not wholly unreasonable to offer help to people with covid or in quarantine BUT it should be a matter of giving a phone number or email address so people who need it can ask for it.
It's a bit harsh to send what are likely to be unpaid volunteers or very low paid council staff to infectious people... though of course such a service might well be overstaffed by bullies and busybodies who want to make sure everyone else is both obedient and grateful.

Haven't they heard of phones? Beyond ridiculous.
KurtWilde · 04/01/2022 12:09

To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. But then we had a lot of council warden activity throughout lockdowns, knocking on doors not knowing if the person inside was positive or not and offering tests, that kind of thing. But sending them to the house of known positive cases was beyond unfair.

Bertiebiscuit · 04/01/2022 12:56

Yes, everyone needs fresh air, it's not really possible to get infected out of doors if you done get within 2 metres of anyone else, so a lone walk somewhere quiet or a bike ride is a very safe positive thing to do

AnyBenny · 04/01/2022 13:42

I received a call from the local police on day 4 to say that I’d been reported as breaking isolation Shock. I’d driven to the PCR test, and taken the dogs for a walk around our own farm and otherwise had gone nowhere and seen no one. They wouldn’t tell me what I was being reported for but I assume the walk (I saw some people from at least a field away). They said it was just a friendly advisory call, but it still seemed a colossal waste of police time (when they don’t have resources to follow up for eg the many tool thefts that take place in this rural area…).

MissMaple82 · 04/01/2022 13:56

Go for a walk. I'm positive now and went for a walk yesterday, didn't see anybody or talk to anybody. Fuck sake it's a bad do if you can go out and get some fresh air when feeling a bit rough.

Hemingwayscatz · 04/01/2022 14:01

I went for a walk twice when I had covid last month. Similar situation to you, live rurally and I walked in the woods behind our house with my two toddlers who also had covid. We didn’t see a single soul either time and I knew we wouldn’t tbh, I chose a quiet time of day to walk as well. I couldn’t stand being trapped in the house anymore, I was crawling up the walls. I have depression so staying inside too long is a major trigger of mine. Can’t see how it harms anyone at all when it’s highly unlikely you’d ever see anyone and even if you did, you’re outdoors and able to steer clear.

Chely · 04/01/2022 14:06

Eventually the isolation thing will go, the virus will remain. Going for a walk where there are few to no people about is something I would do.

VikingOnTheFridge · 04/01/2022 17:32

@DollyD65

I'm not saying do or don't go for a walk. But what if every covid positive person went for a walk? I find it weird that we can't cope with staying around our homes for a couple of weeks, hardly onerous is it?
Do you not meet many humans?
Daisychainsandglitter · 06/01/2022 19:04

I have covid and went for a lovely long walk yesterday. It made me feel much better. I chose a really quiet time of day.
I will try my best to go for another really early tomorrow morning. I am on day 6 and I'm finding it really difficult now especially as I feel absolutely fine.
